(Jackie) Johnson, 77, longtime employee of the city schools here, died Friday in a local hospital. Born in Mapleton, Kan., July 29, 1875, Johnson came west in April 1890. He married Sylvia Vinson March 4, 1897, in Walla Walla, moving here in September of 1907. He started work for the public schools in January of 1908 and was retired in July, 1949, after 41 years of service to the schools and the young people of the community. He was well loved by the school children here. Johnson had been in failing health only the last two months and had been ill only the last few days. He is survived by his wife at the home; three sons and five daughters -- Clarence and Lloyd of Seattle and Cloyce of Dayton; Mrs. Herman (Nellie) Johnson and Mrs. Clarence (Lena) Laughery, Omak; Mrs. Milton (Zelda) Johnson, Everett; Mrs. Henry (Viola) Breiner, Dayton; and Mrs. George (Loris) Wales, Walla Walla; 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Mary Buzzell, Conrad, Mont., and several nieces and nephews.
