I was looking for both families, particulary Luther Goble's group. I now believe they were already in Clark Co. by then.
Mary Meeker recommended this book about Prescott by Linda Flathers Parsley about the town of Prescott. I got it through InterLibrary Loan, and it's a real winner. Didn't recognize the one Waggoner, and not much info on the McGrews. But a lot on my Fender family. Took it to the family reunion today and my Fender second cousins spent most of the time pouring over it! I highly recommend it for anyone who has family from there from 1850-2000. My question has to do with the availability of the book for sale, now that the author has died. Mary, do you know if the publisher still has copies? Does anybody else on the list know? This is a 400 page book, full of pictures, with a great index. It should be on the bookshelf of everybody interested in the northern part of Walla Walla Co. Thanks, Doris Waggoner Seattle

The name of the Secretary of State is Sam Reed. You can find some information on his web site. I'd try these before I'd bother writing. The Institutional Records contain a listing of Inmates serving time at Seatco Prison from 1877-1888 and Walla Walla State Penitentiary from 1887-1914. http://www.secstate.wa.gov/history/search.aspx or the digital records: http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/ Happy hunting, Carol

A quick way to read the microfiche is just skim from obit to obit. You can interlibrary loan microfiche, just ask your reference librarian at your local library how that is done. Washington State has some new enhanced library features online, have a discussion with your librarian and as about Heritage Quest or Pro Quest service which is free census access only at your library. Use an internet search telephone directory to find names of businesses in the yellow pages, i.e., funeral homes. They keep records forever, respond quickly and give maps and who paid for the funeral etc. quite interesting. Write a letter with a SASE enclosed.

Mine died in Chicago in 1903, and is buried in Denver, Colorado. Someone in my early research history has surely written some very incorrect items--such as this one about "my" Isaac N. Reed owning a lot of land in Walla Walla. Would doubt that he was ever there. He married a Cynhia Hungate and she lived until 1930, many years after Isaac died, and she died in California and was later buried in Denver along with Isaac and one of their sons, Calvin Edgar Reed.
