    1. [WauShaOcon-L] ADVICE NEEDED RE: RESEARCH TRIP
    2. Joan Levin
    3. Hello, all! I enjoy reading your contributions to the list - a little sparse now that summer is here, but that's to be expected! I must have deleted by accident the letter about Oconto cemetery upkeep - I'm interested in that for the future. Had only a little time in Evergreen Cemetery, Oconto and the monuments needed care. Another thought on that: I know Mr. Peter Stark holds the cemetery records - would the person willing to do monument care be willing to do lookups in the cemetery records? Would the person involved please contact me? Maybe I could speak to her while I'm in the area, BECAUSE... Next week I am leaving Maine for a Wittkopf family reunion in Oshkosh, WI, have a Werth family member coming too!- am really excited, haven't seen my dear family for some years, and there are a few families I have met only on the phone or e-mail coming! (We have been corresponding, having met through Genealogy postings.)Then I will be embarking on a solo research trip in the Counties of: Oconto, Brown, Door, Kewaunee and Manitowoc. Now I need advice---please those of you living in these areas advise me as to: (1) Lodging: I have relatives I am staying with here and there, but need to know of places that are low to medium cost within driving distance of the towns/villages of Oconto/Oconto Falls, Brussels/Rosiere, Algoma/Casco/Sturgeon Bay, mentioned. I don't mind staying in out-of-way places - somewhere I can sit at the end of a day and go over my notes and record stuff, a place that's safe to take my daily walk, that has a restaurant or deli nearby...preferably off the highway. Just need a room with a shower. For Door Co., private house near Brussels would be ideal - also in Kewaunee Co., Algoma or nearby. Two Rivers? (2) Use of Time and Resources: I need to know how to divide my time best between libraries and Court Houses. Especially since I know that the UW Green Bay Cofrin Library has many records available. Is it better to check in there first? I am after Declaration of Intent records, a few Probate records, (Brown and Manitowoc Cos) a marriage and divorce(could be Brown, Kewaunee or Door)-and obits and newspaper articles from all counties. Which Library has more genealogy records - Oconto or Oconto Falls? (3) Can you give me an idea of the cost of records? I know the death certificates have been $7.00 - how about Declaration of Intent and Probate? If you are doing the lookups is it the copy machine charge only? Please all you "veterans" - give me your tips! I'm a first time research-tripper, and really excited about all the possibilities! I'm also taking my back-pack- want to walk a few trails my ancestors used to tred along some river banks - hope they are still accessible! Am meeting a few researcher friends met on Genweb along the way - doesn't it sound great???? I'll be waiting anxiously for your advice! JoAnn Researching: Wittkopf, Werth, Ellman(n), Lemke, Pierre, Novak, Wizner, Wiesner, Wicpalek, Fencl, Homulka...
