Hi everybody! OK, my dad's research trip to the Green Bay Archdiocese Archives resulted in some cool stuff. On this page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mawilcox/asliengm.htm is a picture of my gggrandfather's gravemarker, in the Flintville cemetery. That gave us his date of death, which we didn't have. We found more about our only (so far) Irish line, GARRIGAN. My ggrandmother was Ann PORTER. Her parents were Milo PORTER & Catherine GARRIGAN. Milo was born in Jefferson Co., NY, his parents were Asa PORTER (b.1783 in MA) and Tabitha ? (b.1785 in NY). For awhile the parents lived in Allegheny Co., NY. Catherine's parents were Thomas GARRIGAN and Mary SIMON. Catherine was born in West Maid (Westmeath?), Ireland and immigrated with her parents when she was 3 years old. The PORTERs (elder & younger) came to Juneau Co. (Lemonweir Twp) and were there until after 1873. Milo served in the Civil War as a Pvt. in Capt. Wm. Dawes Company C of the l6th Regiment of Wisconsin Volunteers at Mauston, Juneau Co. on Oct. 3, 1861. He was wounded at Shiloh, and never returned to his original family. Don't know if he got a divorce, but a couple years later (1864), he married an Orilla Francisca MARTIN in LaCrosse, WI and had (claimed to have) at least 3 other sons by her. That PORTER line looks like it might give me a colonial line! That's a first for my direct bloodlines -- most of my people arrived here sometime in the mid-1800's. It's also my only CW line! (so far) One of Catherine & Milo's children, Susan, married H.D. WHITCOMB, and lived in Oconto Co., all her life. Any WHITCOMB researchers out there? Looks like we're cousins! And did you see the Bulls game tonight? Yay Bulls! Happy Hunting! DOTY - - MANN -- FRANK PLEASE HELP - I am one generation from putting it all together. I am looking for information (siblings, etc) for CHARLES EUGENE DOTY, born June 28, 1875, Clintonville, Waupaca Co., WI. Charles married MOLLY A. FRANK, born Feb. 1, 1875. From Charles' death certificate, I know that his father was EUGENE DOTY and his mother was EMMA MANN. I know nothing about EUGENE DOTY. The 1860 Federal census for Matteson, Shawano Co., WI lists a John Doty (b. 1827, NY); Jane (b. 1827, NY); Eugene, (b. 1856, Mi); John (b. Aug. 1859, WI). John is listed as a day laborer. There is the possibility that this is the connection but I know nothing more. Any information would be greatly appreciated. To the party who wanted to know the history of the song "Down where the Würzburger flows": According to Lüchow's German Cookbook, Doubleday & Co. 1959, the song was written by Harry von Tilzer in 1902 to honor August Lüchow and his New York City restaurant.
Sorry for having to send this information to the whole group but my reply to you was bounced back indicating that it could not find you "User Unknown". Are you sure the struve@odyssey.net is the correct email address? Thanks for your info. Will keep you in mind and also add your line as another branch.Am adding you as branch 28. Please send me any info that you have on this Krause line and I will add it to my Krause database. Found a Milton Krause, b Dec 15 1920, d Apr 1987, WI, zip code 54304. Is this your Milton? Also found a Julius, b Mar 22, 1887, d Jul 1978, WI, zip code 53227. Is this the zip code for Milwaukee? Would suggest that you look in either the State or Federal Census for 1900, 1910, and 1920 for the area in WI where they lived. That should give you the names of the other children. The State Census for 1895, 1885 may give further indication of the parents of Julius. I found a Julius Krause in the 1860 Census for Jackson, Washington Co., WI. page 299 is the reference. This may give further information. Hi: Is there anyone living in Oconto County who could do a 1920 census lookup for me? It`s for my grandfather Joseph Czekaj who farmed outside of Lena from 1902 until he died in 1922. An alternate spelling is Checki. His wife`s name was Julia and his fathers name was Walter. The Township is Lena. Would really appreciate the help. Thank you, Roy Czekay rczekay@aol.com
Hi everybody! My dad & brother were up in GB, Suamico, Abrams, & Little Suamico last week, trying to further the cause. "Paydirt" was the word my dad used! Thank you Susan & Rita for suggesting the Archdiocesean Archives in GB. A treasure trove! My father is still exclaiming about their helpfulness, kindness, etc. And he's not an easy man to impress. BTW, Sister Ella's assistant has her own genealogy service, and that e-mail address is KrisBeisserOlson@prodigy.net. (A little shameless plug for someone who was *extremely* helpful to my dad.) Anyway, here's the new stuff we've got: My Ggrandfather Joseph TOUCHETTE was born 2/25/1850 in Montreal, Can. He moved to GB at the age of 12 with his parents (as yet unnamed). He married Ann PORTER bef. 1873 in DePere, Brown Co., WI. Joseph died in 1930 at his daughter's house in Gladstone, MI. Ann PORTER's parents were Milo PORTER & Catherine GARRIGAN. Milo b.1827-28 in Jefferson Co., NY. Catherine b.1831, West Maid (Westmeath?), Ireland, imm. 1834 to NYS. Milo & Catherine were m. 1851 in Jefferson Co., NY. 7 Children, names of 4: * Susan, b. bef.1853 in Jefferson Co., NY, m. W.D. WHITCOMB. (My dad & bro. met a man who is a PORTER/WHITCOMB researcher. If that man is on this list, feel free to e-mail me. That was my dad sitting at your kitchen table the other night!) * Ann, b.1854, Juneau Co., NY. Grew up in DePere, Brown Co., WI. * Frank, b.1855, m. early 1895 to an Irish lass. In 1895, living in Little Suamico. * George, b.1856, by 1895 head of a household totalling 12 & living in City of Oconto. Milo PORTER's parents: Asa PORTER, b.1873, MA, and Tabitha ___, b.abt.1875, NY. They migrated to WI in 1853 with Milo & Catherine. Names of known children: *Adah, b.1825 *Milo, b.1827-28. Served in 16th WI Vol. Inf., Co.C, wounded @ Shiloh, invalided out 8/1862. Did not return home to Catherine. (uh-oh!) *? Horatio ? b.1820 Catherine GARRIGAN's parents: Thomas GARRIGAN, b.?, Ireland & Mary SIMON, b.?, Ireland. Gilbert ASHLEY/ASELIN (immigrant ancestor), d.4/4/1895 & is buried in Flintville cemetery. There is an over 6 ft. monument marking the gravesite, inscription is Gilbert ASLIEN. (another spelling!) Other family members at Flintville, Brookside, & Ft. Howard cemeteries. My dad's got more, but he's organizing it before transmitting. Includes Ann PORTER TOUCHETTE's obit! 2 new generations on 2 lines in one swoop! I'm so excited! PORTERs from Massachusetts, who'd've thought it? Now, any cousins out there? ;-) Happy Hunting!
