    1. [WauShaOcon-L] Oconto Court House
    2. Gloria Olson
    3. Kathy, I looked in the Hall book for Oconto County. The court house burned Sept. 1907. It states the fire started in the tower and roof, and destroyed the upper part of the building. It mentions nothing about the transferring of records. This maybe why we have been unable to locate a will or probate for my gg grandfather. Thank you for information. I will look in Shawno and Marinette. Gloria

    3. Hi, everyone. Thank you for all the information on county records. I was aware UW-GB had the records for the period when all of northeastern Wisconsin was a part of Brown County. Today we must file the records in the county of record. Was talking with a woman, who gives lecture on genealogy, about difficulty locating a death certificate for Milwaukee, 1851, and was told to look in Brown County. Her statement was that the eastern half of the state, in early state developement was all Brown County. Has anyone encountered and early Milwaukee records in Brown County. I have never checked this out Gloria

    2. Does anyone have information on a fur trader from the early 1800's with the surname RUSE? He was in Green Bay in 1800 and was later in the Oconto and Shawano County area. Any genealogy or history information would be appreciated. Thank you, Rita

    1. [WauShaOcon-L] Oconto County-Register of Deeds
    2. Gloria Olson
    3. Hello, I was looking through old family records and found a satisfaction of mortgage filed in Green Bay, Brown County in 1869. Since Oconto was a county prior to that date, the property is in Oconto County, why would the satisfaction of mortgagee be filed in Brown County. Purchases of additional land in 1885 were filed in Oconto County. I thought after the county was officially formed all records would be in that county. This may explain why it is difficult to find some of these old records. I am trying to locate the original purchase date. Maybe I should be looking in Brown County. I know it was purchased in either 1867 or 1868. The satisfaction is for the original purchase. Gloria

    1. [WauShaOcon-L] Ogdensburg/St. Lawrence Lookup
    2. Tory
    3. I obtained a book that was compiled about the history of Ogdensburg/St. Lawrence in Waupaca County. It talks about quite a few families in the area and lists many names of the veterans that were from Ogdensburg/St. Lawrence/ Iola/ Scandanavia/Big Falls. Some of the families that are mentioned are Ogden, Murray, Borowski, Dain, Johnson, Larson, Rasmussen, and Boutwell. It also has a few platt maps. The earlies being in 1874 and going up to 1989. If anyone would like me to look for a specific family or person let me know and I will see what I can do. Tory Suehs

    1. [WauShaOcon-L] Shawano Lookup
    2. I am looking for info on Floyd Helvectia Berzill (may have been spelled Baziel, Bozille, Brazil) born July 16, 1894. I think he may have been in WWI. I have a picture of him in uniform with his brother Birl. Also info on Birl Olondo Berzill (may have been spelled different ways also). Birl was born July 14, 1897 and died June 1978. If you could find any info about war service or descendents, I would really appreciate it. They lived in Waupaca and Shawano counties. I live in California and it is hard to do research from here. Thanks so much, I will send sunshine your way. Terri

    3. Lyn, Try the GEN-FR-L list. This is a mailing list for people researching French & French-Canadian families. With the information you've got, I wouldn't doubt that you'll get Jean-Baptiste's complete lineage back to France. French-Canadian record-keeping was done thru the Church, and most of the records have been published, in one form or another. The list is medium-high traffic, so get ready to use your 'delete' key. About 1/2 of the messages are in French. BTW, that's Montmagny, Quebec. ;-) GEN-FR-L is a Rootsweb list, so send an e-mail to GEN-FR-L-request@rootsweb.com with NO subject line and only the word subscribe in the body of the message. Do NOT sign it, delete any signature files you use, v-cards, etc. Hit the Send key. You should get a Welcome message in 24 hrs. Hope this helps! Happy Hunting!
