St. Mary's Catholic Church is in Leopolis. Some of my relatives had their obits in the Shawano Evening Leader. Terri
Hi, I have an obit of my greatgrandfather and wondered if anyone knew what newspaper it was printed in on what date, where the church was, and any other info. It would be greatly appreciated. And are there any Martineaus, Kessens or Brewers out there? The date my family has for JB's death is Oct. 21, 1927. John B. La Berge Woodsman Passes On John La Berge passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Orville Brewer in this village, Saturday October 22, following an illness of two months duration. He was 69 years, 11 months, and 23 days of age at the tme of his death. John Baptist La Berge was born at Quebec, Canada, October 27, 1858. He came to the United States in 1876, locating first at Muskegan, Michigan. On June 7, 1883 he married Christine Allie at Oconto, Wis. The following children were born to them: Maud, Mrs. Orville Brewer, Marion; Flora, Mrs. John Kessen, Gresham; Lola, Mrs. Joe Martineau, Kimberly; Geo. LaBerge, deceased; William, Central Point, Oregon; Rudolph, Gresham' Adelaide, Marion; Ralph, Kimberly; and Alys, Forst Riley, Kansas. Deceased was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church from which edifice services were held Tuesday at 8:00 o'clock a.m. Rev. Quella having charge. Burial took place at Lena, Wis. John La Berge was of the old school of hardy pioneer woodsmen, who spent most of his life in the great outdoors. He was a quiet unassuming man making many friends since coming to this village, a little over a year ago, where he had since made his home. end Does anyone know what newspaper this would be and the date?
I'm helping out a friend who needs to research her family tree for a school project. Her great-grandfather August Lockstein came to the US from Poland prior to 1906. His wife's name was Amelia Dietz. August's parents were Samuel Lockstein and Wilhelmina Eckert. Does anyone have any other information on this family? Hi, Here are some resources in Oconto. There is also a growing GenWeb site where you can post your family surnames and queries as well as looking over what others have posted. The action is increasing at this site with several "matchups" recently. More is added every week as information is dug up and people send in their family research for the various pages. Hope this helps, Rita Oconto County: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/ Oconto County Genealogical Society P.O. Box 114 Suring, WI 54174 Just up & running Nov. 1997! Dues are only $5 per year. Hi, I too, would love to find someone in the Lena/Coleman area that's willing to do a bit of digging for me. I see that Oconto now has a genealogical society web site. Is the Society new - or just the site? Nelson is also on the WWI Draft Registration on Ancestry; he registered in Colorado where he must have been living with his father (or visiting). Frank and his brother Alphonse owned the Richmond gold mine in Calina, Colorado, which Frank operated. The history says: "This venture was not a success. He (Frank) then moved to Sacramento, California, where he lived until his death." I have a cousin who has letters from him in his garage, however, he is very ill, and can't mail them. Hi all, Am trying to locate anyone in Oconto County, specifically in the Lena area who might help me in my research of my grandfather Joseph Czekaj. He emigrates from the Krakow, Poland area in 1888 and lived in Mt. Pleasant, Pa until 1902. He homesteaded a farm a short distance from Lena in 1902 and lived there until he died in 1922. Wife: Julia, nee Szeli. Children: George, Andrew (Checki), Rose and Pauline. George moved to Milwaukee about 1917, and Andrew took over the farm after his father died and ran it until about the late 1950s. He then moved to Green Bay. Andrew's wife's name was Helen and they had 2 children, Stanley and Marcella. Stanley was killed in Korea in 1951. Anyone that may have information please contact me. Hi, The Town of Morris is actually a rural township in western Shawano County. Wittenberg is the western edge, with the Town(ship) of Almond (just a tad north of Highway 29) being on the northern edge. The southern edge would be Fairbanks Township and the village of Tigerton. The eastern edge is the Township of Seneca. If you don't have a real detailed map, it's just all south of the Stockbridge Indian Reservation........Beautiful country in the fall....just plain COLD in the winter! Let me know if you need further details on where Morris is.... Anne
Does anyone know where Morris is? I have the birth and marriage certificates of my grandfather Ralph Labarge, b. Aug. 12, 1905, and both say he was born in the Town of Morris. The physician's address is Wittenberg. Any help greatly appreciated. Lyn
I guess I should have been clearer in my posting. I DO NOT have any genealogy history available for the city of Waupaca. I CAN tell you recent events and look up phone numbers for you only. I have bombarded by requests to look up 1800 era items. Can't help you there. Sorry.... Debbie Nelsen
Yep Joan, That was me! My dad's 1st cousin, Agatha Leonard, married Nelson Pierre, abt. 1927. The most common mistake with my e-mail is seeing it as 'one-en-dee' instead of 'el-en-dee.' Hi, listers, My belated apologies to all whom I offered to do look-ups for, or return some kind of information to, on my trip to Wisconsin last summer. Although the trip was great for me in many respects it was too short for me to accomplish everything I set out to do...plus the fact that I picked up the wrong folder (dumb! I had two identical)...and left the one with your information at home... On the way home, got the "airplane flu" which knocked me out for about a month....the list goes on, and I'm sure you don't want to hear it.... For the gentleman who asked me to give him a report on the hotel/motel accomodations in Oconto Falls....never got there, sorry! Want to thank Marsha for her great research tips...on libraries, county offices, etc. Saved me some grief! Again, I'm sorry, folks; I'll try to be of more help in the future. Joann
