There is a Jennifer Hoffman > jhoffman@mail.wiscnet.net that I have corresponded with. She has tons of information on Hoffmans and relatives. And it is very accurate and detailed. Check with her Terri
Hi, I am looking for information on Robert Knight, who was born in England in 1826 and died in Farmington, Waupaca County in 1869. He is buried in Barton Cemetery, but there is no obituary available. I believe that he belonged to the Methodist Episcopal church. This would be a Methodist church now. His wife was Anne (Locke) Knight who died June 15 1905. I have not been able to find an obituary on her either. She is also buried at Barton Cemetery. I am trying to locate church records on these people. Does anyone have any ideas where these might be located? Any help appreciated! Terry Knight

I am new to the group and have a special request. Recently, I just learned of a great-great aunt that I previously had no knowledge of. Angeline M. Vennix was born in De Pere 30 Sep 1899. She married George Hoffman in Oshkosh in 1918. According to the SSDI she died in Bonduel in June of 1985. I will be passing through Shawano County in mid-July and would like to try to contact any relatives there at that time. My plan was to obtain a microfilm of the Bonduel newspaper from 1985 to find her obituary and extract the names of any relatives. I just found today that by the time the film can come via interlibrary loan I will have already left. Is there anybody in the group with access to the Bonduel/Shawano newspapers that could kindly look at this obituary and let me know if there are any possible surviving relatives. I apologize for not having this pinned down closer than June of 1985, but this is all th SSDI provides. Thanks in advance.
Dear Listers... I want to share an exciting moment that just occurred. Someone on the Norway list provided me with the location of the Lunds cemetery records. I called the Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano today & told them that I was looking for my ancestors, Rasmus & Alette Paulsen, as well as Paul & Else Rasmussen. The church secretary said, "Oh, wait a minute! There is a Dolores Paulsen who is the caretaker of the Jerusalem cemetery in Lunds. She is a relative of Rasmus & Alette. Here... let me give you her phone number." Well, needless to say, I spent about an hour with her on the phone talking about all kinds of people. The sweetest part of our conversation was that I had the family tree page in front of me and, everytime she mentioned someone, all I had to do was to look for the name & I immediately made the connection. Suddenly, my ancestors were more than just names on a piece of paper! Thank you to everyone who has been so generous with their time and passion by providing me with the information that has brought me this far in my journey. I think I'll go out for Chinese food tonight... I just know my fortune cookie will say, "A trip to Wisconsin is in your future!" Linda
Hi, Still looking for leads on my elusive Carl BLAESE and his wife Henrietta KRAUSE. Both born in ?????,Pommern, Germany and raised their family (13 children) in Bonduel. Shawano Courthouse has a death certificate on Herman BLAESE...possibly a brother of Carl's? I'd love to talk to anyone researching BLAESE or KRAUSE from the Bonduel area. Some of the family lines are NOFFKE, HORN, BARTELT, HINKFUSS, and LAEDTKE. I'm almost ready to issue a "bounty" on these BLAESE's!!!! Thanks....Anne
Does anyone know if there are online immigration records for Shawano county (or Wisconsin in general) in 1882? I've looked through most of the websites but haven't found anything yet. Thanks... Linda Emerson (researching RASMUSSEN, PAULSEN, HANSDATTER, BENJAMINSDATTER)
Thanks to everybody who replied to my uploading message. It seems to be working today. :) LuDeanne ____________________________________________________________________ Get free e-mail and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1

Hi, This is Rita from the Oconto County Site. The Internet in general has been very slow and conjested lately. You may have heard about the hackers who are messing up the government sites, well rumor has it that they are also attacking major internet services, too. But back to your particular problem, the remote computer at Rootsweb will not accept new material if it is "overbooked". It has happened to me several times and when I waited for a less conjested time, it uploaded my stuff fine. It will seem to be adding the material sometimes, but the old page is what is displayed. Other times it will say the material is rejected, or I could not delete the original before adding the new version. Basically, you are most likely doing nothing wrong, and your own computer is probably working just fine. Hope this helps. You Site Neighbor, Rita PS Just wanted to let you know that my KURZ posting on the Shawano County Site has brought me in contact with skilled family researchers on both coasts of the US and we have exchanged huge amounts of great information and old family photos thanks to your time and effort on the Shawano Site! Hello Everybody, I was in the process of uploading the Shawano Pages finally!!! I got one surname on the list and the same on the personal homepage links and was in the process of putting a new counter up and now it won't upload. Does anybody know why? And please if you want your surnames added or anything else let me know at this address. Thanks again. All, GenConnect has been down for a couple of days. For Oconto County Visitors, that means the query board is unavailable, but surnames and everything else at the county site remains up and running without interruption. The County Corodinators recieved the following message in explanation: Rita - Oconto County Host I need to let you know that the server for GenConnect is down right now. It's reporting hard drive failures, but this is being discovered to not be the true problem. They're tuning the server and testing it, in the hopes of finding and fixing whatever it is that's giving these reports. Word is that they hope that the server will be back online by this evening (Monday night).

Hi Everyone! I need to locate an obituary for my great great aunt. According to the Social Security Death Index, she died in Mattoon, WI in July 1985. I would appreciate any information on how I might obtain her obituary. Her information is as follows: Death Location of Death Birth Ida Melchert July 1985 Mattoon, WI (Shawano County) Oct. 21, 1894 Thanks! Hello All, Three new pages are posted in time for Memorial Day on the Oconto County, WI, GenWeb Site featuring full names, enlistment dates, home town, and brief service summary of Civil War Volunteers from that county (and a brief regimental history). County Home Page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/index.htm Oconto County Civil War Main Page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/civilwar.htm Oconto County River Sackers - Infantry: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/riversackers.htm Oconto Guard - Light Artillary: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/11artillery.htm Oconto River Drivers - Infantry to Cavalry: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/4cavalry.htm These government roster lists include the volunteers who lived in Oconto County at the time of enlistment. There were volunteer soldiers from other counties and states other than Wisconsin who are not on the lists, but these units were primarily and originally made up of Oconto County people. Not all Oconto County Volunteers are on these lists as some were scattered into other regiments and others did not live in Oconto County until after the war. This weekend, please take a moment to remember all your ancestors who pioneered the land as well as those who fought for what they believed in. You are the result of their efforts. They would want you to have a safe and happy holiday. Thank you, Rita - Oconto County, WI, GenWeb Site Host Rita
Hi All, I got this e-mail and am passing it on to you, who are definitely among the ones it is written for. I want you to know how people visiting feel about the people in the Oconto County area. I'm pretty proud of you. Scott says it better than I can. Rita - Oconto County GenWeb Volunteer Site Host. From: "Scott & Lori" <lorisims@pe.net> To: <Zorblitz@prodigy.net> Subject: Thank you! Date sent: Sun, 23 May 1999 11:16:40 -0700 Rita, I just returned from a 10 day trip to Green Bay. I was there for a family wedding, but did manage to sneak all over NE Wisconsin. One quick trip into Oconto paid off tremendously. I got an opportunity to spend some time at the courthouse, visit my great-grandparents family plots, amazingly side by side (Clark & Cardinal) in the Evergreen cemetery. I didn't have time to stop at the Farnsworth Library to thank them for their help. If you could pass on to the people in Oconto, the people who have responded to my post's, etc. a very heartfelt "thank you" for all their assistance. I have so many new leads to follow-up on that I will be busy for the next six months. Good Luck on your hunt! Sincerely, Scott A. Vander Sande
Hi again Listers! Very big silence form the list lateliy! I have now time to do more lookups in my census Shawano 1910. Please give me a town or township and family name, and I will send you the tif-image if I find it! In Norway we are now preparing for the big day tomorrow, May 17. Big parades, lots of beautiful kids and marching bands. Everyone celebrating! Even more celebration than USA's July 4.! Yes, I have been there, but no one can compare to the joy of the norwegian childrens day!!! Love from Norway! Laila
Hello, everyone. I was given this listserv address by a member of the Norway list since my ancestors settled in Shawano County. My name is Linda Emerson, daughter of Philip Emerson, granddaughter of Olga Paulson, great granddaughter of Rasmus & Aletta (Benson) Paulson, great great granddaughter of Paul & Else (Hansdatter) Rasmussen. Are any of these names familiar to any of you?
Thanks Gerald! I was just so excited that it was finally up! That's the feature of this site I've been looking forward to. I'm still thrilled. I spent several hours looking for film numbers last night, sitting in my own home, not having to sign up for computer time or be away from my hubby & kids. My big 'complaint' (annoyance really) is using the limited time I have available (only 3hrs/wk!) looking for film #'s to order. I'd rather be using that time looking *at* the films. Happy Hunting! I have run a few tests on it and found that locations in Pommern that do have records microfilmed and are listed in the CD version of the FHL catalog do not show up in the on-line version. Some examples: Wildenbruch, Kr. Greifenhagen; Treptow, Kr. Greifenberg, Gu"tzlaffshagen, Kr. Greifenberg; Zedlin, Kr. Greifenberg; Rosenthal, Kr. Soldin.
