Hello, Iam interested in finding any cousins by the name of KICKBUSCH / KIECKBUSCH. Thank you. Gdee
Mark, Go to this address (below) for a complete listing of the Oconto County Newspapers over the past 125+ years and where to find them. http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/newspapers.htm Hope this helps, Rita I'm in Dallas, Texas, so let me know if there is an internet database I can access or if you have an address for the Green Bay Intelligencer or other English and German newspapers which existed for readers in Oconto County and Brown County in those days. Mark Johnson <rmjohns@wt.net>
Thanks Tom. I appreciate you asking the question, because I've had the same thoughts. If naturalizations are filed by year, how do we begin to figure out what year? Was it always done in the county they resided? I will also appreciate any information forthcoming from the rest of you. Tom, Go to the address below for an explaination of the Naturalization process (years ago) and there is an image of two actual examples (my ancestors from the mid 1800's). Hope this helps, Rita http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/what.htm#TYPES OF DOCUMENTS I have a few questions regarding the naturalization papers that have been brought up on the list a few times lately. I've been at this for a short time and I have heard that these can be very valuable but I know very little about them. What kind of information can be obtained from these? Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you know that Cathe found my NOFFKE immigration papers for me at the Family History Center in Shawano. I received so many kind offers the last day or two from people on the list----I appreciate all your replies & I won't need to take you up on your generous offers.....A big thanks to all of you &, Cathe, way to go!!!!! (Can you tell she made my day?!?) Again, thanks to all of you who offered to go the "extra mile"....sometimes it was more like an extra 50+ miles!! You are the best! Take care, Anne
Can anyone direct me to a source for obituaries for my family which lived in Morgan and Wrightstown? They might also be in German language papers since at least one of them never learned to speak English. They all died between 1905 and 1925. I'm in Dallas, Texas, so let me know if there is an internet database I can access or if you have an address for the Green Bay Intelligencer or other English and German newspapers which existed for readers in Oconto County and Brown County in those days. I got a picture frame at a rummage sale today and in it is a picture of Leona HEIDMANN. It is signed to Grandma and Grandpa from Leona Heidmann. My guess is that it is a confirmation picture. If this fits in anyone's family I will gladly send you the picture. Gerrie
Hi, Is anyone headed into the Family History Center in Shawano in the near future? I need a lookup of naturalization papers in their card index for Fred NOFFKE, b.1866 who immigrates around 1883/1884. Specifically I'm looking for the port and ship name...but ANYTHING on him would be great! Thanks, Anne in Tolland, Connecticut
Just got word from Sister Kaster that the GreenBay Diocease Archives isn't doing any genealogical work until after the new year.Thought I might save someone some time by letting everyone know. Victoria
Hi Everyone! Everyone on this list has been REALLY helpful. The last time I talked to my mother and told her the name of the orphanage/boarding school she up and tells me oh that's where I started school. The orphanage was Guardian Angel in Oneida.Groan.I guess she is just remembering things that she forgot long ago.A birth certificate has been found for a daughter that none of them seems to remember. She was born to the same parents but what I don't understand is why her birth certificated was found in Shawano County but none of the others were.??And to make things worse she was born on the same day as my mother but in a different town! Can anyone give me some ideas on this? Victoria
Thanks Gloria! And thank you to the others who have helped also.I have had look ups done for Brown and Shawano counties. No luck. So the records must be in Oconto county.Would anyone be willing to look them up in Oconto for me? I have checked the rootsweb Oconto page and there are not any volunteers that I could see that did this type of look up.I do not know what church they went to.Here are the children's names again: Theodore J. Zdarstek(may be spelled Zdarresk(h?)ek on b.cert.) b.21Apr1921 in Pulaski,Wi Paul Zdarstek-b.1922 in Pulaski,Wi Eleanor Victoria Zdarstek b.16June1924 in Pulaski,Wi Helen Marie Zdarstek b.25June1925 in Pulaski,Wi. Last week someone posted a message regarding children whose mother had died at Pulaski. I have missplaced the e-mail. The orphanage was St. Joseph's Home for Children, and was located in the area of current Catholic Archdiose, Green Bay. The archdiose should have records in regards to their placement.. For the boy who was placed in Shawno County, his care would probably have been handled by the State of Wisconsin, Department of Health and/or Social Services, because of what was available on county level in the 1930s. I was told that parts of community of Pulaski, are in Oconto, Shawno and Brown County. Therfore, it would depend on which part of the village they lived in which county would be involved if it was handled on the county level. I was talking to a retired social worker who worked in Oconto and Shawno Counties. Hope this helps. Gloria
I'm unsubscribing for the duration of a short vacation. Have a safe holiday weekend, everyone! Linda

Hi all! By popular demand I have created a Wisconsin Surname Locator page on ALHN WI. The pages hold such information as what surname is being researched, what county it is being researched in, who is researching it, and a link to that researcher's email address. Please stop by and check it out or add your names at: http://www.usgennet.org/~alhnwius/WI_index.html - scroll down to Wisconsin Surname Locator and click on that button. There are well over 700 surnames listed there now and more being worked on as you read this. If someone has a Marriage Index Book for Shawano County, would you be willing to do a lookup for me? I'm looking for the marriage of Olga Emilie Paulson to Howard Leslie Emerson. I'm guessing that the marriage took place in Waukechon in the late 19-teens or early 1920s since that is where Olga's family was living. Many thanks... Linda
Hello, I'm new to this list and would like to hear from anyone with either of the above names. I think we may be related. Clara Gdee
I am new on the list.My grandfather,Joseph Emil Zdziarski, lived several places in Wi:Shawano,Pulaski,Oconto, and maybe Oneida. He was married to Mary Balga/Baldga.(My aunt gave me two different spellings.)The children born to Mary(1921-1925 in Pulaski) were Theodore J. Zdarstek,Paul Zdarstke,Eleanor Victoria Zdarstek(my mom),and Helen Marie Zdarstek. On their birth certificates the surname is spelled Zdarreshek.(Fun huh?)The children from the first marriage(Rozalie Wiszk)were Antone Zdiarstek,Joseph Emil Zdiarstek(b.Jamaica,NY),George Zdarstek,Chester Zdardstek,Christina Zdarstek.(In Bridgeport,CT.)Around 1928-1932 Mary had a nervous breakdown and the children were sent to orphanages. My aunt said they went to a Catholic Boarding school run by nuns.My mom says the name was ST. Wenceslous.Their brother Paul was sent to a special home in Shawano because he had a physical problem. That's all I know about him.The other three went to West High School in Green Bay. None of my cousins and I have ever been told much about the family, but now we all want to know. Has anyone ever heard of this family?I know where all my cousins are.We are interested in finding aunts and uncles and great grandparents. If you can help we sure would love it!! Victoria L. German
Hi, I don't remember seeing an answer to this question previously. I know of a Kuckuk family in Madison, WI and asked my in-laws to forward this onto them for me.
