John may have been the son of Richard Waugh (c1766-1842), the first postmaster in nearby Dickson Co., Tennessee, who came to Davidson Co. from Amherst Co., Virginia, about 1797. On December 13, 1810, John Waugh and Mary Bronaugh Peyton (c1787-c1850) bonded to marry in Davidson Co., Tennessee. Their license itself was lost. They had four known children: Charles Newton (1813-1888) who married Mary Ann Tinsley, Mariah M. (born 1817) who married John Robert Foster, Martha (born c1818) who married James Frank Foster, and James B. (born c1820) who probably remained a bachelor.
