Several accounts show Guillaume to be an expert marksman, a scout for the militia, veteran of the war of 1812 and one says that he was a corporal at the storming of the Bastile. Guillaume was said to have great courage and excellent eyesight. (Although my husband and I both have had poor eyesight since childhood, both of our sons have perfect eyesight and our eldest is a superior shot.) You can read more about Guillaume Duduit and the Five Hundred at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~henryhowesbook/scioto.html - and I have an excellent book by William Sibley, "The French Five Hundred and Other Papers" from The Tribune Press, 1901. The land grant signed to the French Five Hundred by President Thomas Jefferson gave them land just across the river from Kentucky. IF Augusteen and John Waugh are buried together in KY, I would have to see very predominant evidence that the John Waugh of PA could be the same John Waugh. Transportation of bodies some distance for burial was not as common then as now, and I'd be more inclined to think your PA John Waugh might be a younger relation (nephew or cousin) through those yet undiscovered PA ancestors. Until now, sources had directed me to the 1790 birthplace of John Waugh in Washington township in western New York. These same sources claim that his mother was a Native American and this township is very near the location of Seneca Indian tribal lands. In the 1800's, you did not volunteer that you were Native American, which might go a long way toward explaining the brick wall. Something to consider... What is your family connection to this Waugh/Duduit family group? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
