My wife just purchased an "Uncle Remus" book on ebay. Within the pages was an old letter from Minnie Waugh, Dated December 3 1918 to Aileen Brisco, apparently a school teacher with whom she was writing. The paper is old, brown, and brittle and the writing looks like Minnie was about 10 years old at the time. Feel free to write if this would be of any interest. Pete Nunnallee petenun@yahoo.com

J.E. WAUGH, whose maiden name was MARTHA LUCINDA ARNOLD, was born February 18, 1860 near Albia, Monroe County, Iowa, and died November 9, 1905 at Excelsior Springs, Missouri, aged 45 years, 8 months and 22 days. Early in life she became a member of the Christian Church and ever remained true to her Christian duties. For the past five years she has been one of the most faithful members of the Chariton congregation. She was married February 20, 1879, at Selection, Iowa, to MR. JOHN E. WAUGH. To this union were born three children, MRS. ALICE SANDERSON of Oregon; MRS. CAMMIE MILLER of Des Moines and MISS ZORELDA WAUGH of Chariton. These with husband, a sister, MRS. ALBERT HILTON, brother A.G. ARNOLD, half sisters, MRS. D.A. NOBLE and MRS. L.S. SYLVESTER, half brother, M.T. ARNOLD, and grandchildren, D. and WENDELL SANDERSON are thus left bereaved. On October 28th in company with her husband she left home on a visit, spending a few days visiting at Albia and Hilton, arriving at Excelsior Springs, Mo., November 1st. On the morning of the third she was taken suddenly ill with congestion of the lungs and gradually grew worse, until in spite of the best care and medical skill, she died on the evening of November 9th. Her girlhood days were spent near Selection. After marriage she resided some time near Atlantic, Iowa, later moving to Albia. In the spring of 1900 the family moved to Chariton. She was respected by all as one of Chariton's splendid Christian women. She was also a member of the Woodman Circle. A large number of friends from Albia and Chariton attended her funeral services which were held from the Albia Christian Church, conducted by C.F. Ward, Minister for the Chariton Christian Church. Burial was at Oak View Cemetery at Albia, where she awaits the summons of the Lord she loved and whom she served so faithfull! y. MR. WAUGH and daughters have our tenderest sympathy in this, their great hour of sadness. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert September 9, 2004 http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/Main.htm posted at this site with Nancee's permission.
Hi Listers, Am still seeking info on James Harvey WAUGH (b1818 North Carolina) married to Rebecca MILLER (b1821 Virginia) on Sept 3, 1840 In Monroe County. They had 9 children with at least 6 surviving to adulthood as follows: Emily A. 1843 - ? Howard H. 1846 -1851 William M. 1848 -1853 Wickliffe 1852 - ? Alice 1854 -? John 1855- ? Walter 1859 -? Mary Elizabeth 1858-1858 Martin 1861- ? I can find this family in the 1850 Bloomington Township, 1860 Perry Township and 1870 Troy Township census, but then lose them all! James Harvey Waugh died in Dec 1864 and is supposedly buried in the Waugh Family Cemetery in Perry Township, Section 9, Monroe County, Indiana. But what of everyone else? Does anyone know anything about the descendents of this family? I would like to track down my MILLER cousins through my Rebecca MILLER d/o Martin Luther & Mary "Polly" Myers MILLER. All help is greatly appreciated. Dale Miller Payne

John may have been the son of Richard Waugh (c1766-1842), the first postmaster in nearby Dickson Co., Tennessee, who came to Davidson Co. from Amherst Co., Virginia, about 1797. On December 13, 1810, John Waugh and Mary Bronaugh Peyton (c1787-c1850) bonded to marry in Davidson Co., Tennessee. Their license itself was lost. They had four known children: Charles Newton (1813-1888) who married Mary Ann Tinsley, Mariah M. (born 1817) who married John Robert Foster, Martha (born c1818) who married James Frank Foster, and James B. (born c1820) who probably remained a bachelor.

I have WAUGH connections to RI and am looking to connect with anyone from that branch. This is what I know/surmise about them; see if you can make any connections. Daniel WAUGH m. Ann(ie) POWER(S) abt. 1890s. Both from St.John's, Newfoundland or nearby. Danial born abt. 1866, Annie born abt. 1877. Moved from Newfoundland to Boston area, Massachusetts, and eventually or immediately settled in Newton/Needham area. They are buried in the Catholic cemetery their (St.Mary's?) Had several children one of whom was also named Daniel (Jr.)(Possibly also a Gertrude, Annie, George, Ruth, James and others...I forget off-hand). Daniel (Jr.) moved to RI sometime as early as 1930s(?). Immediately or afterwards in the Cumberland, RI area. He married a woman named CLARA and had children, a son Danial (III) and a daughter, CLAIRE, possibly others. Daniel and Clara are deceased, and their children are grown and likely have children of their own. Possibly Daniel (III) is also deceased. This family had cousins in Boston/Brighton. Daniel's (Sr.) brother, Joseph WAUGH m. Mary BOGGAN (sp?) and they had several children as well. Joseph died before 1930. One child was named Florence but she had several brothers and sisters, some of whom may have died as children or young adults. One of whom was a William (Bill). Florence married a man, last name, MORGAN and they had a son called "Mickey". Believe they divorced and Florence later married a "Fred" Palladino, and that couple had a son named "Fred Jr." Both Daniel, Sr., and his brother Joseph, were also brothers to a Philip. He married an Mary Elizabeth Dunn around 1900, and they were in Newton/Needham for a short while, then back to St.John's then settled in Rumford, Maine, where they are buried. This couple's oldest child was born in Needham and that was my father, John Henry WAUGH. I do not know of anyone named Warren, but I do not know much about the younger generations. If any of these names or places suggest a connection, please contact me. Thanks very much. John WAUGH (Posted to Ancestry list and emailed direct)
