Yes he had a brother named Wellwood along with brothers Alexander, William and sisters Catherine and Mary. I live in the Chicago area. My family has been here in Illinois at least since the Civil War. Thanks for the information, it seems like our family trees split 6 generations ago, but if you have further information I would be interested to hear it. Thanks, Pete

I am also 7th generation and have some limited history provided to me by my father. His mother received a correspondence from Marjorie Grant back in 1961 in which she outlined our family tree link to Wellwood Waugh. Marjorie lived in Tatamgouche and had one daughter with the last name of Banks. My family's link relates from Wellwood Waugh to Thomas Waugh, to Mary Jane Currie (nee Waugh), to there daughter Mary Jane Pryde, to my grandmother Lora Traeger, to my father John Traeger then to myself. I have a copy showing this link along with all their children. If you would like I could fax or mail a copy to you. If you have any more info to share, it would be appreciated. Regards, Pete Traeger

The marriage license was filed 06/30/1923. The marriage was to John I. Clubb, possibly my Great Grandfather, also listed as being from Picher. It has been told to me that my Clubb ancestor might have been in the Picher are for mining work. John I. Clubb's first wife died shortly before 1920, best guess, and I have been unable to locate him in 1920 and 1930. I had always believed that he married Cora "unknown" after the death of his first wife so Maggie Waugh is a new name to me. Does anyone out there recognize this Maggie Waugh or have any information about her marriage to John I. Clubb? I appreciate your consideration and remain hopeful for a reply.

The reason I am posting on this board is that someone has suggested on the VAUGHT boards that VAUGHT...the "modern" spelling for VOGT, actually originated with the WAUGH family out of Scotland and they claim the roots go back to the 14th century. I have tried to find any connection and short of a misspelled name, have found none. Does anyone researching the WAUGH family have any info on a branch reolocating to Germany pre-1680? I do know that often the VAUGHT name was misspelled by English scribes in the 1700s as WAUGH. Thank you for any assistance! Steven Vaught

    3. You stated that John William Waugh b. 1630 in VA is incorrect. He was born in Tyrone, Ireland. He moved to Stafford Co., Virginia and was the minister of Overwharton Parish until about 1700. Rev. John Waugh was also one of the first ministers of Aquia Church which still stands today in Stafford, VA. Rev. Waugh came to Stafford around the 1650's-60's. According to a Virginia historian he almost started a war between Maryland and Virginia. (Protestants vs. Catholics) His daughter, Elizabeth, married Col. George Mason II, father of George Mason III of Gunston Hall Plantation. Elizabeth was George II's second wife. Other prominent Virginia families connected with the Waugh's are the Fitzhugh, Madison, Lee, and Mercer families. This Waugh family can be found in many colonial records of Stafford, Prince William, King George, Orange, and other surrounding counties of Virginia. A good place to start, if you haven't already, is the Virginia Library. www.lva.lib.va.us. Many of Rev. Waugh's papers can also be found on-line. Just do a search on his name and you'll be surprised at what you find. Good Luck.
