It's too bad neither of us could find Richard in earlier censuses. I believe your logic is sound that, if these two Richards are the same, as appears likely, he and Pamelia must have separated before Richard migrated to TN. Before seeing Catlett's will, I'd presumed Richard was a widower. You show only Elizabeth (born c1790) as their child, but, it would seem the couple might also have had a son born about then - my elusive ancestor John. My estimate for John's birth could just as well have been c1790. He married in TN in 1810 and would have come there as a young boy with his father Richard in the late 1790s, in the wake of a family rift. I'm also interested in your Campbell ancestors. Your Lawrence Campbell might have been closely related to my Joseph Campbell (c1740-1794) of Caroline Co., Virginia. Fuller information is available on my website at: http://users.wirelessfrontier.net/~acree/default.html

His daughter Nancy Campbell is my 3rd great-grandmother. Pamelia was Nancy's sister. Pamelia married Richard Waugh in Amherst Co., 1 Sept 1789. I have no infromation on this couple after their marriage; the internet shows the marriage and a dau., Elizabeth, but no information after 1790's. There may be information in the Court records of Amherst County; I have not looked. The will of Catlett Campbell, brother of Pamelia and Nancy, was written 11 Jan 1845 (Orange Co., North Carolina Wills, 1753-1968 CR.073.801.8 - my transcription is posted on the county's GenWeb site), and in dividing the remainder of his assest it provides "in trust one part of it for the sole and separate use of my sister PAMELIA WAUGH during her natural life and at her death for the use and benefit of her living children, but during her life to be free from the control of her husband and to be liable for his debt or contracts." There was no residuary and I have founding nothing to indicate there was any distribution to or communication with Pamelia Waugh after Catlett's death later in January. Similar bequests were made to two other sisters without the language concerning their husbands; it is probable but not certain that at least one of those husbands was living in 1845. Consequently, Catlett may have had concerns about Richard, but if Pamelia's husband was Richard of Dickson Co. then when Catlett wrote his will he was unaware of Richard's death two plus years earlier. Richard Waugh of Dickson Co. appears in the 1820 and 1830 census, and no females are listed. It Pamelia was his wife, it appears they had separated. My information about Lawence Campbell and his children is posted at http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=jhmjr&id=I00327

I'd appreciate learning the nature of your interest in Richard Waugh. There are numerous published references to the man of that name who came to Davidson Co., TN, by way of Knoxville, in the late 1790s and served many years as postmaster and register in Charlotte, Dickson Co., where he participated in several land transactions and finally died insolvent before 17 October 1842 - his heirs annonymously recorded to be "non-residents of Tennessee." I've been unsuccessful in connnecting this Richard (who I believe circumstantially to have been the father of my ancestor, John, although 1820 & 1830 census records show Richard living alone in TN) with the man you mention who married Pamela Campbell. There appear to have been other Richard Waughs who lived in VA in the late 1700s, one of whom married widow Margaret Brown in Orange Co. VA in 1782 but died in Culpepper Co, VA in 1805.

While doing family research I stumbled upon a marriage record for, I believe my great grandfather, John I. Clubb. The record, from the website of Oklahoma District Court Records, indicates a petition for marriage to Maggie Waugh in Ottawa County, Oklahoma 30 Jun 1923. I am seeking out any family information on Maggie Waugh to help establish her as one of the wives of my great grandfather and/or possibly that Maggie could be the mother of one of John's children. Thank you for your time and I remain hopeful for a reply.
