    3. Hi Bradley Your posting to the Waugh message board mentions your aunt, Peggy Waugh Hart. She and I were in contact about Waugh genealogy several years ago, but the e-mail address I have for her is no longer valid. Could you please pass on her current address so that I can send her what I have on the descendants of Jacob and Almira? Alternatively, please ask her to contact me. John Ballard

    3. Hi Peggy, Hope you remember me. You were a great help in helping me find some of my missing Waughs. I am related thru Sarah EllenWaugh, the Granddaughter of Jacob and Elmirah McNeil. I have been to the Springfield Library and found some items about the Waugh Families that you may find interesting. I also have a question about Rebecca Lin Waugh. I have her born on 3-24-1835 in Ohio, daughter of James and Fidelia Briggs is this correct? Was she married to someone by the last name of Short? She may also be a connection to my Sells Family. When you get time please drop me a line. 3. Hello, Yes, I have had the pleasure of communicating with your Aunt Peggy . She has been very helpful with helping me locate some of my Waughs. Sorry, to say, I do not have any photos. Sure wish I did. Leota May is the sister to my ancestor John Cannon Waugh. If I do run across anything I will contact you or Peggy. That was before she was born, but her two older sisters were there. Again, I am primarily interested in Identifying the photographs, Peggy is the historian.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZYVBAEB/488 Message Board Post: Oh, those Irish roots! Looking for William WAUGH (b.c. 1835 Ireland, son of Joseph WAUGH and Catherine HANLON). William married Mary BROWN in 1860 in Bonhill, Dnb, Sct. Between 1861 and 1870 - they had six children (Catherine, Isabella, Mary, James, William, Charles) born in the Bonhill area (Alexandria, Jamestown). On the 1860 marriage cert. Joseph Waugh and wife Catherine were not listed as deceased. The family does suspect that Joseph and Catherine had left Ireland for Scotland (Glasgow or Dumbarton) by the mid-1850s. Although this may be wishful thinking, there is always hope. Any information on this Waugh line would be wonderful.

I live in Virginia, about 90 minutes from Orange. In the 1910 census, this person's name was interpreted as Nopdson B. Waugh, but we know it is our relative because of the wife and remaining children in the home at the time. This is very exciting information to check out - - - a marriage between a B. Warr or hopefully N.B.Waugh and a Betty/Elizabeth ?????. Thank you so much for your help.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZYVBAEB/487 Message Board Post: I am looking for information about a William H. Waugh who married a Malinda Rutherford about 1838 in Georgia. He was a merchant. The family moved to Macon COunty, Alabama about 1843. He died sometime between 1860 and 1870. William and Malinda had children: Margaret b abt 1838 (m. Wm C Bower) Elizabeth William Laura Minnie b abt 1847 (m. Simmons) Roger I am trying to confirm where WIlliam came from in Scotland. I believe his father to have been Robert son of WIlliam Waugh and Mary Hiddleston from Nithsdale Scotland. They are buried in Dunscore cemetery. There is a story about RObert in a book called something like Dumrfieshire Worthies. The story mentioned that RObert had a son in the US that sent him money and Robert went out to join him about 1848 to some place called Gavannah ( which I think was Savannah). I also came across passenger list for a RObert age 70 aand a Elizabeth Waugh age 39 to New Orleans in 1849. Does anyone have any information about the origins of this William of Georgia and Alabama. Your research problem is an interesting one so I've been looking to find an entry for Bonaparte in the 1880 census. There is absolutely nothing for a Napoleon Waugh b abt 1857 in Virginia. But your mention of Boney made me do a search on variations on Boney and there is a curious entry in Gordon , Orange County, Virginia for a Bona Warr, age 23, white, b Virginia with a wife Betty age 19. There are no other Warr's in Orange County. This Bona is the right age and the surname may be phonetic misspelling. Just thought I'd mention it. Good luck with your search. Joanna

But the fact that the census taker was told this was a first marriage for NBWaugh doesn't necessarily make it true. This would not be something that the family would want spread all over the tiny little town of Shelbyville.

"Boney" died in 1911 and left 7 living children and a widow in Shelbyville, KY. The widow (my great-grandmother) was understandably reluctant to talk about this other family, because to acknowlege their existence, in effect would make her marriage null and her children would be considered illegitimate. That was NOT something that a proud woman would want known. She died in 1950 when I was only 2 years old. She never remarried during all those years. The one hope we have is that someone will have a family record of a great (or great-great) grandfather with this very unusual name that might bring us together.
