How wonderful to hear from a Waugh from the branch of Joseph Waugh and Mary Boggan! I have done lots of research, and got some great help along the way, and I have my/our Waugh family linkage back to England as early as a marriage in 1689! My own personal research got back as far as 1803, but through connecting with a third cousin. who is living in Montreal, and who had been doing genealogy since around 1990, she shared with me what she had got by writing to registration offices in northeast England. So that's how I got the older info. Your Great-grandfather Joseph, was a brother to my grandfather, Philip. Your g-grand died sometime before 1930, as your g-grandmother, Mary is listed as a widow on the 1930 US census, living on Commonwealth Ave. (The rest of the response was emailed direct, but if anyone has any connections to the family Waugh from Newfoundland, or Newton or Boston, Massachusetts, or Rhode Island, or Rumford, Maine, please contact as we are likely of the same family!) I'm new to ancestry.com. This is my first time posting a reply...not sure how this works, but I was searching for my mother's father whom she never knew and decided to search for my own father's ancestry. His name was Robert William Waugh. Before he died he had done some researching of his own and sent me some info and memoirs. That was about 15 years ago. When I read your post I got a deja vu feeling that compelled me to find that info my father had sent me. You mention several names that he did. I do believe we have a common Waugh branch. My father's family is from Boston. I believe Joseph Waugh and Mary Boggan were my great grandparents. If you're interested, please contact me. Hi Thanks for your email. I am not sure that we can connect with Dorothy Waugh, I have got back to Francis Waugh born Scarborough 1862, looking at the census in 1841 there is a connection to a Dorothy Brown nee Waugh but I am not sure this is the mother of my Thomas Waugh. There is still a lot of searching to do before I can be sure. Your grandmother Mattie was my very favorite great aunt and I loved visiting with her. She and Aunt Nell owned an antique shop for several years and we would get small antique china pieces as gifts from time to time. I know that many years after your grandfather's death, Mattie came back to Kentucky and was contacted by a former beau, Edward Jones, and they rekindled that romance and were married well in their 60's. If memory serves me correctly, your grandfather was Vernon Fisher and a physician or psychologist. I think he had a book published that my grandmother had in a back bedroom. They lived out west somewhere - - Kansas/Missouri area I think - - until his death when Mattie came back to Kentucky. I'd love to message with you more about your father (I think he might have been a "junior") and you and your family. We have quite a bit of information - - - my daughter (Laura Thompson Smith)messaged you earlier this week. We'd be very happy to share our information with you. Yes, this would be the correct family. My grandmother Mattie Waugh Fisher was the daughter of Napoleon Bonaparte Waugh and she was from Kentucky. I know quite a bit from the time she was an adult and married my grandfather. Unfortunately I don't know anything about her parents (other than names) or anything about her siblings so would be interested in learning more. I think I do have a vague recollection of the mention of Morgan, which I am taking is her brother but it is a very vaugue memory. Unfortunately my father, Mattie' son, was an only child and died almost 13 years ago unexpectedly so I never had the chance to ask him about his roots, which as I grow older, have become of much greater interest to me :). Thanks so much. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
