Gorey and Sarah, 53, are at the bottom of the page. His household continues on the next page with John, 32; Robertson, 27; William, 26; Elizabeth, 24; Thomas, 22; Brice, 20; Travis, 17; Eliza, 13; William W. Author: H_Mischka Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.waugh/823.3.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Yes. Gorey Waugh married Abigail Powell Aug 30, 1870 in Mason County. I only have one census page where the older Gorey and Sarah are at the bottom of the page. If I remember, they were the only people in their household in that census. My situation is the same as yours with your John Waugh, I have no proof, but am pretty sure Henry was the son of Gorey and Sarah. Henry and Nancy's first daughter was named Sarah, and first son they named Gorey. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: H_Mischka Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.waugh/823.3.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you very much. I did not know that Gorey moved to Illinois and Missouri. I assumed he died in the 1850's. I also am not 100% sure, but do believe this is the correct Gorey, since I had found Henry and Nancy Waugh right beside Gorey and Sarah in the 1850 census of Mason County. Another reason I believe this is that Henry and Nancy named their first son Gorey (born about 1850). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: fyfede_1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.waugh/823.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Gorey Waugh, born about 1795 (I've seen 9 Nov 1796, but no documentation for that date), married Sarah "Sally" Henry in Gallia County, Ohio on 22 Feb 1816. They are my 3rd great grandparents. Gorey is apparently a nickname for George. There are several George Waughs in Gallia County, Ohio in the early 1800s, so I suspect he used this name to distinguish himself from all the others. Gorey and Sally moved to Mason County, WV, in the 1830s, where Sally died about 1851. Gorey moved with his son William (my great-great-grandfather) first to Marion County, Illinois in the late 1850s and then to Taney County, Missouri, following the Civil War, where he died sometime in the 1870s. Gorey was probably born in either Amherst or Bedford County, Virginia, the son of Henry Waugh and Elizabeth Brown. Henry and Elizabeth moved to Gallia County, Ohio, in 1801 according to a history of Gallia County. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
