When George died in 26 Jan 1896 - Millie Ann married her husbands older brother Jacob 02 Apr 1896 this info for Obediah and Barbara Watts sounds more realistic then others for Pascual watson and Mary Mains thanks for the info jb Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jjwaugh Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.waugh/842.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Take a look at the Indiana State library databases. The marriage database to 1850 shows a marriage between James Waugh and Mahala G Plummer in Marion County 7 -31-1838. There is also a marriage for Paul Harrison Waugh in 1832. You really can't say for sure that you've got the right census records unless you have the actual marriage and death records for both Millie and this james and birth record for Millie/permelia if there is one. In the 1850 census there are almost 14000 people with the first name Mahala. It is a common name for the period and has biblical and Hebrew origins. The 1860 census for George and Millie show a James Watson b ohio about 1832 and wife D A beside them. Possibly a brother. Both George and James in the 1880 census give their parents as born in Virginia. James 'children birthdates and places show the Watsons moved to Illinois from Ohio about 1857 so they should be there in 1850 but I can't find them. The online trees that suggest Obadiah "Watts" show 3 sons Jacob, James and George W. There is a George age 13 with a Jacob Watts in the 1850 census in Pickaway Ohio. You have to get the BMD records for these 3 men in order to prove anything. This line seems more plausible because of the grandson Obadiah. Millie married George Watson in Illinois One son - Oliver Perry Watson married Minnie Mae Dilley these are my grandparents - lived in Henning, Vermillon CO; Illinois Millie is Part - Half Indian Her mother i believe was full Indian. The name Mahala is not your normal everyday English Christian name. i remember when I was young, In my Grandmother Minnie,s upstairs closet their were pictures of Indians out in the yard. The picture that I have of ggrandmother Millie indicates that she is very much Indian and looks like she would be related to these Indians in the Yard. In addition My Aunt Pearl in her diary said that she went with relatives to Indian graveyards on the back side of Kickapoo Park in Vermillon Co. Do you have any info for the parents of George Watson. some infor indicates his parents were Paschal Watson and Elender Jenkins while another source sollars & allied families have Obediah Watts and Barbara Hawk as parents thank you so much for the information hope to hear back from you0 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. James and Mahala both age 35 and both born Kentucky. Also Millie is likely the nickname for Permelia shown as age 13. Possible siblings in 1850 Samuel w. , 9, Van J. 7, Mary E. 5, James J 3, Charles H, 1. This family is in Ross Twp Vermilion by 1860 and has additional children David age 9, Elias age 7, George 4, and John age2. James and Mahala are still there in 1870. In 1880 James is married to a Rebecca. ANcestry shows a marriage of James G Waugh to a Rebecca Wigginbothan in 1876 in Warren County Indiana. By 1880 Millie and George have 10 children. James G Waugh (indexed as Wough) is in the 1840 Boone County Indiana census as head of household : James 30<40 age, female under 5, and female 20<30. There are other Waugh households on the same census page: Paul H. Waugh 30<40 with family Jacob Waugh age 70 <80 , 1 male 15<20, female 30<40 On another page is another Jacob 30<40 yrs with family. I think its likely this Jacob the older is the father of Jacob, James and Paul but no proof. Hope this helps Joanna Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. A hint for Waugh searchers in and around Gallia, OH…. I believe my husband’s 5th GGF was John Waugh, who married Augusteen Duduit abt 1800. Augusteen Duduit was one of 13 children of Guillaume Duduit and Agnes Desot who were documented members of the French Five Hundred… a fascinating story about people fleeing the ravages of the French Revolution, sold the 1790 version of Florida swampland. Because John Waugh and Augusteen Duduit had so many children (few are documented together as siblings, but you can patch the findings together based on the same parents and different birth years) there are many Waugh lines that lead back to Gallia and the tri-state area of OH, WV, and KY. My husband’s own family went from OH to KY and then WV. Do some searching for documentation on the Duduit family connected with the French Five Hundred. The name has been mangled enough that you can also search for Didway and several other spellings, but you will find Waugh’s connected and many French given names among them. My husbands 3rd Great Grandfather dumped his first name when he enlisted in the 2nd Kentucky CSA as a private, for his parents had named him General Lafayette Waugh… there are not a few Napoleon’s and Zaire’s (females).
