Waugh, at 89 years of age, transfered his many years residence in Pollock Pines and Placerville for his home in Heavenly Glory. He was lovingly attended by his three children, Nancy (John) Crowley, Brian (Helen) Waugh and Theresa (Ed) Fransau, and his four grandchildren, Loran, Jason and Sara Waugh and Megann Crowley. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Waugh. Arthur was born in Tonopah, Nev. He spent most of his young years in Nevada. His many life experiences included working underground in a copper mine, hotel night auditor, and serving in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was awarded several medals including the Purple Heart, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air medal. Arthur met his future wife, Mary, while being trained as a radio operator and machine gunner. While serving in the 8th Air Force Division, he survived two plane crashes, one in Africa and one in England. As soon as he returned from overseas, he and the light of his life were married. After the war he enrolled in the Art Institute of Chicago, and graduated with a BFA in Commercial Art. In 1957, Art switched professions and became an elementary school teacher. He taught three years in Mt. View, Calif., then moved to Pollock Pines, Calif., in 1960, where he taught until he formally retired in June 1984. He continued to teach part-time at various schools throughout the county until the late 1990s. He is survived by his three children, four grandchildren, his older brother Fred Waugh, his younger sister Betty Mattheus, and his cousin Marcia Russell, as well as other nephews and nieces.
