    1. [WATTS-L] South Carolina WATTS'
    2. I am researching my line of Watts' from South Carolina. George Washington Watts, my grandfather was said to have been from Laurens, SC born about 1858-60? He had three brothers, William John (Bill) born about 1859?, Gus born ??? and James born about 1880-81? George "Wash" Watts married Margaret Moreland in Paulding County, GA in 1894 and had 13 children, of which eleven survived to adulthood. My father, James Curtis Watts, was the twelfth child. Bill Watts married Emily or Emma Austin circa 1889-1892 and had ten children. The one of the eldest boys Bogan Watts were born in Ora, SC. in 1890. Gus Watts (half-brother) married Caroline and had six children. James Watts was born in Lawrence, SC. He married three times and had one son, Emerson Watts. George Watts died in 1932 in Los Angeles, CA, William (Bill) died in 1935 in GA, Gus died ????? in GA and James died in 1962 in Chicago, Ill. I don't have any hard evidence, other than the SS application of Bogan that places anyone in SC. On the 1900 - 1920 census the brothers are listed as Black or Mulatto. Has anyone researching the Watts line from this area come across any papers from your ancestors that possibly list these brothers in property records, wills, deeds or bills of sale? Does anyone have any information on the Watts Mill area or the plantation that was there? Is anyone else researching a Black line of Watts' from SC? I am greatly interested in sharing information but this is as far back as I can go at the present. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Easy Skier@aol.com
