I'm Earl Rook from St. Paul, Minnesota and I am looking for information on my ggggrandfather, James Harvey Watts, born 21 March 1827 (location unknown) and died 24 November 1897 (again, location unknown). He married Martha Gill (born 11 March 1828; died 1 February 1872, in Oblong, Crawford County, IL) on 11 October 1849 in Crawford County, IL. They had 8 children that I know of: Amanda F. Watts, born 1 July 1850 Louisa Jane Watts, born circa 1852 Mary Watts, born 1 February 1854 William P. Watts, born circa 1855 Unnamed Infant, born 20 February 1859 John H. Watts, born circa 1860 Phebe Ann Watts, born 12 June 1862 George Thomas Watts, born 8 January 1864 My gggrandmother, Phebe Ann, was born in Oblong, IL and it is likely all or most of the others were as well though I do not have that documented. Phebe married Stephen Louis Brown on Valentine's Day 1884 in Watson, Atchison County, MO. I have a great deal of information on Phebe and her descendants, a bit on her siblings, and nothing more than noted here about her parents, James Harvey Watts and Martha Gill. Any information on these folks would be greatly appreciated. Hi all, I'm searching for Bedie WATTS who married William BARNES (on marriage records in Robeson Co., NC) on January 16, 1841. Their death dates were posted in my gg-grandmother's bible: Bedie died July 1, 1892 and William died March 8, 1897. I suspect, but don't know for sure, that Bedie or Beadie was possibly a nickname for Obedience. I'd like to find her parents and any siblings. Debbie Smith Matthews, NC
It has been some time since I have sent this info to the Watts-L list. Does anyone have information on the parents of Nancy Watts, b. January 13, 1798 in Pennsylvania and died in Mishawaka, Clay Township, IN Feb. 28, 1878. She married Thomas Savidg of Pennsylvania. Part of Thomas Savidg's life history is in the St. Joseph County Indiana Atlas and reads as follows: Thomas Savidg was born in New Jersey; moved to Pennsylvania when about ten years of age; he married Nancy Watts, whose father was a soldier in the Revolutionary war, and died in the army. He was under General Brady. Her grandfather was killed and scalped by the Indians, and her uncle Fred Watts was shot through the mouth by them and was left for dead. They ran over him, expecting to return and scalp him, but he recovered and made his escape, and lived a number of years afterwards. I believe this is an account of the Fort Freeland battle. I am not sure who her father was since I have not been able to find any reference in death certificates, or other sources. She is my ggg grandmother. Jack Sossoman

My great grandfather was St.Clair Watts who's father drown in Lake St.Clair before St.Clair was born to an Indian mother who is listed as Mary on the 1850 census. Mary was remarried to Charles Shane and moved through Iowa to Missouri where I believe she died sometime before 1860 as she was not listed with the family on the 1860 Census. St.Clairs half sisters (Shane) may have married Samuel Lewis, John Warren, William Thurston or a man named Snow probably in Missouri or Kansas. St.Clair's father's name may have been Arnold Watts. He was supposed to have been an English sailor. Maybe of Welsh birth. Does any of this ring any bells of any kind. All of the above is a mishmash of family lore so may not be accurate. I am grasping at straws trying to find my Watts line. I would appreciate any info or help, no matter how insignificant, on any of the people listed. Thanks, Sherri
