James was > born 1847 and Laura born 1851. > > Does this sound familiar? > > Mary > Hi Mary, Doesn't look like the same John--my grandfather, John Watt was born 23 Nov 1869, in TN (that is based on two census records and family oral history). Have no more specific location. Family stories have it that John was orphaned early--about age ten. That his father's name was James is by inference only--John and his wife, Ruth Mary Barlow, named their first born son JAMES FRANCIS WATTS--I know that Francies was Ruth Mary's father's name; am assuming that the "James" came from John Watt's father. Interestingly, of the 10 children that John & Ruth Mary had, this boy was the only one with TWO given names--the other nine only had one given name! I have absolutely NO documentary records on John Watt until he married Ruth Mary Barlow in Bowie County, TX, in January of 1891. (He may have been in Bowie County earlier based on Poll Tax records, but cannot prove that the John Watt therein is the same.) My John died in January 1919; his wife had died the previous January--both apparently from the influenza that was epidemic during this period. This is the MOST elusive ancestor that I have--bar none. In ten years of searching I have been totally unable to hook him to his family of origin. The only other thing that I "know" about him is that he supposedly had a brother (or half-brother) who was known as "Uncle Bert" and that he was blind--and this is only based on family "stories" from two of John's daughter (unfortunately the last two, who were only 12 & 14 when John died in 1919!). So any and all help is appreciated. I keep hoping I will find this family some day. I carry the WATT name as my middle given name. Many thanks, Bob -- Robert W. Just checking to see if I am still on the list. Gail
I have a William Watts born in Stroud, Gloucestershire in 1819. He ended up as a Master Tailor in Hull. In between he went to St Johns, Newfoundland where he had a daughter Jane Watts, who was my 2xg grandmother. I don't suppose there is a link with yours? I do not know when Jane Watts was born apart from about 1847. Victor

Greeting All. I have just finished collating Post 1901 Census Petitions in preparation for sending them for presentation to the House of Commons. Signatures total 1185. While this number is a good start for the first petitions sent to the new government, we have a long way to go before we beat the number of 6308 sent to the the previous government and I challenge all Genealogical and Historical Societies to break all previous records for numbers of signatures sent in. If we wish to ever see another Census released in Canada we must keep up the pressure with our email, letters, and petitions. A couple of those sending in petitions deserve honourable mention for their outstanding efforts in collecting signatures. These include Adele J. Turner of North Vancouver, BC (204) and Mary Bridson of the Newfoundland Historical Society (166). We have received a number of petitions having a single signature, or two or three signatures. While these are appreciated, and add to the total, we would really like to see greater numbers on the petitions. We realize this might not be possible for some people who are housebound due to illness or disability and for those in this situation we gladly accept their one or two signature petitions. Can anyone help me find Thomas WATTS born 1836 or early 1837? He came from Gloucestershire. The 1881 census had his place of birth as Hackbury Upton. Is there such a place? Am thinking it could be HAWKSBURY UPTON. His father is John WATTS, a butcher. Many thanks, Nikki
Hi, Nikki, I wish I could help you, however maybe down the road. We are looking for the father and siblings of our Hugh Stuart Watt aka Watts b. around 1905 from around the same time period. We only have Greenoch, Scotland to go on and that his father's name was 'John' (family legend). I will keep you in mind if I find anything that may fit. Hope you'll do the same. Hello, Normally I wouldn't send items of this sort to the list, but a while back I found a nice little piece of old memoribilia on my Whitehall family on Ebay and was so excited to be able to aquire it. There is an old shaving mug up for auction on Ebay. The piece is beautifully decorated with a brown background and hand painted flowers and birds. This mug was owned by "Dr. A. J. Watts". His name is on the front in heavy gold. The item # is 559640051. The auction ends today so if you have Dr. Watts in your family...I couldn't find him in mine :(....better hurry. Melody

Would anyone have any information on Theodore James Watts born 1843 Dorset. His mother was Leondra Clarissa Watts born 1818 Dorset.and I have no record of his father. Theo was married to Annie Pinney but I have no information on her either. The family is listed on the 1881 census thus: Dwelling: 8 Spring Street, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales. Theodore J Watts Head Ironfounder widower 38 born Dorset Absula (Ursula) Alice Watts daughter, scholar 13 born Dorset Hardee Maree Watts daughter, scholar 12 born Dorset Leondra Clarissa Watts mother, widow 63 born Dorset Sabina Watts sister, dressmaker unmarried 22 born Dorset On Ursula's marriage certificate if registers Theo's address as 213 Melville Terrace, Edinburgh, Scotland in 1897, and also that Theo's wife Annie was deceased at the time of the marriage. As well as information on this family, I would like to find out about Theo's wife, where and when she was born, her parents and siblings as well as Theo's and Annie's wedding date. I would be interested in hearing from anyone with information on this family. Thank you. Jean Black.....Oz
Greetings All. My apologies for the previous message. It was not intended to go to the lists but only to Muriel. Sorry about that. Gordon
Hi Muriel. As per my message the other day I have decided it is not necessary to list each mail list I post my messages to each time. So long as you are aware of the ones I normally send to so you do not duplicate them. The ones I normally send to are: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Because I normally put the CCC list in the To: line and the rest in Bcc: you would normally see only the CCC address listed.
