I just talked to the Distribution center at Salt Lake. They are out of the 1880 Census index CD. They have 50,000 coming in August 1st. If you ordered it and have not received it you may want to call them. If you placed the order over the internet your card was not charged, and the order canceled once they ran out. If you receive this on more than one list from me sorry. Martha

Greetings All. For all who have been waiting to see updated information on the MP Scoreboard I would ask you to have patience for a few more days. While I have sent many updated files to Global Genealogy for loading, I have just learned that Rick Roberts has had a recent death in the family. He expects to return to work shortly and will get the files loaded at that time. My sincere condolences go out to Rick and his wife Sandra. Gordon A. Iam trying to find links to my great-grandfather, William Newcomen Watts, born, probably in the Caribbean ( Barbados?), but maybe India, circa 1830. Married Emma Christina Espeut in Jamaica in 1856. Served in the 1st West Indian Foot , then with the Royal Scots in India . Died 1885 at St. Leonard's on Sea. We suppose links to the Ponsonby family. Jean
Am looking for any information on following families: John Watts (PA) married Katherine Rogers (PA) 1st- Son: Andrew J. (b) 1858 - married Diantha Julia Bixley (PA) 2nd- Son: Lewis (born PA) married Alvia McMillin Note: 1st Son-& wife, Andrew J. Watts & Diantha Julia Bixley had a son, Frederick Watts, born in MO -married Maud Jennings from Ottumwa IA. There also was a David R. Watts (b 1852-PA) that married Nancy. They lived in Ottumwa also, however, I am not sure of the relationship -whether it is John Watts or Andrew J. Watts. They lived in Iowa most of the time. Some of it in Wapello county. My grandfather, Fred Watts died in prison in Iowa. I have no information on his family, other than what is given above. I would like to know about descendants and where in Penn. they came from. Is anyone out there researching this family? Would appreciate a response. Donna Broberg ([email protected])
Greetings All. In previous postings I have made mention of a Letter of Protest that we suggest be enclosed with your completed Census 2001 forms. It has been announced in my column in the newly released Global Gazette that this letter is downloadable from the Post 1901 Census Project website. In fact, the Letter of Protest is on the website, and is downloadable. There is no problem with the French language pages. However, on the English language pages, at this time there is a problem linking from the main page to the letter page. The new main page showing the link to the page with the Letter of Protest is not coming up, and an earlier main page is still there. I hope that this will be remedied shortly after the weekend. In the meantime, until this problem is remedied, the Letter of Protest page may be accessed directly at the following URL http://globalgenalogy.com/Census/Protest.htm Note the capitalized letters in the URL. These are necessary, or the link will not work. The downloadable letter, as with the Census petitions, is in Adobe Acrobat PDF format and requires the free downloadable Reader to access it. Some have reported problems opening up the petitions. This problem may be due to use of an earlier version of the Reader than the files were created with. The petitions and the Letter of Protest were developed with Version 4.0 of Adobe Acrobat. If you have problems opening the files, and are using an earlier version of the Reader, please download and try the latest version from http://www.adobe.com/ . Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Greetings All. It would appear from some of the feedback from my last posting on this subject there are some who have misunderstood the intent of that posting and the suggested letter of protest to be included with your Census forms. I hope to clarify any misunderstanding at this time. The Canada Census Committee does NOT advocate refusing to fill out and return the Census Forms. We do NOT advocate completing the forms with false or inaccurate information. To the contrary, we support filling out the forms with accurate information so that WHEN we are successful in regaining public access to Historic Census records our descendants will be able to retrieve that information about us. We DO advocate downloading and signing the Letter of Protest from the Post 1901 Census Project website, and including it with your completed Census forms. In addition, a review of the Census forms reveals that the final page of both the short form and long form contains an area for your written comments. We advise that you copy here the contents of the Letter of Protest to ensure that the message is heard and is on permanent record. Since my last posting I have been advised by Lois Sparling, a Calgary lawyer active in our campaign to regain public access to Historic Census, that her research found several reported decisions (i.e., the judges wrote decisions which were published) of people being convicted and fined for refusing to complete the census form. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Greetings All. Canada Census 2001 is rapidly approaching. Census Day is 15 May 2001. Over the past couple of years we have had some suggestions that we boycott the Census and refuse to fill out the forms as a protest regarding Statistics Canada's refusal to allow public access to Historic Census records. While in principal, I tend to sympathize with those who feel like doing this, I think that practically we could not get enough people to do it to make a difference. I believe that under the threat of fine and/or imprisonment, most people would end up filling out the forms. The Statistics Act provides for fines and/or imprisonment for refusal to complete the Census forms. I am not aware of anyone having been charged and fined and/or imprisoned for such refusal, although it is possible that it has happened. Rather than charge someone for refusal to fill out the forms, what I believe would happen is that they would first receive a telephone call to try to convince you to fill out the forms. If that failed you would likely receive a personal visit with the same goal. If that failed, I do not know if you would actually be charged, but that possibility exists. All that being said, a method by which we can voice our objection without fear of retaliation has been drawn up. A statement has been formulated which I would encourage all to sign and enclose with their completed Census forms. A downloadable form containing this statement will shortly be posted on the Post 1901 Census Project website. The files have been sent and it is simply a matter of Rick Roberts having the time to load them to the server. That should happen within a day or two. I include the wording of that statement here and encourage all to either make up their own letter or download the form from the Post 1901 Census Project website. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. Received a copy of Richard Watts will transcribed by Joanne W. McFadden. Have learned several crucial bits of information from the will. 1. Richard's brother William was still in England. The will states "William Watts has in possession." These were the land and houses in Brigham, County of Cumberland, Old England. 2. Richard had only two children, Richard Jr. and Susanna. 3. Richard's two children were less than 21 years old in December 1771. That means they were both born after 1750. He made his wife and his brother Robert guardians of these children and no others were named. 4. Richard had a 2nd brother. His name was Robert and he became co-guardian of Richard Sr's two children after his death. 5. Richard's wife name was Sarah. 6. Richard also named two sisters, Sonia? Fawcet and Frances Harrison. No indication of whether they were in this country or not. 7. The will was probated on 24th of February 1772, so Richard died between 2nd December 1771 and 24th of February 1772. 8. The will was witnessed by Will Taylor, John Taylor and Christopher Taylor. 9. This in Maryland, Land containing between three and four hundred acres called Plum Point. Greetings All. Since sending my last message regarding a correction to the URL for the Canada Census Campaign I have been made aware that for some ISPs removing the "www." from the URL causes a "Page not found" response. While it works for me, it does not work for all. Please include the "www." in links and bookmarks. The proper URL should be http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census en francais http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm A new total for the MP Scoreboard was posted today. Changes have been made to the Scoreboard to make access to it much faster. The single large file has been broken up into five smaller files for faster access. My apology for the faulty URL in my last message. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. I am looking for the parents and siblings of Abraham Watts, born c1805, possible in South Carolina. He married first Tabitha Phillips and second Lucelia Herring. He was in Tuscaloosa County, AL by 1825 where he married Lucelia. The Herrings, Weavers, and others connected to him by marriage came from Lexington Co., SC together so it is believed that Abraham came from there also, but that cannot be proved. Children were Daniel Henry Watts, born 1829 Tuscaloosa Co. and probably Phillip Morgan Watts, born 1840 Tuscaloosa, and Martha Watts, born 1839 Alabama. Any help will be appreciated. Greetings All. As a result of the recent change of servers on which the Post 1901 Census Project website is housed. The new server is UNIX based and URLs are now case-sensitive. I would ask anyone having links to us on their website to update the URL which is now http://globalgenealogy.com/Census en français http://globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm Please note the only change to the URL is the capitalizing of the C in Census (and the removal of www which is optional). Petitions have been coming in on a regular basis but they are still needed so keep them coming. A reminder that no changes should be made to the printed petitions. Any changes made may cause government scrutineers to void petitions. Do not photocopy petitions containing signatures. In the last batch sent in there was a petition of eight signatures rejected because it was determined to be a photocopy. Black ink should be avoided because it looks too much like a photocopy. Keep your letters and emails going to your Member of Parliament, Industry Minister Brian Tobin, Heritage Minister Sheila Copps, and Chief Statistician Dr. Ivan Fellegi. It is important that they be made aware that we have no intention of going away and that we wish to see the recommendations contained in the Report of the Expert Panel implemented. If we continue our efforts we will succeed. It will just take a little more time. Do not become discouraged because of the apparent lack of action. Do not be complacent, thinking the actions of others will be sufficient without your participation -- it will not be. Stand up and be counted. Every person's voice, every letter and email, and every signature on a petition, will help to achieve our goal of regaining public access to Historic Census Records. Without those records our search for our ancestors will be more difficult than it need be. Happy Hunting. Gordon A.
