Ok, I need some serious advice on what do with my most headache inducing line. :) I've got a name, Walter Lonzo Watts, an approximate date of birth, between 18 Nov 1907 and 31 Dec 1907, a death date, 12 Dec 1960, a really vague birth location, Oklahoma (that's it, no county, no city, etc.) A list of siblings (Ernest, Joesph, Anna Lee) evidence of the family's relocation (to Tennesee) several rumors (ranging from "Walter was half or whole Cherokee" to "Walter's father killed a man, and that's why the family broke up" and a lot of dead ends. I'm also waiting on copies of his obit and death certificate. Any advice on how I ought to go about finding out more information on Walter as well as his parents ? Thanks, Analee Watts

Hi Cyndi and Listers: Cyndi wrote: ......."Thomas Watts Sr b.1720 VA, m. 1744?"........ Any chance Thomas had a slightly older brother say born in the 1710-1715 time frame that might have come along the coast to New England? My 5g grandfather "appears out of nowhere" in 1737 at Falmouth, ME USA and marries Margaret McLellan. They move to Boston, MA and have 3 children (John, Samuel, and Elizabeth). My family were also Baptists. Usually religion doesn't seem to get mentioned in these posts, but maybe it can help make a connection. Searching for information on Thomas Watts, who may have lived Accomac VA ca 1723, believed to be father of Ester Watts, who m. 1763 to Isaac D. Clegg. Thomas Watts' wife believed to be Esther Dunton, b. 1701, d. 1775 place unknown. Theory exists that Ester Watts may be widow, not daughter, of Thomas Watts (since Ester was 40 when she married Isaac Clegg. Does anyone have information on this Thomas Watts or Dunton family, esp. that proves connection to the Ester Watts who married Isaac Clegg? Thanks, Jim Mann

Vol. 2, page 376. THOMAS WATTS was a native of Virginia, and was born, about 1786. He moved west, in 1810, settling first in Sumner county, Tenn., but afterwards locating in Todd county, Ky. Here he was led to Christ, and united with Mt. Zion church, in 1829. Although about 43 years of age, he began to exhort his neighbors to turn to the Lord, soon after his conversion. In 1830, he was ordained to the ministry. He seems to have possessed but small gifts; but he was pious and faithful, and the influence he exerted, if not extensive, was salutary. In 1842, he moved to Christian county, and united with Bethel church. He remained here only four years, when he moved to Robertson county, Tenn., and joined Spring Creek church. Here he resided till May 13, 1860, when Good took him to himself. Both the church and the Association to which he belonged passed resolutions, expressive of his piety, faithfulness and usefulness.

Chilesburg .Among the pioneer families who came to Fayette County a hundred years ago, when it was an unbroken wilderness, and Central Kentucky was the haunt of wild beasts, and the hunting ground of prowling savages, was the Watts family, who settled in what is now Athens Precinct, and where descendants still live. David Watts, the patriarch of the family, was of Virginia stock, and was among the first of those hardy pioneers to cross the Alleghenies, and in the beautiful land lying beyond their lofty peaks, hew out a home for themselves and families. He was born in the State of Virginia, in 1761, where he grew to manhood, and married Ruth Twyman, and emigrated to Kentucky about the year 1780.Upon his arrival, he settled in the present County of Fayette, upon land that has ever since remained in possession of his descendants, and upon which he died in 1835. His son, Garrett Watts, continued upon the farm his father settled, and, under his management, it was much improved and increased in acreage .He was born in 1796, and when grown was married to Martha Twyman; he died in 1873, at the age of seventy-seven years. A son, David T. Watts, who had charge of the farm during his life, was born April 11, 1831, and married to Tilitha Quisenberry, November 15, 1849.She was the daughter of Joel and Elizabeth (Haggard) Quisenberry, who were natives of Virginia, and settled in Clark County, where they died. David D. Watts died in 1854, leaving two sons, who, with their mother, still occupy the homestead, settled by the original David Watts a century ago. These sons (the subjects of this sketch); William D. and Garrett Watts, are the fourth generation who have occupied this farm, which now embraces about fourteen hundred acres of land .Its magnitude and highly improved condition, show conclusively that it has lost nothing in passing through so many hands, but is one of the most valuable stock farms in Fayette County. They make a specialty of fine stock, principally of cattle and sheep. Their Short-Horns are among the finest cattle in this region, and their South-downs and Cotswold sheep are well known throughout the country. William D. Watts was married February 10, 1880, to Miss Ella Chenault, daughter of Waller and Tilitha Chenault, natives of Madison County. They have one child, a daughter, Tilitha. These young men are upright and honorable citizens, highly respected in the community in which they live, and are exemplary members of the Baptist Church, as was their father, grandfather, and great-grandfather before them. To say more of them would be superfluous.

I am looking for any info on the WATTS family - but especially WATTS from Wales. Arthur was born circa 1870-1880 and married Edith WRIGHT. My great-grandmother Florence Irene Lillian WATTS was born 27 Aug 1900 in Markham Twp, Ontario Canada. Many Thanks. Cheryl
Looking to find out wether John Watts of Searcy Co AR had a daughter named Anna. Anna married James K. Marshall abt 1838 in Searcy Co AR. On both the 1850 and 1860 census James and Anna are living next door to John Watts. In the land records the land James Marshall owned is right next to John Watts. On a 1863 land record John Watts is a witness to a land sale for James Marshall. Anna and James had six children together: Hardy, William, Elizabeth, Alexander, Rebecca and Jane(Jennie). If anyone has something that can show if Anna was related to John Watts I would love to know. Thank-you. Kathy Garcia Killeen, TX
Watts Researchers: Below are sources of WATTS Cemetery Inscriptions in MO which were looked up in the reference noted. I hope this information is of assistance in your research. -------- (Database available at http://www.ancestry.com) Missouri Cemetery Inscription Sources: Print and Microfilm This database lists sources in which the researcher can find the gravestone inscriptions for the entire state of Missouri. Organized by county and cemetery name, it is an invaluable tool for finding headstone inscriptions for relatives who rest in Missouri when travel to the cemetery is not possible. With each cemetery is the compiler of the source material and the work in which the headstone inscription can be found. In some cases there is more than one source; often this includes the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. The number following each Family History Library entry is the microfilm number; copies of the microfilm reel can be obtained at nearly 1,600 branch libraries of the Family History Library. In a few cases there are other repositories listed where the inscription source can be found.
