Does anybody recognize this family? MARY DEWEESE, daughter of Joshua Deweese and Elizabeth New, was born in Kent Co., DE circa 1785 or a little later. She married ISRAEL WATTS in BUTLER CO., OH, 14 Nov 1809. It is believed she migrated to Butler Co., OH, from Monongalia VA(WV) about 1807, with her brothers, Samuel and James Deweese. >From Mikesells, Butler Co. OH Land Records, Vol. 1: 1803-1816 we find 2 deeds involving Israel Watts: 1813 - William REED & Rebecca, h/w to ISRAEL WATTS. (no S-T-R given); bound by land of Adam DICKEY. Signed: William REED, Rebeckah (X) REED. Witn: David MULFORD, William HARVEY. rec. 1814, Bk. D, pp 215,216 1813 - ISRAEL WATTS & MARY, h/w to John SHAFER. Middletown Lot 20. Signed ISRAEL WATTS - MARY (X) WATTS. Witn: Isaac ROBY, Job MULFORD, rec. 1813, Bk. D, pp 50, 51. >From the same source we find Israel witnessing 3 deeds for Richard Watts and Elce, his wife: 1813 - Richard WATTS & Elce h/w to Emma QUICK, wid. S22-T2-R4 - Signed Richard (X) WATTS, Elce (X) WATTS. Witn: Platt B. Dickson, ISRAEL WATTS. rec 1813, Bk. D, pg 36, 37, 38 1813 - Richard WATTS & Elce, h/w to David HEATON - S22-T2-R4. Bound by land of David HEATON, Emma QUICK. Signed Richard (X) WATTS, Elce WATTS. Witn: Platt B. DICKSON, ISRAEL WATTS. rec 1814, Bk. D, pp 208-109 It appears they all left Butler Co. OH. Where did they go? Would Richard Watts be Israel's father? Or brother? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kay Kay E. DeWeese, Piqua, OH Researching descendants of Rev. Hi all! I received the below letter from Freda Hays today. She also included about an inch worth of research. I'm going through it now. Chuck We had great luck in Muskingum County, OH, I am enclosing the back up on Beatty and the Administration Docket 1313 on Charles Watts. BEATTY Beatty Cemetery record lists burials in the cemetery. there were a lot of broken stones and a lot of stones that had been repaired. The Genealogical Soc. had cleaned the cemetery and it was in good shape. You can have this copy of Isaac's and Anna's stones. There was nothing on Rachel, According to the current cemetery record there was an earlier list by Glenn Longaberger in 1973 and Rachel was not on that list either. She may be there without a stone or with a broken and crumbled stone. I am beginning to think they had started west when she died and she died during the winter of l840-1841. The 1882 history of Muskingum Co., OH talks about the Wesley Chapel ME. Church and it being organized about 1808. In the front of the church book it has the date for Isaac and Anna Stacey Beatty being Received for Probation as March 1812, and being Received into full membership as 1812. This book has to do with Muskingum Co and I believe that Isaac and Anna were there by 1812. However, it appears the writing was done on the same day and by the same person and it appears to be done about 1847, and it appears the entries after 1847 were done also by the same person but not on the same day. I get this feeling that Isaac Beatty kept this church record, It appears that from 1812 to 1823 they migrated from house to house to have their meetings. In 1823 they built the first meeting building, but it was over on the Perry township line. By the way Isaac never bought or sold any land in Muskingum County according to the deed books. Since we have no record of land location we won't be able to know exactly where Isaac was living prior to 1832 except for the Juror fist saying he was in Washington Twp in 1826, In 1832 he settled on his son's land in Madison County which is bounded on the South side by Washington Twp. I found a William Beaty owned 100 acres in R I T 8 See 3 Lot 22, in Muskingum Co OH who paid .65 tax in l806. I have no idea where this is, This is in a Duplicate Tax List copied from a copy copied at OH St. Hist. Sec. Lib. Columbus OH Dist. # 4 by Miss Irma B. Gobel, State Chairman OH DAR. On the 1825 Tax List was William Beatty R15 T17 See 23 Lot NW Twp Newton Twp. WATTS: How did William Watts meet Rachel and where? This question really perplexed me until I found the Jurors List, Grand & Petit Muskingum Co., OH 1816-1899: 1818 William Beatty Madison Twp Petit Juror 1819 Charles Watts Falls Twp Petit Juror 1821 Wm Beatty Newton Twp Grand Juror 1824 Charles Watts Washington Twp Grand Juror 1826 Isaac Beatty Washington Twp Petit Juror 1827 Wm Watts . Newton Twp Grand Juror 1828 Solomon Watts Newton Twp Grand Juror 1828 Charles Watts Newton Twp Grand Juror, The following were appointed to be on call for the entire yen: 1836 Solomon Watts Newton Twp 1842 Wm H. Beatty Madison Twp 1844 Abraham Beatty Washington Twp 1851 Wm H. Beatty Washington Twp 1856 Wm H. Beatty Washington Twp 1858 George Watts Cass Twp 1894 James Watts Adams Twp As you can see Charles Watts arrived in Muskingum Co prior to 1819. Falls Twp is on the west side of the river, across from Washington TWP. First William Beatty was in Madison Twp. He has to be related to Isaac, but right now I have not checked to see if Opal or Ray have this William identified. (With Isaac naming his second son William Henry Beatty, I am not for sure he didn't have a brother named William, Opal and Ray seem to have the father of Isaac nailed down by that deed to be George.) by 1821 William Beatty has moved to Newton Township in the southwest part of the county-quite a distance from the Madison/Washington Twp lines, If Rachel was from the William Beatty family she would be in Newton Twp prior to 1822. Between 1819 and 1824 Charles Watts moves to Washington Twp on the east side of the river in the same area where Isaac Beatty is listed in l826. So this puts William Watts and Rachel in the right place at the right time. For some reason William Watts and Charles Watts move to Newton Twp. Again since they did not own land, it is impossible to know if they lived quite close to the town of Zanesville or farther down to the southwestern comer of the county. There is a receipt in the Charles Watts Probate Case where he owed his yearly rent on the school lands. He had so much personal property, he must have rented the same place there for the 10 + years he was there in Newton Twp. He had too much equipment to be moving it from one farm to another every year or so. I did not get to see the Tax Records for years other than 1806 and 1825. They were supposedly up in the storage area on the third floor of the courthouse. It was not a floor opened to the public. I could never catch the person that supposedly was there to help those doing genealogy. I believe Solomon is a brother to Charles Watts, I believe he also had brothers John, William who married Hannah, Richard who married Cassey, Rev. James, and also Harriett who married James Brooks. William Beatty died in Newton Twp. His Probate case was 1054. Richard Watts and John Beatty were administrators. William Beatty Jr. asked for $5 for boarding and keeping dec'd youngest child. John Beatty on I Apr 1830 asked for 99.75 for boarding & washing 46 weeks at $1. Later he asked for $50. for boarding and washing from I Apr to 13 Aug and waiting on him in his last sickness. Purchasers were Richard Watts, John G. McFarland, Katharine Beatty, Cary Beatty and James Beatty. John Beatty, Probate Case 978 did not have any children or property listed. Just a bill for the Dresden Coffin Co Nov 1830 and a Drs. bill. His wife was Lavey Baty. Robert Beatty, Probate Case 4 8 1 9 showed John Beatty appointed administrator 4 Oct 1828. He was late of Newton Twp. Purchasers were Wm Beatty Jr, and Wm Beatty Sr, James Beatty, and John Beatty. A list of payments were made to: Richard Watts $8.25 Wm Beatty Jr $8.25 Solomon Wennen $7.00 John G. McFarland $8.25 Joshua Beatty $8.25 James Beatty $8.25 John Willson Jr $4.75 & 62 1/2 cents Abraham Beatty died in the west. There was a freight bill for $14.95 to ship him back to Ohio. There was a person in Lane Station, Ogle Co., Illinois that requested $6. on 19 Dec 1854 to cover costs for attending him during his last sickness. This could use some research, However, I do not believe that our William Watts kept in touch with the Beattys after he left Ohio. William Henry Beatty also had land in Boone Co., Iowa when he died in 186 1. The only persons named Stacy in Muskingum Co, OH were Joseph Stacy and wife Anna Marie Stacy. They were foreign born. No connection to our Anna Stacey Beatty. In fact since Anna signed that deed in Hampshire Co., WV as Staecy Beatty, it makes me believe that Stacey is her middle name which is most likely the maiden name of her mother, rather than her maiden name. I checked Zanesville Courier OH from Nov 1, 1862 to Oct 22, 1863. There was nothing on Isaac Beatty. I check Zanesville Courier OH from Oct 23 1863 to Nov 4 1864, There was nothing on Anna Stacey Beatty. I checked City Times, Zanesville, OH Jan 3 1863 to Nov 7 1863. Nothing on Isaac Beatty. I checked Ohio Republic-an Jan I 1, 1823 to Jun 7 1845 nothing on Charles Watts. There are a lot more newspapers listed that are available at Columbus, OH but the Musk, county library didn't have them. There might be some Methodist records for the 1862 to 1864 time frame, but I don't know where to write to find them. In some old notes I found that Isaac Beatty was fisted in Will Book D 1843 to 1854 on Page 302. Well I looked and looked. There was no Will Book D in the microfiche they had available for the public to use. I could not find out where the original books were. No one seemed to know, There was a Mary Watts who died 13 Sep 18,44 at age 86 years. She was the wife of Thomas. She is buried in the Fairview Meth. Church cem. # 2 in Adams Twp east of Adamsville. This Mary was born 1758. What do you think of the possibility of Thomas being the father of Charles and his brothers? or at least the older brother of Charles and the other possible brothers. Just a name to be watching for in Maryland. There was a death record written in a book for Mary Beatty, the sister of William Watts, the widow of William Henry Beatty. She died 28 Jan 1886, she was a widow, her age was 82yr 28 da, she died in Madison Twp, she was born in Baltimore MD, she was a housekeeper, she died of dropsey and age, she is buried in Madison Twp. There was a death record written in a book for George Watts. This is believed to be George S. Watts (most records list him as George L. Watts); he died 5 Aug 1874 at age 62 yr I m in Muskingum Twp of Muskingum Co.,. His parents were not fisted. He died of debility. He was married. This is the one that was married to Rebecca Beatty, Rachel's sister. There were two Watts in the Civil War. George W. Watts b 1841 d 23 Aug 1925. He is bur at St. Paul Lutheran Cem., Perry Township, Sonora, OH. He was in Co E 97th Reg, OH Vol Infantry. Next of kin Mrs. Susan Watts, Sonora OH, He was a Private. He was captured at Franklin; held over 4 months; wounded in explosion of the "Sultana"; discharged 10 May 1865. Arthur H. Watts b 1834 d Jun 1928. Buried Woodlawn, Zanesville, OH. The roster indicates his dob is 184 1. He was in Co M I at Reg OH Vol Calvwy. He was 2nd Lt in the Army enlisted Aug 30 1861 discharged Dec 20, 1862. I can't think of anything that would be on these records that would help in our research of our William Watts. That's all I got. Happy Reading. Freda PS: Forgot to tell you about the visit to Lee County, VA, It was only one day. Found the person doing the cemetery books and he told me the book that has the Gibson Cemeteries in it was at the publishers, However, he had it on his computer and told me that Major George was in one of the five Gibson cemeteries, After much hunting (about 3hrs worth)we finally found the location. It is in the Gibson Station community about one to two miles west of the new Baptist Church and about a qtr of a mile north side of the new highway, It is up on a very steep hill. All in all there are about a dozen stones, none of them with any names left on them. The DAR has put a marker at the George Gibson grave. His original stone is rough with no lettering visible. But the person doing the cemetery books listed both in the book. So someone must know the names from family information rather than what is on the stone orrrrrrr - there is a plat book of the cemetery in existence somewhere and he got his info from there, Gibson Station is now a community with a gas station with a mart on the highway. They built a new Baptist Church and on the church it is called Gibson Station Baptist Church. The gas station did not have any reference to Gibson Station, Will enclose an updated Family Group Sheet and some pictures. Later.

Hello - I am looking for any information on James Watts and his wife, Mandy Storms. I'm afraid I don't have any dates except for their daughter, Cora Etta Watts. She was born in 1887 and died in 1974. I do, however, have reason to believe that they are from Douglas County, Missouri. Thanks! ...Stephanie (Still97@aol.com)

Do any of you know anyone with the name Jacobus in their Watts line? I would like very much to find someone with names of children of Jacobus Watts son of Thomas. This Jacobus was probably born about 1772. He lived Green and Morgan counties Georgia and died in Dekalb County Georgia 1825. I would settle for anyone named Jacobus related to the Watts family. Does anyone have Southampton connections to the WATTS name? Family legend has it that my g-grandfather, James WATTS b. Southampton about 1800, d Trowbridge, Wiltshire 1870s, was related to Dr. Isaac WATTS the hymnist. I have received email from which I quote the following apparently conflicting information... quote---------- All I know is that Dr. Isaac had a son Concemore who had a daughter named Jane Beaumont Watts (b.1813,d.17 Apr 1886) who married on April 2 1837 to James Boorman and their daughter Tryphena was one of my Great, great grandmothers! end quote--------- and from Watts' On-Line Issue #46 ---quote--------- ******************************************** Isaac Watts 1674-1748 (I have had several people over the years ask about Isaac Watts, the famous Watts who wrote hymns. Below is a article I found while searching the net. It is printed for your benefit by permission) Born: July 17, 1674, Southampton, England. Died: November 25, 1748. Isaac Watts wrote some 600 hymns in his lifetime. Buried: Bunhill Fields Cemetery, London, England. Hymnist John Bunyan is buried nearby. The Father of English Hymnody ------snip------ Isaac was born July 27, 1674 at Southampton, England, the eldest of nine children. -----snip------- Ugly Isaac Though he had a beautiful soul, apparently Isaac Watts was not much to look at. He was frail and often sickly. His head seemed too large for his five foot tall body; his small, piercing eyes and hooked nose did not enhance his appearance any. A lady one fell in love with Isaac by reading his poetry and a correspondence ensued. Whe she met his face to face, however, she was very disillusioned, though he fell in love with her. He asked her to marry him, but her reply was, "Mr. Watts, I only wish I could admire the casket (jewelry box) as much as I admire the jewel." Watts never married, though the two remained good friends for over 30 years. ----end of quote-------- Does anyone have access to a genealogy for Dr. Isaac WATTS the hymnist? I have searched the "net" and our local library without success.

I would like to ask a small favor from those posting to the group. When you are posting data regarding information found in a certain county, would you please post the state/or country also. I was never a great geographical person. Plus I am sure we have some members from USA, UK, and elsewhere who would appreciate having more than the county name. So can anyone tell me from the last email I received where Somerset County Council is located? Thanks susan steveson srbake09@aol.com
