    1. [WATTS-L] Watts in Kentucky
    2. William Watts
    3. Does anyone on the list have advice for me on tracing my Watts line through Kentucky? I have traced my line back to James Madison Watts, who was born in Kentucky in 1816, and married Nancy Eades, born in 1819, in Madison Co. in 1833. I know from the Madison County marriage records that there were a number of other Watts's in Madison Co. at the time(Barnett, George, Thomas, William, etc.), but I cannot see any way to determine the relationships among them. The FamilySearch service of the Mormon Church has some fairly obvious mistakes in this area and offers little help. Does anyone have any advice on how to untangle the Watts lines in early 19th-century Kentucky? Bill Watts

    1. Re: [WATTS-L] William Watts
    2. Neal Watts
    3. Toni, There are at least five MAJOR Watts lines in early MS. Most of them can be identified by region. Do you know in what county your William was born? You should be able to determine his father's name from the 1850 census. A very brief summary of these lines: Josiah Watts moved to Wayne County MS in 1810-1812. His children tended to be in Wayne, Clarke and Jones counties. Later descendants move north to Lauderdale, Newton and Neshoba counties. Jehu (John) Evans Watts moved to Copiah County, MS after 1820. Some of his children stayed in that area but many moved to LA. John Evans Watts was probably the brother of Josiah Watts. Descendants of John A. Watts lived in and around Covington County. His son Thomas moved to Texas. William Watts of Anson, NC moved to Pike County, MS. While some of his descendants stayed there. others moved to LA. Josiah Watts of Tishomingo County moved there from TN somewhat later. There are William Watts spread through nearly all these families. E.g., John A. Watts father was a William, so many descendants are named for him in that family. rriter@micron.net wrote: > searching for info on William Watts, born abt 1844,Ms? 1. Re: [WATTS-L] Re: Andrew Jackson Watts
    2. Hi, Elaine: As a suggestion, I would put the denomination for the churches that Rev Watts preached at into a general search and then look for a historical society. In my case, my Rev Watts was an American Baptist minister in ME, NH, and VT. My search led me to the Historical Society. The society led me to his devinity school, and between the two I was able to make a complete list of churches he had preached at, and the historical society had an obit with family names. The Historical Society I found was: http://www.abc-usa.org/abhs Maybe you can find your data using the above approach. Hope this helps. He was in Fulton Co, AR in the later 1800s (1880 about) and preached at a church in Moko, Fulton Co, AR. When his wife (??) died he left for Navarro Co, TX where he married Elizabeth Harding Holloway. They had one daughter, Elsie Mae Watts. If anyone recognizes this man's name, I would be deeply grateful to hear from you. This is all I know at this time. Elaine

    3. Does anybody have an Andrew Jackson WATTS b 6 Dec 1852 MS that was married to Mary Caroline Patty or Paddy (unsure of the spelling)? He died 6 Nov 1935 in Stamford TX Jones Co and was a widower at the time of his death. I have his death certificate and it shows his parents as unknown and the informant was Walter WATTS. This is not my Andrew Jackson WATTS so if anybody can claim him I will be glad to send the death certificate to you. I guess the only way I can decide who gets him is by the first response to WATTS-L since according to the certificate it is illegal to duplicate and that way everybody will know who has him. Johnny
