    1. [WATTS-L] Hugh Watt - NC & GA
    2. David and Wanda Elliott
    3. Hugh Watt was born in 1789 in Rockingham Co, NC, and died in 1845 in Muscogee Co., GA. He had at least 10 children from 2 (or maybe 3) marriages. I have a copy of his will naming 10 children. Thomas Jefferson (my ancestor was born about 1835 and Benjamin Franklin, the youngest child in about 1837. My great grandmother was Sarah G. Watt, born about 1862 and died somewhere around 1890 - according to oral history. I have not been successful in finding any information about her after her marriage in Columbus, GA, on Dec. 9, 1880 to Joseph Howard Hampton. Thomas Jefferson Watt's wife, Sarah Jane Kimbrough, was born Aug. 29, 1832. She was the daughter of William B. and Margaret Ann Nutt Kimbrough. My grandfather was born in 1885 in Athens, GA, but after Sarah's death was raised by her brother, Thomas Thaddeus Watt. My grandfather ran away at the age of 14, was able to find work and support himself and never went back This is the one line of our family on which I have been able to find very little. Would appreciate any help that could be given! Thanks. Wanda Morris Elliott

    2. David and Wanda Elliott
    3. I saw a reference to Benjamin Franklin Watt and wondered if this could be the son of Hugh Watt of Columbus, GA? My 2nd great grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Watt had a brother by that name. I have a copy of Hugh Watt's will (1845) naming his 10 children. I would be very interested in writing to anyone with information on this family. Wanda Morris Elliott

    3. I'm opening my mail sort of late - so someone has probably already been in touch with you. The descendants of Lydia Thornton and Thomas Watts are not those of Sarah and Thomas Watts, parents of Thomas Watts Jr. and Hannah Rust Boggess - different Thomases. "Some Descendants of Thomas Watts Jr. and Hannah Rust Boggess" traces both of those lines. Fred Rutledge did a monumental job on it. Try Pathoscafe@aol.com to get information on it.

    1. [WATTS-L] WATTS Buried: AWIN in Wilcox & Old Snow Hill Monroe Cos., AL
    2. RE: Edward J. NED Watts b. July 1814 d. October 1, 1900 MESSAGE posted earlier today. Edward J. "Ned" Watts is buried in an unmarked grave in the Old Snow Hill Cemetery; also buried there is one Pleasant WATTS, also in an unmarked grave; and ANDY WATTS married to Sallie. He was over 100 when he died. Ned's spouse, Elvirah Elizabeth Fleming who died 3/17/1904 may be buried in Century, Escambia Co., FL; which is where son Robert Pinckney WATTS moved; in 1900 both Ned and Elvirah were living with son Robert P. & family. Buried in the AWIN Cemetery in Wilcox County, AL is Ned's son and daughter-in-law: John W. Watts b 3/12/1856 and d. 1/15/1827 with spouse Mary Florence "Molly" Edwards b. 8/9/1856 and d. 6/2/1894 Haven't a clue as to where Edward W. "Ned #2" WATTS is buried; spouse, Irena Frazier Morris WATTS is buried in Bay Minette Cemetery, Baldwin Co., AL Many members of the Morris Family migrated from Monroe County to Choctaw County, AL in later years; seem to recall that Daniel James Morris is buried in Edwards Cemetery (Monroe Co. ?) and Irena Cotton MORRIS is buried in Choctaw County near Cullomburg. Also James EDWARDS who married (2) Margaret WATTS and Mary Florence "Molly" EDWARDS m. John W. WATTS are siblings. Haven't identified their parents as yet. At one time, the area in which these folks lived was called "JONES MILL," which is near or is today, Frisco City, AL. Appreciate any insight or clues regarding these folks.

    1. [WATTS-L] Edward J. WATTS b ~1814
    2. Greetings Listers: There are at least THREE different WATTS lines in Monroe County, AL. John A. WATTS from the John and Judith Rawls WATTS line; descendants of Thomas WATTS and Lydia THORNTON (son Thomas m. Hannah Rust Boggess) our line and perhaps another. Would appreciate any assistance in establishing ancestry of my gg-grandfather Edward J. WATTS b July 1814. who lived in Covington, Coffee (formerly Conecuh) and Monroe Counties, AL. As NED gives his place of birth as both TN and SC it is hard to say where he was born. I first find him in the 1840 Covington Co. Census, then Coffee Co in 1850 and in Monroe County, AL 1860 thru 1900. Edward J. NED Watts (1814-1900) married about 1837/38 Elvirah Elizabeth Fleming (1818-1904). Elvirah is the daughter of Laird B. Fleming (1792 GA- 1858 AL) and Jemima D. HODGES (1792-1884). Laird B. Fleming is the son of William Laird born in Ireland and Mary Laird. The Fleming and Laird families lived in GA. Laird B. Fleming is first found in Conecuh Co., AL on the 1818 Tax Roll. Laird B. Fleming and family are enumerated in the 1830 & 1840 Covington County, AL Census Records. Also found in these counties are the children and families of William HOLLEY, SR. b 1770 SC and his wife Charlotty b 1773 SC. His children seem to be: Hosea b 1799 married to Nancy b 1825 SC; Eli b 1790-1800; William, JR. b 1800-1810; Alfred b 1811 SC married Tempy b 1812 SC; John b 1812 married to Harriet, and Calvin b 1800-1810. In 1850 Covington County we have the WIDOW, Mary HOLLEY b 1803 SC, who appears to be daughter-in-law of William HOLLEY, SR. By 1850, Edward J. Watts and family are located in Coffee County along with other Fleming, Laird, and HOLLEY families.; #370 William HOLLEY (JR) married to Mary; #375 Edward J. WATTS m. Elvirah Fleming; #378 John HOLLEY b 1812 married to Harriet; #582 Hosea HOLLEY b 1799 SC married to Nancy; and lastly one James HOLLEY, age 23 from NC with siblings John, Solomon, Elam, Eveline, Amaziah M. and Zephemiah. Children of my Edward J. "NED" WATTS (1814-1900) and Elvirah Elizabeth Fleming (1818-1904) are: 1. Omelia (Amelia) J. WATTS b 1839 m. Walter Daniel Morris b 1838 (see below) 2. Margaret WATTS b. 1840 m. James "Jim" Edwards b 1834 GA who first married Sarah and had dau. Eliza 3. Thomas J. WATTS b 1842 m. Susan Blanton b 1842; dau of John H. BLANTON & Nancy CULPEPPER 4. Laird Watts b 1844; died by 1860 5. Bolivar (Boliva R.) b 1846; died by 1870 6. Edward W. "Ned #2" WATTS b June 1847 m. 10/13/1870 Irena "Frazier" Morris b 1847 (see below) i. John WATTS b. 1871 lived Frisco City and reportedly MS ii. Edward P. WATTS b Feb 1873 m. twice (1) Susan (2) ??? and remarried first spouse Susan by (1) he had Lynnis and by (2) he had Edward iii. Mary Inez WATTS m. J. William McCoy, moved to Texas iv. Duffie L. WATTS m. ???, moved to Texas v. Thomas Marshall WATTS b. 1/15/1878 and died 1/16/1957; m (1) Polly Armenia Kurby (my line) vi. Annie B. WATTS b October 1881 m. Mr. Smith vii. Frye G. WATTS b Dec 1882; died n.s.p. viii. Walter P. WATTS b Nov 13, 1884 - d. 5/4/1960; m. Jennie Lynn Baggett 7. Elizabeth Elvirah WATTS m. 5/1/1890 James Franklin Ledkins 8. John W. WATTS b 3/12/1856 - d 1/15/1927 m. 1881-82 Mary Florence "Molly" Edwards; sister to Jim above 9. Robert Pinckney WATTS b 10/12/1861 - d 10/10/1947 m. 12/14/1882 Anna B. BASS b 1/25/1866 d 1944 The Walter Daniel MORRIS and Irena Frazier MORRIS are siblings; both children of Daniel James MORRIS of Edgefield, SC and Irena COTTON of Edgefield, SC; Irena COTTON being the daughter of Arthur Kemp COTTON who connects with Lofton COTTON and his siblings, etc. of early Conecuh County, AL. The Cottons were some of the settlers of the Mississippi Territory. The MORRIS family lived in Allentown, Wilcox County, AL moving to Monroe County about 1850. NOTE: Alabama became a Territory in 1817; State in 1819. Thomas WATTS of 1818 Tax Roll Conecuh County, was an attorney who represented that County in the State Legislature. He was a relation (perhaps the brother-in-law) of John Hughes Watts, son of Thomas and Hannah Rust Boggess WATTS, father of Thomas Hill WATTS who was later Governor of Alabama during the War of Secession. As the brothers, Josiah and Daniel WATTS, shown below were born ~1798-99 and are not old enough to be father of my Edward J. "Ned" WATTS. Josiah WATTS of Lowndes County, GA may be father of my NED. Having some difficulty tracking him in the Census Records. 3. The Watts reunion below sounds like a genealogists' dream come true -- how could you beat 8 generations of family history combined with a 600 ft food table?!! Does anyone recognize any of these Watts? chp ************************************************ WATTS REUNION: Pageland Journal 22July 1925 [Chesterfield Co, SC] The Watts Reunion was held at Taylorsville, NC, Sunday. Messrs G H Watts, Drue Byrd, Jasper Watts, Lonnie Blakeney, and SW Watts were the Pageland representatives. They report this reunion as one of the best they ever attended. They report fine preaching and good speeches. A record of the Watts Family to the 8th generation was read and explained, the speaker declaring that there was no Monkey Blood in any of them, just a real Watts family. There wee representatives from South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Virginia, Texas, Arkansas, and probably some other states. All of the Watts name were asked to raise hands and it was estimated that twenty-five hundred (2500) hands went up. A bountiful dinner was spread and all did justice to it. The reunion was held at an old home place of the Watts Family, now in a pasture. A large flag flew from the house, and a table six hundred (600) feet long was loaded with good things to eat.

    3. I am looking for information on Michael Watts , the only information I have is he married Alvira Drummond 3 May 1849 but not sure where. I know that they had one daughter Rebecca Watts died 14 May 1932 in Gallia Co. Ohio. Rebecca was married to Lewis Benjamin Williams born 12 Jan 1864 in Gallia Co. Ohio died 13 August 1940 in Gallia County Ohio. I have photos of Rebecca and Lewis Benjamin (Ben) Williams. I do not know where Michael and Alvira were born or when they came to Gallia Co. Ohio. If anyone would have a Michael in there line I would like to hear from you. This side of my family has been very frustrating to find any information. Marjorie Wood woodchuck@eurekanet.com

    2. Looking to see if someone can tie the John Watts of Searcy Co AR 1840 to a Josiah Watts in Tishomingo Co MS. Both men were born in VA about the same time. Both were to have been in Hickman Co TN and both are to be the sons of a John Watts. Josiah was to have had brothers, John, Ivy and Robert. A Deborah Young is is his household in 1850 Tishomingo Co MS. This Deborah was 90 b. VA. She too was on the 1820 Hickman Co census living very close by the three Watts families listed on that census. Sarah Watts Holly, daughter of Josiah, comes to Van Buren Co AR with her husband William Holly and their children from Tishomingo Co MS and are there by 1860. Could she have come to be near other Watts relatives??? Kathy Killeen, TX
