    3. Hello, I'm researching my father's paternal grandparents, Henry Charles QUINN & Margaret Blanche MCINTOSH. This is the info I have thus far: from "Old Parochial Records" Petty, Inverness-shire, Scotland - 1841 April 30 Then contracted John MCINTOSH and Betty GOLLAN both at Gollanfield of this parrish who after three.... proclamation w. married. (.... = I could read that part of the entry on the microfilm) - 1842 Margaret daughter of John MACKINTOSH and Betty GOLLAN in Broomtown was born 1st and baptised 9th of February. The witnesses were John MCINTOSH and Robert ROSS both in Gollanfield. - 1843 John Gilbert Gollan son of John MCINTOSH and Betty GOLLAN in Gollanfield was born 13th and baptised 28th of November. Witnesses John GOLLAN, Esq. of Gollanfield and Wm. MCINTOSH there. - 1845 William son of John MCINTOSH and Betty GOLLAN at Broomtown was born 1st of May and baptised 5th of June. Witnesses John GOLLAN, Esq. of Gollanfield and Jas. FINLAYSON. - 1850 Thomas son of John MCINTOSH and Betty GOLLAN at Broomtown was born 19 and baptised 26 of July. Witnesses Wm. MCINTOSH and Jas. MCKENZIE both there. bereavment cards: - Died, in Ayr, on Friday, July 17th, 1896, at 4 o'clock, A.M., John MCINTOSH. Aged 82 years and 8 months. - Died, in Ayr, on Wednesday, February 13th., at 1:45 A.M., Elizabeth GOLLAN, Relict of the late John MCINTOSH, in her 86th. year. (According to my perpetual calendar, the year Elizabeth died was either 1906 or, I think, 1902. It was one of two, one definately being 1906, but I can't say which it really was because I don't know when she was born.) I used to think John & Elizabeth died in Ayr, Ayr-shire, Scotland, until I found this obituary the other day: The Little Falls Evening Times, Monday, August 9, 1920 Was a native of Scotland Mrs. Margaret QUINN passed away at home of daughter her last night. Mrs. Margaret Quinn died at midnight last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Del ROSE, at 11 1/2 Loomis Street. She had been ill for the past week, following a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. QUINN's maiden name was Margaret MCINTOSH. She was born in Inverness, Scotland, February 1, 1843. When 12 years of age she came to this county, the family settling in Canada. She was married to Harry QUINN, who died three years ago. Much of her life was spent near Richfield Springs, from which section she came to this city 20 years ago. Mrs. Quinn was a kind wife and a devoted mother, who was held in high esteem by her many friends for her splendid attributes of character. Surviving are one son, Henry, of this city; three daughters, Mrs. Frank GYER and Ms. William HOLLOW of Jordanville, and Mrs. Del ROSE of this city; two brothers, John MCINTOSH of Manitoba and Duncan of Prescott; and two sisters, Mrs. Kate WATTS of Toronto and Mrs. George HAMMOND, likewise of that city. Twenty-seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held at to p.m. tomorrow from the Rose home on Loomis street. Rev. H.C. Cooper officiating. The remains will be taken to Richfield Springs for burial. (Except for the capitalization of the surnames, I typed the obituary as it was written. As we can see from the OPR entry, Margaret was born in 1842, not 1843. Mrs. William HOLLOW should be Mrs. William HOUSE. to should be two. Harry QUINN's given name was Henry Charles QUINN. Little Falls is in Herkimer County, New York) As I mentioned, I thought John MCINTOSH & Elizabeth GOLLAN were buried in Scotland. The family oral history said Margaret MCINTOSH & Henry QUINN came to North America from Scotland because her parents didn't approve of their daughter being with an Irishman. (Henry was said to be a gardener/coachman on their estate.) Ergo, Margaret's parents would of course still be in Scotland. After reading Margaret's obituary, I looked in my atlas. Sure enough, there is an Ayr in Canada, in Ontario. In a way this is good. My research in Scotland was at a deadend. This should open up some new avenues. When I was looking at the Petty OPRs, I only found birth records for those mentioned above. Would I be correct in thinking Duncan, Kate, & Mrs. George Hammond (would anyone know her given name?) were born in Canada? When? In the Petty OPRs, I found birth records for children born to John GOLLAN & Margaret LOGAN. Is he the same John GOLLAN who was wittness to a couple of Elizabeth's chilren's births? If so, could he be father? Would anyone know when, where, & to whom John MCINTOSH and Elizabeth GOLLAN were born? Who their families were? How far back can their families be traced? Would anyone know when & where Margaret MCINTOSH met Henry Charles QUINN? When they married? Henry Charles QUINN filed his Declaration of Intention To Become A Citizen around 1862. He was granted U.S. citizenship around 1868. (I do have the exact dates, because I have copies of the documents. However, I don't have them with me as I type this. They are in my files at home. I'm finding YAHOO MAIL to be convenient because I can type this from my mail id while I'm visiting my sister. Anyway, the point is, I can provide exact dates & copies of the documents to whomever is interested.) Henry & Margaret do appear on the 1870 U.S. Census. They & their daughter Elizabeth lived in Richfield Springs. Henry & Margaret's children were: 1. Elizabeth Jane b. Jan. 10, 1870 d. Mar 29, 1949 m. William Frank GYER 2. Catherine Amelia b. Dec. 3, 1872 d. 1880? 3. Margaret Blanche b. Dec. 16, 1874 d. Dec. 20, 1950 m.
