My gr-gr-grandfather, George Watt, in the Scottish census of 1851 to 1871 gave his parish of birth as the Chapel of Garioch, Aberdeenshire. He was fairly relaxed about his age (he may not have known how old he was) but working back from those given, it is likely that he was born between 1806 and 1810. During this period there were two children recorded in the OPR for the Chapel of Garioch who were named George Watt. 12 Aug 1807. A natural son of James Watt of Keithhall and Ann Steel of Drumdurno 27 Aug 1808. James Watt in Newton had a son born of his wife Agnes Robertson It is possible that the latter is buried in plot 76, Logie Durno as the MI for that, as recorded by Sheila M Spiers, states in part "Erected by George Watt, Aberdeen, in memory of his father George Watt, Newton of Balquhain, died 27 March 1837 aged 28..." Is there anyone researching this area or who knows anything about either of these two? My George Watt came to NZ in 1875 and died the following year. His death certificate, for which his eldest son, my grandfather, was the informant, states that his parents were unknown. Any information or advice on where else to search, would be much appreciated Ted Watt Hamilton New Zealand
