Hi, Listers: I am a new subscriber to this list and thought I would join your Roll Call. My family name is WATTS (with the s), but in the St. George, Maine VRs [215], the Joseph Watt(s) family (1773) name is spelled Watt (no s) for the first few children until the 1806 birth of Joseph Jr. (son) is recorded. Then the name has the "s" again for the children. However, the family name before this, back to about 1720, and since includes the "s". Also, it's interesting that the penmanship changed when the Joseph Jr. was recorded. I guess the first recorder didn't know the family name and the second one did! [215] St. George Vital Records 1771-1890 filmed by LDS 22 July 1953 FHL US/CAN Film 12070 My earliest Watts, William, is suppose to have come to Maine in the 1710 - 1720 period with a Scotch-Irish group. He married a Margaret McLellan in Falmouth (now Portland), Maine in 1737. Margaret came to Maine in the same timeframe as a child with her family from Balleymoney, North Ireland. I am looking for parents and siblings and birth location of William. BTW, the WATTS-L has few responses, also. They would like to build up their activity.
