My grandmother is Eva June Watt Clauser. She was the daughter of Curtis Watt, son of Hugh Watt, as shown below in my generation report. As you can see, they lived in DeKalb County, Indiana, which is the county just north of Fort Wayne, Indiana. I believe they came from Pennsylvania through Stark County, Ohio. Both DeKalb County, IN, and Stark County, OH, have genealogy sites: http://www.rootsweb.com/~indekalb/index.html and http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohstark/index.htm. Both are very good sites. Hope we can make some kind of connection. She married IRA BRANDON December 23, 1886 in DeKalb County, IN, son of ISAAC BRANDON. Notes for IRA BRANDON: Ira Brandon, was a carpenter, who helped build several buildings in Auburn. One of them was the downtown Lutheran Church. In the late 1890's, he took his wife and four children, Larry, Ruth, Charles Merrit, and Hugh, to Brainard, Minnesota. There he worked with his brother-in-law, Ira Watt, building creameries. His son, Worden Brandon, was born while they were in Minnesota. During this time, the news of the Alaskan Gold Rush began to stir the interest of Ira, so that he took his son, Charles Merrit, on an exploratory trip to the Klondike region of Alaska. He was completely taken with the excitement of finding gold. He returned to Minnesota to leave his five children there, and took his wife along as cook to go back to the Klondike to pan for gold. They were gone approximately a year. they did not find enough gold to pay their expenses. They did find a large garnet which was later made into a necklace for their eldest son's wife, Mildred, who married Larry, as a wedding present. After returning from Alaska, the family moved back to Auburn to their cement block home which Ira's father, Isaac, had built for them. Ira and his wife, Millicent Ann Watt, spent their life moving between the Auburn area and Brainard, Minnesota. It is said that they moved back and forth seventeen to eighteen times, traveling by train. Their son, Hugh, and daughter, Ruth, both married, lived in Minnesota. Hugh and his wife, Ethel, did not have any children. Ruth married Joseph Mraz and had four children: Betty, Barbara, Joe, and Josephine. Hugh was an insurance salesman. Hello, I'm researching my father's paternal grandparents, Henry Charles QUINN & Margaret Blanche MCINTOSH. This is the info I have thus far: from "Old Parochial Records" Petty, Inverness-shire, Scotland - 1841 April 30 Then contracted John MCINTOSH and Betty GOLLAN both at Gollanfield of this parrish who after three.... proclamation w. married. (.... = I could read that part of the entry on the microfilm) - 1842 Margaret daughter of John MACKINTOSH and Betty GOLLAN in Broomtown was born 1st and baptised 9th of February. The witnesses were John MCINTOSH and Robert ROSS both in Gollanfield. - 1843 John Gilbert Gollan son of John MCINTOSH and Betty GOLLAN in Gollanfield was born 13th and baptised 28th of November. Witnesses John GOLLAN, Esq. of Gollanfield and Wm. MCINTOSH there. - 1845 William son of John MCINTOSH and Betty GOLLAN at Broomtown was born 1st of May and baptised 5th of June. Witnesses John GOLLAN, Esq. of Gollanfield and Jas. FINLAYSON. - 1850 Thomas son of John MCINTOSH and Betty GOLLAN at Broomtown was born 19 and baptised 26 of July. Witnesses Wm. MCINTOSH and Jas. MCKENZIE both there. bereavment cards: - Died, in Ayr, on Friday, July 17th, 1896, at 4 o'clock, A.M., John MCINTOSH. Aged 82 years and 8 months. - Died, in Ayr, on Wednesday, February 13th., at 1:45 A.M., Elizabeth GOLLAN, Relict of the late John MCINTOSH, in her 86th. year. (According to my perpetual calendar, the year Elizabeth died was either 1906 or, I think, 1902. It was one of two, one definately being 1906, but I can't say which it really was because I don't know when she was born.) I used to think John & Elizabeth died in Ayr, Ayr-shire, Scotland, until I found this obituary the other day: The Little Falls Evening Times, Monday, August 9, 1920 Was a native of Scotland Mrs. Margaret QUINN passed away at home of daughter her last night. Mrs. Margaret Quinn died at midnight last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Del ROSE, at 11 1/2 Loomis Street. She had been ill for the past week, following a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. QUINN's maiden name was Margaret MCINTOSH. She was born in Inverness, Scotland, February 1, 1843. When 12 years of age she came to this county, the family settling in Canada. She was married to Harry QUINN, who died three years ago. Much of her life was spent near Richfield Springs, from which section she came to this city 20 years ago. Mrs. Quinn was a kind wife and a devoted mother, who was held in high esteem by her many friends for her splendid attributes of character. Surviving are one son, Henry, of this city; three daughters, Mrs. Frank GYER and Ms. William HOLLOW of Jordanville, and Mrs. Del ROSE of this city; two brothers, John MCINTOSH of Manitoba and Duncan of Prescott; and two sisters, Mrs. Kate WATTS of Toronto and Mrs. George HAMMOND, likewise of that city. Twenty-seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held at to p.m. tomorrow from the Rose home on Loomis street. Rev. H.C. Cooper officiating. The remains will be taken to Richfield Springs for burial. (Except for the capitalization of the surnames, I typed the obituary as it was written. As we can see from the OPR entry, Margaret was born in 1842, not 1843. Mrs. William HOLLOW should be Mrs. William HOUSE. to should be two. Harry QUINN's given name was Henry Charles QUINN. Little Falls is in Herkimer County, New York) As I mentioned, I thought John MCINTOSH & Elizabeth GOLLAN were buried in Scotland. The family oral history said Margaret MCINTOSH & Henry QUINN came to North America from Scotland because her parents didn't approve of their daughter being with an Irishman. (Henry was said to be a gardener/coachman on their estate.) Ergo, Margaret's parents would of course still be in Scotland. After reading Margaret's obituary, I looked in my atlas. Sure enough, there is an Ayr in Canada, in Ontario. In a way this is good. My research in Scotland was at a deadend. This should open up some new avenues. When I was looking at the Petty OPRs, I only found birth records for those mentioned above. Would I be correct in thinking Duncan, Kate, & Mrs. George Hammond (would anyone know her given name?) were born in Canada? When? In the Petty OPRs, I found birth records for children born to John GOLLAN & Margaret LOGAN. Is he the same John GOLLAN who was wittness to a couple of Elizabeth's chilren's births? If so, could he be father? Would anyone know when, where, & to whom John MCINTOSH and Elizabeth GOLLAN were born? Who their families were? How far back can their families be traced? Would anyone know when & where Margaret MCINTOSH met Henry Charles QUINN? When they married? Henry Charles QUINN filed his Declaration of Intention To Become A Citizen around 1862. He was granted U.S. citizenship around 1868. (I do have the exact dates, because I have copies of the documents. However, I don't have them with me as I type this. They are in my files at home. I'm finding YAHOO MAIL to be convenient because I can type this from my mail id while I'm visiting my sister. Anyway, the point is, I can provide exact dates & copies of the documents to whomever is interested.) Henry & Margaret do appear on the 1870 U.S. Census. They & their daughter Elizabeth lived in Richfield Springs. Henry & Margaret's children were: 1. Elizabeth Jane b. Jan. 10, 1870 d. Mar 29, 1949 m. William Frank GYER 2. Catherine Amelia b. Dec. 3, 1872 d. 1880? 3. Margaret Blanche b. Dec. 16, 1874 d. Dec. 20, 1950 m. She was born in Richfield Springs on Dec. 6, 1874, daughter of Henry and Margaret McIntosh QUINN, and was married on Jan. 2, 1892 to William HOUSE in Little Falls. Her husband died in 1933. Sorry folks, seems I may have been too swift to hit the forward button, I am still not sure about the message regarding the Iowa Records. I have gotten a couple of messages saying that it is a hoax. I didn't find it on any of the hoax pages that I regularly check out so I sent it to one of them to check out. The message also mentions Illinois - WELL, I did get two marriage records from Illinois on Saturday, but they were from the Northern Illinois University and they were absolutely without ANY charge. Guess I will go to try to email the two addresses that we were supposed to complain to and see what happens. PS At least I did clean the garbage out of the message!!!! Perhaps something we should all pay attention to as it may just be the beginning of things to come. Subject: Fw: HELP KEEP IOWA RECORDS OPEN : Iowa wants to close its records like Illinois : Please forward this message on. In a message dated 1/25/00 3:35:01 PM, Pmauer writes: The State of Iowa is considering closing their records to the public. This has already been done in the State of Illinois where you have to rely on someone in the courthouse to look things up for you for a fee of $2.00 and if you want a copy, that is $8.00 more. Many of the people from the East went to Iowa and you may need to obtain some of their records, if not now, in the future. Even if you are not an Iowa resident, please be part of the numbers to be heard about how important it is to have these available. There was an Esther Watt born 29 Feb 1872 in Riccarton, Ayrshire, the daughter of James Watt and Ann Donnelly, but also one born 18 Jul 1873 in Largs, Ayrshire, the daughter of Francis Watt and Jane McLachlan. If Benjamin and Esther were using the Scottish naming system, you might expect some of these names to be used for their children. If you do have some of these names, and don't know about the Scottish naming system, let me know and I'll explain off-list. There are no marriages recorded in the IGI for either of the couples above, and I think they may have had an Irish connection. Esther is an uncommon name in Scotland at that time anyway, and Francis and Donnelly are both names more often found among Irish immigrants. Does anyone has any information on my husband's grandparents or great--grandparents? His grandfather was Benjamin Middleton (1871-1936)born in Darlaston, England, moved to Airdrie, Scotland and finally to Brantford, Ontario, Canada. His grandmother was Esther Watt (or Moorehouse?)(1872-1940), born in Ayrshire, Scotland. Benjamin's parents were Robert Middleton (1845-1909)and Phebe Gough (1846-1909). As far as we know, Robert and Phebe lived their whole lives in Stafford, England. We know about Benjamin and Esther's descendants here in Canada, but know very little about their lives or families in Scotland and England. We would appreciate any information anyone could supply. Thanks in advance! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Verdena, I can help you just a bit. On the IGI the marriage of William Watt and Jane Hutchinson is given as 20 Jan 1826 (not 1829) in Muirkirk, Ayrshire. But it also appears that the banns were also called in Dalziel, Lanarkshire, on 8th Jan 1826. So there seems no doubt that the year is 1826 - both these events have an OPR marriage register reference no, so they are not doubtful additions by LDS members. You should order up both the Dalziel and Muirkirk OPR films in case there is any more information about William and Jane - it might just give their fathers' names, occupations, or addresses. (Though I'm not terribly hopeful about this - the Dalziel register was not always very well kept.) So William may have been born in Dalziel, Lanarkshire, but I cannot find a record of this birth in the IGI. I cannot find a record of the marriage of John Watt and Janet Crawford either. Turning to Jane Hutchinson, I cannot find any births more likely than any others. My Watts (from East Kilbride and Glassford, Lanarkshire) do have a slight connection with Muirkirk - my father's geat-aunt Mary Watt (1817/8 - 1899) married a John Riddell from Muirkirk, who was a son of William Riddell and Alison Findlay, (though this couple had lived in Avondale, Lanarkshire for a time earlier in their marriage, their marriage is recorded in both Muirkirk and Old Cumnock, Ayrshire) I have put some of my family tree online, and there are quite a number of Watts from Lanarkshire - the index is at http://www.caeredin.freeserve.co.uk/familytree/index.html (but ignore references to second marriages if both spouses have the same name - it's a bug in the program that created the pages!) I am looking for information on my maternal line. John Watt was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland. He married Janet Crawford. William Watt was also born in Lanarkshire in 1804; He married Jane Hutchinson January 20, 1829 in Muirkirk, Ayrshire. Archibald Watt was born May 24, 1850 in Lanarkshire and married Elizabeth (Lizzie Greaser) in Dodge CO, Nebraska on December 24, 1873. He simply disappeared after obtaining a divorce. Hi, I wrote yesterday and wanted to answer some of the questions I'm getting. First of all, PLEASE send your introduction and any info about your county or name TO THE LIST. I'm just administering the list and have no information for anyone :> You can find the list name in the TO: space above. Second, "to adopt a list" means to accept responsibility for the list, sub and unsub people who are having trouble doing it themselves, and building the list by talking on it and helping researchers to discuss their names and counties. Hello All! I am new to this list and am trying a new approach to see if I can't find some more relatives! I am interested in finding anyone who may have a Lula Watt who married Daniel Elbert Beard. They lived in Wilcox Co, AL. I'd like to see if you have any further info for Lula as well as possibly Daniel. Daniel's father was Daniel G. Beard and his mother was Lucretia Dekle. Thanks in advance. Leah
