    1. [WATT] Roll Call: Maine WATT(S)
    2. Dick Watts
    3. Hi, Listers: I am a new subscriber to this list and thought I would join your Roll Call. My family name is WATTS (with the s), but in the St. George, Maine VRs [215], the Joseph Watt(s) family (1773) name is spelled Watt (no s) for the first few children until the 1806 birth of Joseph Jr. (son) is recorded. Then the name has the "s" again for the children. However, the family name before this, back to about 1720, and since includes the "s". Also, it's interesting that the penmanship changed when the Joseph Jr. was recorded. I guess the first recorder didn't know the family name and the second one did! [215] St. George Vital Records 1771-1890 filmed by LDS 22 July 1953 FHL US/CAN Film 12070 My earliest Watts, William, is suppose to have come to Maine in the 1710 - 1720 period with a Scotch-Irish group. He married a Margaret McLellan in Falmouth (now Portland), Maine in 1737. Margaret came to Maine in the same timeframe as a child with her family from Balleymoney, North Ireland. I am looking for parents and siblings and birth location of William. BTW, the WATTS-L has few responses, also. They would like to build up their activity. 3. Diane I hope you enjoy your stint as administrator of this list. I am not exactly new to the list but have simply changed my e mail address. Most of the WATT's I have read so far are US based and I am in the UK as are my ancestors. I only have a few WATT names as follows William born Stroud, Gloucestershire in 1819. He married Mary (surname not known) b 1822 in Ireland They had a daughter Jane Ann Watt (my great grandmother who married John Dixon in Hull) born in St.John, Canada in 1847. They also had a son William born in 1853 in Leeds. Well that is the sum total of my WATT line and I would like to expand on this. I do not know why Jane Ann was born in Canada or what William was doing there. William was a master tailor. Incidentally this is my first posting to this list as I never got round to doing anything on my old e mail address. Victor

    1. [WATT] Welcome
    2. Diane Jameson
    3. Welcome to the WATT mailing list! You are currently subscribed in "digest mode", which means that several postings made to WATT will be consolidated together and sent to you as a single large message. The directions on how to change to mail mode (where you receive every message as a separate e-mail) are given below. 1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to WATT-D-request@rootsweb.com that contains (in the body of the message) the command unsubscribe and no additional text. 2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance, if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to WATT-D-request@rootsweb.com. 3. How to change to mail mode (each posting is sent to you as a separate e-mail). There are two steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to WATT-D-request@rootsweb.com to discontinue digest mode. Second, send the command "subscribe" to WATT-L-request@rootsweb.com to start receiving individual messages. 4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again. 5. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to WATT-L@rootsweb.com. It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both. -- Diane Jameson Administrator for WATT and ALLAN Rootsweb lists

    3. Hello Watt List, Only two children just does not seem right for a family of the 1700's. I've located only Christian and William through a visit to the New Register House in Edinburgh and familysearch.org. Perhaps these names and places will look familiar to someone . I'm open to suggestions as to where to look now. David is listed as 49 and Alice is listed as 38 both list Pennsylvania as their birth place. Can anyone tie them or him to any families in PA. in or around 1821. Clarance their oldest daughter is listed as 18 years old and born in Michigan so would I presume they moved there around or before 1862 and were married that year or before also. Where..??? I Have not researched any marriage records for either state as yet. David is listed as a Hotel Proprietor in Constantine or that area, Any one know of any names of hotels operational at that time in that area. David A.
