I am looking for info on the ancestors/descendants of Henry WATSON, Master Mariner, born in London, England on June 24, 1782 to Henry WATSON and Hannah HODGSON. On December 25, 1810 he married Elizabeth COLLEDGE (parents not known) at Holy Trinity Chapel, South Shields, Durham. In 1812 Captain Henry was sworn in as a Burgess of Kingston-upon-Hull, Yorkshire. The majority of Captain Henry's 11 or so children were born in the Kingston-upon-Hull area where Captain Henry was allegedly the master of the ship "The True Love". Shortly before 1831, their oldest son, Samuel was adopted by Captain Henry Watson's brother, also named Samuel, who was a surgeon in Cottingham, YKS. In 1831 the remainder of the family arrived in Guelph, Canada where they had bought land to farm. Elizabeth died in 1832 and Captain Henry died on October 14, 1837. The known children of Captain Henry Watson were: a) Samuel, born approx. 1812. He also became a surgeon. Known children: Samuel, Jr. born approx. 1847 and George, born approx. 1849 (according to the 1851 census of Cottingham). I have been unable to find them in the 1861 census of Cottingham. b) Edwin, born 1819, died in Windor, ON on April 1, 1901. He was the owner of a Great Lakes vessel. He was allegedly left with friends of the family in the Orkney Islands to finish his educationwhen the rest of the family left for Canada and joined the family on the death of their father. Believed to have married. Children: ? c) James, born 1823, moved to Hamilton, ON approx. 1840, allegedly died in Australia. Children: ? d) Thomas, born 1825, married Mary RICHARDSON in Guelph, ON, moved to Manitoba. Known children: Henry, James, Robert, Alfred, and John Rirchardson (who remained in Guelph) e) Alfred , born approx. 1828, died Febr. 7, 1904. Married Mary DAY in Guelph, ON. Known children: Richard and Wesley Watson f) Hannah , born approx. 1815, married John HARLAND in 1832 in Guelph, ON. Children: ? g) Elizabeth, born approx. 1816, married Edward Alfred HARLAND in Guelph, ON. Children: ? h) Henry Watson, born approx. 1818, died Dec. 17, 19098. Married Cecilia RICHARDSON in Guelph, ON. Known children: Cecilia Avis Watson and adopted son John R. Watson i) Charles, born July 16, 1821; died Sept. 6, 1899. Married Mary BILBY Febr. 1847 in Guelph, ON. Known children: Edwin; William Frederick; Amy Mary aka. Mary Ann aka. Emma (DOW); John Reid; Hannah (HALL); Ernest College; Henry Samuel; Elizabeth Mary (DAY); Charles John (m. Emily WALKER); Alfred (m.
