The FHL at the LDS Church has upgraded its FREE genealogy program. You may want to download it. Be aware that it is about 8 megabytes of information. On a 28 baud modem, that will take a LONG time to download. A 56 baud modem won't be much of an improvement. The CD-ROM disk, if you have a CD- ROM drive, should be available within a month, if you want to wait. Click on Order Family History Resources on www.familysearch.org , then click on Software Downloads - Free, and select Personal Ancestral File 4.04 (there is no .05). This is a multiple language program and all languages are included within the program. They are English, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese. When you click on Personal Ancestral File 4.04 you will be taken to a page that describes the product. At the top of the page is a PROCEED button that will let you register for the product and then do the download. At the bottom of the page is a link called Changes. This link takes you to a page that describes all of the updates, enhancements and bugfixes for all versions of PAF 4. I don't use the program personally and have no idea how it works, or how well it works. You may want to experiment with it before you decide if it is the program for you, or not. Like any other genealogy program, it allows you to enter, store, sort, and search families, notes, and sources. This note is not intended to generate an online discussion of genealogy programs.
