Katherine: Thank you for setting up the WATSON group at FamilyTreeDNA. This is something I've wanted to do to further my own family research, so I've joined up. Although it's somewhat remote that you and I will connect our WATSON lines to a traceable generation (as my ine seems to have immigrated to the colonies from England and settled in Maryland or Virginia - and no known lines went to Georgia), I feel the more WATSON data we have in the DNA database the better. My line: John WATSON (b. ~1728 d. ~1810) married Margaret/Peggy and was residing in Albemarle Co., VA in the 1760's to 1770's. One son remained in Virginia, when it appears that most of the family migrated to Madison Co., KY by 1790. My line found its way to Texas by 1834. I have researched all the descendants of John and Margaret that I've been able to find- the known ones as well as good candidates- so I have several well developed adjacent lines. My line is as follows: John WATSON (b. ~1728, d. ~1810 in Madison Co., KY) Evan Thomas WATSON (b. 1759, d. 1834 in Old Miller Co., AR - now Bowie Co., TX) Jesse WATSON (b. 1788, d. 1834 in Old Miller Co., AR - now Bowie Co., TX ) John WATSON (b. 1828, d. 1909 in Grayson Co., TX) Dennis WATSON (b. 1863, d. 1933 in Bowie Co., TX) Weldon WATSON (b. 1901, d. 1970 in Hopkins Co., TX) Fred WATSON (living) Mark Todd WATSON (b. 1962) I'm not sure if old John WATSON came to the colonies with his parents, with other family, or by himself. His known and possible children: Known children: John "Hightop" WATSON (b. ~1750, d. 1833 in Albemarle VA) m. (Frances) Alice BIRD Mary WATSON (b. ~1755, d. bet. 1810-1820 in Madison Co., KY) m. John NICKERSON Joseph E. WATSON (b. 1757, d. ~1842 in Madison Co., KY) m. Nancy UNKNOWN Evan Thomas WATSON (b. 1759, d. 1834 in Texas) m. Lucy COLEMAN Jesse WATSON (b. ~1761, d. 1790 in Madison Co., KY) m. Mildred BALLARD Anne WATSON (b. ~1770, d. ?) m. William BRYANT Possible other children (unproven) William WATSON (b. ~1752, d. bet. 1810-1820 in Jefferson Co., KY) m. Nancy RYAN Judith WATSON (b. ~1754, d. ? maybe in Albemarle Co., VA) m. James GARDNER David WATSON (b. ~1760, d. ? maybe in Madison Co., KY) m. (1) Mary HARRIS, (2) Elizabeth MAUPIN Elizabeth WATSON (b. ?, d. ? maybe in Madison Co., KY) m. Samuel YATES/YEATS. I hope we can welcome many other participants to the WATSON group, and create a great new datapool for research. Mark, Thanks very much (again, this time publicly) for joining our new research project. As I wrote you earlier, I'd planned to set up a Google group for the project, where as well as private messages (more private that Rootsweb lists), we can trade rich-media files like GEDCOMs and pictures as well as text information. That's done now, and you've probably already received an invitation. Thanks also for your lineage. You may be sure I'll be adding that info to my new Watson family file. I use Reunion 8, a Mac genealogy application, but it exports nice clean GEDCOM 5.5 files that can be used by almost all other programs or explored in plain text by the truly determined (and masochistic). I'll post those in the Google group archives from time to time. Anyone else who wants to join the Google group, please let me know and tell me where you heard about it. It's a private group, so can only be joined by invitation. It will be interesting to see if there might be a connection, even though you don't think there is. Our Charles L. Watson's wife's family came from Maryland, so anything is possible. Georgia and Alabama were frequently secondary migratory destinations for families who first touched down further up the coast. This is exciting! I can hardly wait to see the test results!
