    3. Hi Ingrid, Several places to try ( # some of these email addresses are a couple of years old): Federation of Family History Societies www.ffhs.org.uk info@ffhs.org.uk Scottish Genealogy Society www.scotsgenealogy.com info@scotsgenealogy.com Scottish Association of Family History Societies Edinburgh scots@safhs.org.uk Fax 0131 667 0437 (add UK prefix) Lothians (Edinburgh) Family History Society tel: 0131-660-1933 Fax 0131 663 6634 (add UK prefix) anne_agnew@online.rednet.co.uk # International Society for British Genealogy & Family History (Salt Lake City) www.homestart.com/isbgfh/ Superintendent Registar (BMDs) Edinburgh: 2 India Building, Victoria Street, H1 2EX tel: 0131 220 0351 Registrar General of Scotland (certificates etc.) New Register House, Edinburgh EH1 3YT www.gro-scotland.gov.uk records@gro-scotland.gov.uk Midlothian Archives & Local Studies Centre www.earl.org.uk/partners/midlothian/local.html local.studies@midlothian.gov.uk and lots more. I picked these out of the 6th edition of 'The Family and Local History Handbook' published by The Genealogical Services Direstory, 33 Nursery Road, York YO26 6NN www.genealogical.co.uk A great resources handbook for anyone researching in the UK I think the above should get you started before your visit. Let me know if you want any local museums or libraries. If your ancestor is in any way 'remarkable', local studies groups can often help, especially if there are any newspaper reports, obituaries, etc.. I have had no dealing with any of the above but am sure they will point you in the right direction if they cannnot help directly.
