    2. John Blair
    3. Looking for any information on an Edward Walker, or the Walkers of this area. Thanks John We have a Margaret (Peggy) Walker born ca 1770's that lived with her husband in Rowan/Wilkes Co. NC before settling in Russell Co. VA in 1811. Family histories have passed 3 different stories down concerning her ancestry. Here are the 3 short possibilities. 1. One story passed down says she was the daughter of Edward Walker who came from Eastern VA. There is an Edward Walker on the Russell Co. tax lists, early 1800's, can't remember which year, but somewhere between 1800-1805 2. That Margaret Walker was "granddaughter" of John Walker, 1705-1778, Irish immigrant, who in 1773 settled on Sinking Creek, lower Castlewood, and, where, in 1778 four members of his family became Indian victims, two killed, two captured. 3. Another biography by a grandson of Margaret Walker states that she was Wilson! His wife (Jacob Blair's) was a native of Scotland and a daughter of General Wilson of Revolutionary celebrity."

    1. Re: [WATSON] Watson and Brick Walls!
    2. Don Watson
    3. I've been looking for the father of John Decatur Watson for 40 years, apparently in all the wrong places. I found information recently that he was from Illinois rather than Virginia --probably left VA to IL, then Independence Co AR. I've found a Robert Watson with a child of the right age to be John Decatur (at age 9) in the 1830 census for Franklin County, IL. Robert's wife was between 20 and 30, and they had three daughters: Two under 5 years of age, and 1 between 5 and 10. On down the road "a piece" there was one Thomas H. Watson, between 20 and 30 years of age, with one male between 15 and 20, and another between 10 and 15. No wife, no females listed at all. I got the impression that these were three brothers, probably related to Robert, since they weren't too far away from each other, at least not as they are listed in the 1830 census. Over in Pope County IL I found George Watson, between 50 & 60 years of age, his wife the same, with one child under age 5, 2 between 5 and 10, one between 10 and 15, and one between 15 and 20. Anyone have any Watson connections to Franklin County/Pope Co Illinois Watsons between 1820-1850? Anything in your files about Robert Watson or John Decatur Watson? :-) Don Watson

    3. I notice there has been a lot of activity on the Watson rootsweb site, and so I thought I would ask again if anyone knows anything about my "black sheep." He is my great grandfather, William Harvel Watson, born circa 1830 in, I think, Lincoln County, KY. Marrived Martha Ann Richardson January 4, 1855, in Lancaster, Garrard Co., KY. He was a blacksmith by trade. They had 8 children and I would be happy to give the list if anyone knows anything about this Watson. He appears in the KY census in 1870 and then Martha and her family appear in the Illinois census in 1880 in Farmers City, IL. I have her obituary and it doesn't mention her husband preceding her in death nor is he listed as a survivor. I think the scamp left her and ran off. There is a lore that Martha held up a bloody hankerchief and showed it to her sons and said, "Avenge your father." Now, that could be so much blarney. If anyone has any knowledge, I sure would be appreciative. Clara Elkins, Emporia, KS

    1. [WATSON] Researching the family of Tellira Charlotte Ann and Robert Welli ngton WATSON (nee EGGERS)
    2. Nick Batley
    3. Good morning to all, I am researching the family of my great great grand-aunt Tellira Charlotte Ann EGGERS (b c1834 Dublin, IRL), who arrived at Geelong, Victoria, Australia in 1853 with her sisters Matilda and Amelia. Tellira married Robert Wellington WATSON (b c1830 Aberdeen, FIF, SCT) at Geelong, Victoria, Australia in 1854. Tellira and Robert lived in Ballarat from c1855 to c1866, then they emigrated to New Zealand c1866, living in Picton, then moving to Wellington around 1870. Robert Wellington WATSON died at Wellington, New Zealand in 1890. Tellira Charlotte Ann WATSON died at Epsom, New Zealand in 1921. Tellira and Robert WATSON had the following children: 1) Robert Eggers WATSON (1856-?) - born Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, m Helen Evair GRAY (1859-1914) in 1881 in Wellington, New Zealand - childrens names: Isabella Eggers WATSON (m James Henry TRAILL) Claude Charles WATSON (m Phoebe Catherine BAXTER) Helen Evair WATSON Caroline Rose WATSON (female) WATSON 2) Paulina Emma Margaret WATSON (1858-1940) - born Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, m Alfred John COTTRELL (c1857-1917) in 1889 in Dunedin, New Zealand. Alfred J COTTRELL died in 1917 at Remuera, New Zealand, while Paulina E M COTTRELL died in 1940 at Te Aroha, New Zealand. They had one daughter: Eileen Watson COTTRELL (married Ralph Wilfrid STEVENS) 3) Claude Orrick WATSON (b & d 1861) - born and died Ballarat, Victoria, Australia 4) Tellira Charlotte WATSON (1862-1925) - born Ballarat West, Victoria, Australia, m Alfred Elliott DEAN (1864-1928) in 1893, in Wellington, New Zealand. Alfred E DEAN died in 1928 at Wellington, New Zealand, while Tellira C DEAN died in 1925 at Auckland, New Zealand. They had two female children, names unknown, but both daughters known to be alive in 1928. 5) Phoebe Eggers WATSON (1866-?) - can't find a birth in Australia or New Zealand, so I assume Phoebe was born on the voyage over to New Zealand. Phoebe appears never to have married, and was known to be living in the Auckland area in 1928 6) Caroline Cudmore WATSON (1868-?) - born in Picton, New Zealand, m Henry FORSYTH in 1900, place unknown (assumed to be Wellington, New Zealand). Last known to have been living in the Auckland area in 1925. Known to have had at least one son: Harry Stewart FORSYTH 7) Alfred Wellington WATSON (1870-?) - born in Picton, New Zealand, unknown if married. Last known to be living in Wellington, New Zealand in the 1890s. 8) John Bannatyne WATSON (b & d 1873) - born in Wairoa ? and died in Wellington, New Zealand. I would love to hear from anybody researching the family of Tellira and Robert WATSON, or who may know anybody who was descended from this family. Many thanks for your time and interest, and best wishes to everyone, Nick Batley Sydney, Australia ###################################################################### This e-mail message has been scanned and cleared by MailMarshal http://www.marshalsoftware.com ######################################################################

    2. Craig Pickup
    3. Hi I have just joined the list in the search of any one researching WATSON in the Darwen, Lancashire and South Kirkby, Yorkshire areas in the 1700's or earlier. My 5th great-grandfather was Jonathan WATSON who married Betty ENTWISTLE at Blackburn in 1761. He was one of four brothers who resided in the region of Over Darwen, Lancashire. An older resident, possibly Jonathan's grandfather also resided in Over Darwen. He was Thomas WATSON, gentleman, son of Edmund WATSON of Hague Hall, South Kirkby, Yorkshire. Thomas died in 1732 and was buried in Darwen. If any one is connected to these individuals or knows anything else about them I would be very please to hear from them. 1. Re: [WATSON] Nancy Watson -- Bright Watson
    2. Thanks so much for the information, Francis. It sounds like a good lead for me. Do you know of any other Watsons in Duplin Co.? Heres the information I have on Nancy Watson. Born: circa 1800-1810--source 1850 census. If the age given on that census is correct, she would have been born in 1803. This may be in conflict with your information on Bright Watson (they may not be related). Death: Probably 14, September, 1859. I went through the old Concord Baptist Church log book that listed its members and found a Nancy(Watson) Groves name and beside it was scrawled"dead--Sept. 14, 1859. That would explain why she did not appear on the 1860 census. Marriage Bond: Nancy Watson and William Kelly Groves (my line) October 23, 1835 in Duplin Co. Jas. Dickson was witness. She was age 47 and William Kelly Groves was age 35 at the 1850 census. I can find no evidence of children. The Concord Baptist Church minutes of 1843 list a Sara Maria Watson listed as baptized at the same time as Nancy Watson Groves. Do you know this Sara Maria Watson's parents? Again, thanks for the lead. Let me know if you find anything else, for I would appreciate it. Wanda Groves Kohlmann

Essie W. born 03-15-1907 died 11-12-1971 Cordelia 1881 1945 My wife and I copied these names and dates from the Greer headstones at the Laurel Springs Cemetery in Deep Gap, NC.
