I am looking for descendants and ancestors of Singleton Wilson Watson born in Ohio in 1809.
I'm stumped. I'm looking for the ancestors of Edward Watson (specifically, his father). Edward died in England in the 1790s at or near Deptford or Portsmouth. I believe his wife's name was Ann Boswell. Their children were John Watson (born abt. 1746), Elizabeth Watson, Mary Watson and Simon Watson (born abt. 1758). John Watson married Sarah Noakes around 1773 -- John died in 1799 and Sarah died in 1828 or 1858. They came to the United States (or possibly Canada). Their children were Anna Watson, Harriet Watson, Sarah Watson, John Watson, Dorcas Watson, Thomas Watson, Henry Watson and Joseph Watson, some of whom were born in England. I've got more information on the descendants, of course, but I am really perplexed at the identity of Edward Watson's parents and brothers and sisters. Anyone connnected to this line? Anyone out there know what it means when the tombstone has 3 circles on it then the letter F L T? Thanks, Wendy Genie Angel Asst. Coordinator OKBits rootweb.com/~okbits - COME SEE!
Wendy, The deceased was a member of the fraternal organization called the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, I.O.O.F. The female organization is the Rebekahs (this spelling!) The organization is very much like the Masons and Eastern Star. F L & T stands for Friendship, Love, and Truth. The other motto of the IOOF is Faith, Hope and Charity. I am researching Neill Watson who was born 09 May 1820 in North Carolina and died 13 Feb 1888 in Sampson County, NC. He married Harriet Jane Spell on 25 Feb 1851. Their family Bible lists the following people, who I haven't identified: William Watson, Sr (died 11 May 1854), William Watson, Jr. (died 04 Feb 1857), Elizabeth Watson (died 26 March 1866), and Jane Watson (died 23 March 1871). I suspect one of the William Watsons listed is the father of Neill Watson, but I have no proof or information on where these other Watsons lived (they aren't listed in any census for Sampson County that I have checked). Thank you Perry Neal Watson
