From: [email protected] Do you know if he is a descendant of Josiah Watson, 1748-1828, b County Cavan, Ireland, d Washington, DC, m Jane Taylor, 1752-1830? I have ancestors in this line who settled in KY, and I have been looking for cousin connections. Would be glad to share the little that I have on these Watson's. Suehanna Richmond Lucas
Hi all. I may have found my connection to my Great grandmothers WATSON family, thanks to more than few good people out there. If you are linked or know of any information on the family, I would be very greatful. The details areas follows: 1881 Census returns. Only this week I contacted for the first time, my grandfather's sister Annie HELSTERN nee MILLER's grandchildren, The HELSTERN's. They moved from Tyneside to Gimsby, South Humberside, some half century ago. That's 15 years before my birth. The first I knew of this branch of the family was last year. The first thing Martin HELSTERN stated, whom was very warm and friendly was, " The family is supposed to be related to John DILLINGER the infamous 1930's American gangster". It is oftern said " there's no smoke without fire ". I would truely be on cloud 9, because the bad boys, usually are very interesting to research and write about. Good guys can be equaly outstanding to write about, as I discovered with my great uncle Captain Thomas Johnson of the 7th Gurka Riffles, Indian Army. A true hero . - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ----------------------------------------- Anything on this family unit, good, bad, indifferent. Hi, I am looking for information about Josiah Ogden Watson or his nephew George Washington Watson. Both resided in Johnston County, NC. George's plantation was in Pineville. He (Along with William and Henry Watson) inherited most of Josiah's estates. Josiah did leave his Alabama and Mississippi properties to his brother John B. Watson (George's father). George was a 3rd lieutenant for Company C in the 50th NC Infantry for the Civil War. The estate he inherited from his uncle was called The Islands and is located around Smithville. Thank you, Kellie
We would like to share information on this family. Jean's grandmother was Amanda Jane Watson b. 1862 (Mills Co., & Shelby Co. Iowa) daughter of Constantine Smith Watson b. 1832 and Margaret McGee (Clermont Co., Ohio) he was the son of Jonathan Watson b. abt. 1796 and Phoebe Elizabeth Smith (Fleming Co., Kty and Clermont Co., Ohio) His parents were William (or Isaac) Watson b. abt 1755-59 and md. Elizabeth Jones. William is believed to have been born in England. Family tradition says that three brothers came to the United States together shortly after the Revolutionary War. The brothers were William (or Isaac), Jonathan, and Richard. Richard returned shortly to England. The maiden name of mother may be Vincent (family tradition again). William and Elizabeth's children: William, Isaac, George, Simpson, Abraham, Jonathan, Vincent, Jacob, Lottie, Polly, Sara, Nancy and Elizabeth. We would appreciate any information you might have. Thanks, Bill & Jean
This is in response to Craig Beeman's post of 7/23. I believe this family has been posted before but it has been some time so there may not be others on the list still interested in this family. The information I have is NOT VERIFIED by me, but comes from the files of Joe Hart, York Co. genealogist for many years: 1. David Watson b. 6/5/1706 d. 1/5/1785 m. Hannah UNK b. 1717 d. 8/13/1790 a. James Watson b. 1738 d. 12/5/1802 is buried at Beersheba Presbyterian Cemetery in York Co. SC m. Jane Houston b. ? d. 12/2/1808-Beersheba Cem. b.William Watson d. abt 1801 c. Their children are: 1a Aaron Watson m. Margaret Brown 2a.Elizabeth Watson m. Alexander Finley 3a Jane Watson m. Robert Barber 4a Samuel Watson d. 1836 5a David Watson b. 1764 d. 8/15/1822 m. Mary McCord -went to MO 6a John Watson b. 7/30/1766 d. 4/12/1791 m. Margaret Byers - went to MO 7a William Watson b. 1772 d.9/11/1837 m. Mary Venable (my line) 8a Anna Watson b. 5/26/1788 d. 4/25/1850 m. Robert Hemphill A note in a recent York C. Historical Society "Quarterly" from "Pike County History" on migrations to MO, indicated that John, James, and David Watson went to MO...with Edward Byers. It would appear that David and John are the two brothers above, but I cannot place James Watson. Perhaps the Edward Byers is related to Margaret Byers.... Craig, Where did you get the information that James Watson m. Jean Craig? Could he have married twice? It appears that the Houston name shows up in David m. Mary McCord's son, so it would be a connection to Jane Houston as show from the Hart files. I have some more on this family and would love to share. Janelle Dixon
"Hello Cousins! Am thinking that Jean CRAIG, wife of James WATSON of York Dist., SC, is another sibling in "Our CRAIG Family!" Might any one or more of you ever have come across any reference to this family in your research. I have only most recently learned of this couple while trying to follow up on descendants of "Our CRAIG Family" who were in Pike County, MO, prior to 1820. Kathy, Have you had any problems with your lists with roots web? I am on a webtv plus and I have been deleted from some lists and many of them will not accept posts. I am told that they are having problems with Webtv. I have been watching my lists to see familiar webtv family researchers, however, you are the first I have seen in two weeks...weird, huh? Thanks for reading this note from a total stranger. Respectfully Yours, Beverly Bishop researching the names: Henry, Kershner, Parrott, Hemminger, Myers, Reynard,

I found 1 Watson listed in the surname index of a rare old Cherokee genealogy book at http://members.aol.com/rarebk At the site, they have the surname index of this rare old Cherokee genealogy book called "Old Cherokee Families and Their Genealogy," with lots of English names, they have posted the 1835 Cherokee census, and a Cherokee genealogy tutorial that shows you how to conduct effective Cherokee genealogy research. Also, they have posted the full index of a book that shows people who sued in the 1800's for Cherokee citizenship. Once at the site, go to BOOKLISTS, then scroll down till you see the books. For the tutorial, it will be about halfway down the page, and then you can invoke it. The 1835 Cherokee census is posted within the tutorial. To my lists: Just some reminders: #1: Be kind to one another and be patient with answers. Our ancestors are dead and gone and they didn't know we would be researching their genealogy. I've been doing this for 30 years and I know it can be frustrating at times. #2: Make a backup copy of everything that's important to you on your computer. Do it TODAY. #3. If you need or want to unsubscribe, make sure it goes to the mode you're subscribed to meaning: #A: If you get this message all by itself, you're on the List mode: [email protected] or [email protected] #B: If you get this message with several others in one mailing, you're on the Digest mode: [email protected] or [email protected] #4: Vacation: I've already been, and nobody probably noticed--just the way I planned it. :) May take a day here or there also. #5: Remember that no commercial advertising is supposed to be on these lists. I am ListOwner for both and I WILL enforce this. Everyone have a great summer. As always your flames and comments are appreciated, but please respond privately, not to the list. Jane, I wondered if you know of a Samuel Bannister Watson in your line. The 1850 and 1860 Calloway Co., KY Census show his place of birth as SC. I don't know the date of his birth. He married Catherine Edmonston in Montgomery Co., TN in 1799. He died in Calloway County KY Ocotber 16, 1861. If you know of anyone researching that line, I would appreciate your letting me know. Samuel is my brick wall. Hi, Looking for mystery people (who isn't?!) James Watson sold land to William Hereford on Nov 6 1799 in Sumner Co, TN. I believe he lived in Davidson, TN at the time (Wm Hereford lived in Fredrick Co, VA). William married a woman named Margaret--a woman I believe to be James Watson's daughter--ca 1780 and died in Pontotoc Miss in 1852. None of the Herefords seem to have gone to Miss (Wm died in 1817) so I believe she may have gone with family. I'm looking for census, wills and marriage records for James and Margaret in Davidson and Sumner, TN, and for any Watsons and Margaret Hereford in Pontotoc. Can anyone help??? Can anyone identify this James? Did James have a daughter who'd have been at least 15 by 1780? Are there marriage records available in Davidson/Sumner? Are there Watsons living near Margaret Hereford in Pontotoc on 1850 census? Is there a will for Margaret and does she list any Watson kin in it? I'd be very grateful for any assistance--we're all stuck on Margaret! thanks, Cyndi in Baltimore
