Hi to all my lists: Periodically I like to touch base and remind everyone about the simple rules by which these lists live and other (hopefully) useful information. 1. We are all always polite to each other on the list. What you email privately is your concern. 2. These lists are NOT to be used for commercial purposes. Your access to the wonderful folks who subscribe is for the exchange of free genealogical information only, except NJ-Memories and that is for sharing memories about NJ. No soliciting for business is allowed. 3. Do not post virus warnings. Just today I posted one that I verified as a "real" threat. CONTACT ME if you hear of one and I will research it, and post if appropriate. I know "Monopoly" is not a virus, but these "critters" are all generically referred to as viruses. And not knowing what equipment/software folks use, I know some of you would probably never be affected directly, but nipping the discussion in the bud keeps traffic down and on target. We don't need multiple exchanges explaining what is and isn't; that's why I'm here so contact me directly. 4. Try to put surnames in all caps to make them stand out, but don't put everything in all caps--it's considered "shouting" and is rude. 5. When replying, be careful whether you reply individually or to the list. Some email systems are set to append the original message to the reply. If this involves a digest, then a copy of the digest gets incorporated and takes up lots of space, especiaaly if it's included in a subsequent digest. 6. If you want to reference an internet site, copy the WHOLE URL [Universal Resource Locator--tech speak for location] including the http://, this makes it an active link that can be selected with a mouse and you are taken directly there. As always, please respond to me privately, not to the list, and your comments and flames are always graciously appreciated. :) Chris WATSON WATSON and NJHudson Listowner NJ-Memories ListManager
To all my lists: The following is an alert about a REAL virus that is out there. This information is very current. The good news is that this is a non-destructive virus, but it would still be annoying and no one wants to be the person responsible for spreading it. DO NOT OPEN ANY EMAIL MESSAGES REFERENCING MONOPOLY. See the link: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/vbs.monopoly.html for more information. Hello WATSON researchers. I'm searching for records regarding my 3'rd gr grandmother Catherine WATSON. She is listed on the 1850 census record as being age 77 so she was born about 1773. I have been working on this search for about 15 years & have made contact with many cousins who also descend from her. We have found some records stating she was born in Md. Also it seems her mother was named Hester/Esther. I have data regarding a will record for John WATSON in June 1775 located in Queen Anne County, Md. This John had a wife named Hester. The children listed were: Hannah, Henrietta, Thomas, Leon, Mary, Margaret, Rachel & Sarah, NO CATHERINE listed. It might be that John had his will drawn up before Catherine was born which would explian why she is not included. I have a copy of the marriage record for Catherine where she married Thomas ADAMS 1794 in Bourbon County, Ky. The marr. record was signed by a Ralph ADAMS as being her guardian. Does anyone know what age a girl had to be to get married in Ky. without signed permission ? If the age was 21 then she may have been 20 years old at her marriage date & Ralph was still her guardian. The census record could be in error & she maybe was born after 1773. I would guess there may have been a WATSON to ADAMS connection since Ralph ADAMS was her guardian. I have searched for a marriage record for Ralph ADAMS but haven't found any marr. record for him. Thanks in advance for any help in my search, Ed Jones New Palestine, In.
