I read recently an email asking for information on a PENNYPACKER. I don't recall any details of the mail other than the name. If the person is still interested, I found a Samuel Whitaker PENNYPACKER in the "History of PA" written by Allen C. Thomas. He is listed on page 295 as Governor of the Commonwealth from 1903-19078 as a Republican under the Constitution of 1873. This is all the info mentioned. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com
I just received the death certificate on my ggg-grandfather, Asa C. WATSON, b. 2-11-1832 KY, d. 10-1-1913 Franklin Co. MS. His wife was Margaret Ann Trawick. Asa and Margaret were married in Copiah Co., MS. According to the death certificate, Asa's parents were William Watson, b. KY and Janie Crain. Does anybody have any information on William and Janie? I have the original marriage certificate of Rufus and Mary Josephine "Josie" Perry married 9/21/1907. He was the son of William Marion Watson. He died at age 28 from meningitis. If you have him in your line and would like a copy of this document, I would be happy to send it to you. It was given to me from a cousin since I had both Rufus and Josie in my line. When I was doing research on my Watsons from San Angelo Texas, I seen a couple of articles about him in the Standard Times. I was wondering if he was related to my Watsons. Do you know who his parents were or what relation he was with the Watsons there? HI: I am seeking contact with folks with knowledge of William Watson who married Hannah Dunham on 12-15-1797 in Berkeley County, VA and who may have moved onto to either Brown or Hamilton County, Ohio by 1830. Any help would be appreciaated. Thanks, Tom Berg
I found quite a few Watsons in the city directory there for the years 1908-1936. Also some cemetery records. If you had Watsons there and would like a lookup or copy of the page, I would be happy to help. Angela
Hi, I realize that's a broad subject heading, but I have lots of questions about WATSONS, LEONARDS, PHIL(L)IPS, and GARDNERS in Ontario and Pennsylvania. I have a lot of information about EVES through the generosity of others and web sites. I'm wondering if anyone is searching similar lines in Ontario and Pennsylvania? Does anyone know of on-line sites to search for Quakers, especially in Ontario? My specific quest is to find the parents of THOMAS PHILIPS LEONARD (1832-1918), who was born in England or Wales and came to Ontario around 1846, and who married ELIZABETH KITLEY WATSON (1832-1910). They lived in Grey County, Ontario, but I think both were from York County before they moved to Grey County. I think that the parents of Thomas Philips Leonard were SARAH PHILIPS (who I believe was from Pennsylvania) and JAMES LEONARD, who I would have thought was from Ontario but if his son was born in England or Wales, I'm not sure how he could have marreid Philips from Pennsylvania. Sarah Philips should be a daughter of EDITH EVES (1767-?) and ISAAC PHILIPS, but I'm not sure. If anyone can point me in the right direction on the web or is searching similar families, I'd be interested in corresponding. John Watson Sharp
Thanks to those of you who responded to my question about Lucy Watson. The questions are, alas, still unanswered :-( Please, if you have any information on Lucy Watson who married Barton Lovelace in MD and later married Abraham Cantrell, please let me know. You'll save a lot of hair-pulling, and may keep me from being the first in my line to go bald! :-) Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg Lovelace
I have not answered any of the queries because I could find no relationship to the little I know. However, the Watsons that I am researching ie: Houston Watson who married Lucy Dyer in l897 in Fannin County, GA which is a border town spilling over into both TN and NC. I do not know the siblings of Houston or his parents names. Try the web site of Fannin County if you think this might help. They have a nice gen page and list a lot of marriages. No need to order those records tho, I tried and they are just from a ledger book with the marriages listed made perhaps by a magistrate or JP? Hello, Watson-folk I am new to the list, and am trying to chase down evidence to either prove or refute an oral tradition in my branch of the Lovelace family of Rutherford Co., NC. That tradition states that Barton Lovelace of MD married Lucy Watson and had three sons. Before 1790, Barton supposedly died, and Lucy Watson Lovelace married Abraham Cantrell. Lucy and Abraham and the three Lovelace boys, still young, ended up in the area of Spartanburg Co., SC. The Lovelace boys ended up in Rutherford Co., NC, right across the state line from Spartanburg Co., in the early 1800s and began raising families, which continue there to this day. In support of this tradition, the 1776 census of Montgomery Co., MD shows the family of Samuel and Sary Watson, including their daughter Lucy age 15 only two houses away from the family of Benjamin and Sary Lovlis, including their son Barton, age 19. I also have the marriage returns of one Rev. William Threlkeld which states that he performed the marriage of Bartin Loveless and Lucy Watson on 11 Jun 1778. I am lacking any solid evidence of the death of Barton Lovelace, who is said to have drowned crossing the Potomac River. I also have no solid evidence of the remarriage of Lucy Watson Lovelace to Abraham Cantrell. Cantrell researchers claim that Abraham did marry a Watson woman, his second marriage, and that their first son was born c1790 in Orange Co., NC and named Watson Cantrell. Past the birth of Watson Cantrell, I have nothing at all on Lucy Watson Lovelace Cantrell. Abraham is in the 1790 Spartanburg Co., SC census, and in the early 1800s posted bond for the marriage of Asa Lovelace and Susannah Hardin in Rutherford Co., NC. He also sold land in Rutherford Co. to both Asa and Nathan Lovelace, who were two of the three Lovelace sons of Lucy Watson Lovelace. Abraham reportedly died in SC. No record of Lucy's death. Are any of you familiar with this Watson woman or with the names Cantrell or Lovelace/less? If so, I would dearly like to hear from you. We have been beathing this horse now for 10 years, and it sure would be nice to find SOMETHING! <grin> Thank you in advance for your time. Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg Lovelace Maintainter of the LOVELACE list on RootsWeb
