    1. Re: Searching for Catherine WATSON late 1700's

    3. I am a descendent of Thomas Watson, born around 1779 in Ireland. Thomas came to Centre County Pennsylvania with four children from a prior marriage, and then had as many as 23 children from a second marriage. I cannot find a Catherine. However, I found it interesting that there were Watsons in Bourbon County, KY since my wife is from Bourbon County, Kentucky and is a Gorey and Shea descendant. It seems there were many Irish in the community. I don't think there is a connection between the Bourbon County Watsons since they were there long before Thomas was born. Good look with finding Catherine. 3. Hello WATSON researchers, It's been awhile since my last posting for my 3'rd gr grandmother Catherine WATSON. Catherine married Thomas ADAMS 12/16/1794 in Bourbon County, Ky. Some other family members believe Catherine was born 1773 somewhere in Md. I have a copy of the marriage bond which was signed by a Ralph ADAMS as being her guardian. This leads me to believe Ralph was probably related to this WATSON line but I haven't been able to find a connection. Some other researchers on this family suggest Hester WATSON was maybe Catherine's father. Of course there might be a mistake in spelling and Hester may have been Esther who could have been her mother rather than her father.I have found a Hester WATSON in Kent County, Md. as an execturer for John WATSON dated 5/4/1764. An Edward WATSON was also an execturer. Does anyone have any data regarding any of these WATSONS ? I have been searching for the parents of Catherine for the past 15 years & there are now at least a dozen other descendants now working on this search. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Ed Jones New Palestine, In.

    3. I have one REBECCA WATSON, born to JAMES WATSON, but oddly enough she is something of a mystery to me. I am unsure when she was born and I have her father's dates of birth and death in a very uncertain state. Can you tell me where your Rebecca Watson was born and lived? Mine would have been born in or around Deptford, England. I have a note that she was living in Brockley (England, I believe) around 1928. That would probably make my Rebecca too young for your Rebecca, but perhaps she was a daughter. 3. Actually, yes, he could write a note "to whom it may concern." A wise slave would ask for something more permanent in case he lost the piece of paper or someone accused him of forgery. I've found many manumissions memorialized in the deed books for the county. > Well, my query is for any legal types out there who might tell me >how to find out what the papers were like that were given to freed slaves by >their masters before emancipation? 2. Hi Listers, Isn't that a great word? I just learned it, it means freeing of slaves. Well, my query is for any legal types out there who might tell me how to find out what the papers were like that were given to freed slaves by their masters before emancipation? Where would a master go to obtain these papers. My ancesters were in TN about 1861 and freed their 12 slaves. He couldn't just write a note "to whom it may concern", could he? Thanks for your help Marilou

    3. I have TWO Rebecca Watsons: the first was born 05 Mar 1853 in Galgate, Lancashire, England, died 20 Feb 1929 in Newberg, Yamhill, Oregon. She was the daughter of William and Anne (Webster) Watson. The second Rebecca, born in 1833, was an aunt of the first, and the sister of the above William Watson, born 1828. She and William were the children of George and Mary (?Smith) Watson of Lancashire, England. The first Rebecca married a John Smith (Duh!!!) I don't know what happened to the second Rebecca. Anyone else familiar with these Rebeccas?
