Do you by any chance have any Barnes marrying any of your Watsons? Do they join Norris any place? My husband's grandfather was named Joseph Watson Barnes. He didn't know for sure where he was born or who his parents were. He was brought to the Protestant Home in Natchez when he was very small. He was taken home and raised in Jonesville, La. by a family named Gilbert. When he was left at the orphanage a trunk with all his papers was left with him. The trunk was burned in one of the fires at the orphanage. He was born in 1884 or 1885 and was dead before I ever met my husband. For years I have thought I would crack this mystery with no success. So, as a long shot, I thought I'd ask about your Watsons. Thanks for your time., Marie Bailey P.S. I met a great many Pauls when I worked around Jonesville, La. (actually descendents) The Pauls apparently lived mostly below Jonesville around the Larto area. They were represented to me as some of the beginning French people in the area. Seen this posting on another surname list. This site was created by the U.S. Army Military History Institute and it is a searchable database of their Special Collections. Using this database you can see if a photograph exists of your Civil War ancestor. Just enter the surname you're searching and the results page will give any photos of any soldier with that surname, along with (if known) his regiment. Next, you can send an e-mail with the photo ID's that you're interested in. The Army will then send you (for free) a photocopy of the picture, along with instructions on ordering a duplicate photo. An 8x10 photo costs $10.00. No more then ten photos will be produced for any one customer per year. http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/PhotoDB.html God Bless, Angela Main Tree line Branches WATSON ROBINSON PERRY KIMBRO/UGH ANDREWS BINYON JACKSON MERRIMAN HISER DWYER SMILEY JOHNSON BOYD WEDDLE KINNINGHAM STEPHENS NALL

Does anyone on the list know the birthplace & parents of Adam Hyden Watson, born ca. 1764? Adam was married to Cathy Hughes. Thanks Glenda
The George Washington Watson that Martha Canopy sent info on is probably a relation to my George Washington Watson born in KY around 1815. My G.W. had a son named Ehud Watson b. 1849 and every Ehud Watson that I have seen belongs to this family. My G.W's father's name was Shemi Watson, married to Elizabeth Murphy. To find more info on this family check out Barbara Bonham's homepage on Familytreemaker: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/b/o/n/Barbara--F- Bonham/index.html You will also find more homepages with info at Familytreemaker if you input the name Ehud Watson which is a lot less common than George Watson. There are a lot of Ehuds and George Washingtons in this family. Good luck, Maureen Watson
Hello, Is anyone researching the WATSON surname in Logan County, Paris, Arkansas? thanks, Nancy Watson
As soon as I sent that message off about George Washington Watson, I knew I would have a dozen questions about him!!! So I dug my stuff out on old GW. Here is what I know. George Washington Watson born 6 April 1843 near Marion, Williamson Co., IL, the son of Ehud and Susan Weakly Watson. Married: 5 Sept 1869 in Williamson Co., IL to Sarah Jane Roberts (b. 3 July 1851 in Williamson Co., IL, d. 4 Mar 1922 in Yukon, OK Died: 3 Apr 1920 in Yukon, OK >From a letter written by John Norris, descendant of G.W. Watson. "In 1881 two McInturff families, the William Hinman Taylor family and the George Washington Watson family traveled by covered wagon from Marion, IL to Vining/Clifton KS. Vining and Clifton are adjacent to one another. The Watsons settled on a farm about three miles west of Vining in a district called Devil's Bend (for a bend in the Republican River). In about 1894, George and family moved to Escondido, CA. Mordecia Joshua Watson remained in KS (perhaps his heart wasn't in such a move since he married Nannie Catherine Taylor March 6, 1895). In 1896, George and family moved to Yukon, Canadian County, OK. He lived there until his death April 3, 1920. His wife, Sarah Jane Roberts,. Died March 7, 1922.\ I know little about George's children except for twins, John Ray and Jesse May Watson born April 13 1892 in Cloud County, KS (where Devils Bend is located). Jesse married Herbert Critchfield and resided on a farm near Geary, OK. John married Nancy Dolton in 1917. They farmed near Mustang OK but later moved to Culver City, CA where he resided until his death in 1976. He worked as a "grip" in the movie studios. I recall meeting Gertrude Belle Watson, Mordecia Joshua's sister once. She lived in or near Detroit and may have lived in Canada." Children of George Washington Watson and Sarah Jane Roberts 1. Gertrude Belle Watson b. 1870, married Frank Cox (lived in Farmington, MI in 1922) 2. Mordcia Joshua Watson b. 25 Jul 1872 in Marion, Williamson Co., IL m. 6 Mar 1895, Vining, Clay Co., KS to Nannie Catherine Taylor d. 13 Jan 1957 in Concordia, Cloud Co., KS 3. John Ray Watson b. 13 Apr 1892 in Clyde, Cloud Co., KS m. 9 Nov 1917 to Nancy Isabelle Dolton d. 27 Apr 1976 in Culver City, Los Angeles Co., CA 8. Jessie May Watson b. 13 Apr 1892 in Clyde, Cloud Co., KS m. Herbert M. Critchfield d. Unknown (lived in Geary OK in 1922) 9 & 10 two other children according to Sarah Jane's obituary died in infancy. Ehud Watson was born March 5 1794 in Pittsylvania, Co., VA the son of George Watson and Margaret Murphey. (George Watson was the son of Thomas Watson and Ales Justice of Pittsylvania Co., VA) Ehud married Susan Weakley abt 1821 in Tennessee (probably Robertson Co or Montgomery Co.) Children of Ehud and Susan Weakley Watson 1. William Watson b. 28 Nov 1822 in TN m. 1 Sept 1842 in Williamson Co., IL to Nancy Rice Cox d. 11 Aug 1898 in Williamson Co., IL 2. Matthew Watson 3. Mary Watson b. 15 May 1828 in Robertson Co., TN m. 1. Owen Weaver 2. Samuel J. Ireland d. 15 Nov 1914 4. Thomas J. Watson 5. Sarah Belle Watson married Mr. Odum 6. Nancy F. Watson 7. Susan T. Watson married Walter Brooks 8. Isaac W. Watson 9. Letty Jane Watson married Mr. Grant 10. George Washington Watson see above According to the obituary of Mary Watson Ireland (see child 3 of Ehud & Susan Watson), Mary died at the home of a nephew, George Watson near Hudgens, IL which is a few miles south of Marion, Williamson Co., IL. Whose son this George is, I don't know. He is not the son of George W. (child 10) for his son George lived in OK. He is not the son of William (child 1), for his son named George only lived 4 months. Well, I am sure I have added to the mix of Watsons. I am a descendant of William Watson (child 1 of Ehud & Susan Watson) and have quite a bit on that family. Good luck to all of you who still have George W. Watsons to locate. Martha Canopy
Hello Watsons, Its been a long time since I have read my mail and I just discovered part of a note from Jeff and Jeannie Goethe and would like to locate them please. Joseph WATSON (1813-1889) and Mary Ann SELLERS (1816-1882)had 11 children, probably in the Milesburg area of Centre County. I know that Mary Ann came from a Chester County Quaker family and was born in Lebanon County, PA. Would certainly like to find Joseph's parentage and siblings. TIA, Judy ([email protected])
