    3. Dear Lists! Here is the site I was looking for: http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/cwphome.html I still haven't figured out how to upload anything, so I've sent an inquiry to the Library of Congress. Here is the other site that many of you recommended: http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/PhotoDB.html I've also sent an E-Mail to them asking them how to add my photos to the database. Thanks to everyone who responded! :~) Don Genealogy: It's about time.

    3. Dear Lists! Someone recently sent me a URL I could go to, to look for online photographs of Civil War soldiers. I went there, looked at lots of photographs, and used the search function to search for ancestors, both Union and Confederate. Old fumble-fingers deleted the E-Mail I received. I'd sure love to find that web site again. They are inviting us to upload our civil war photos there. Can you help? :~) Don Watson Genealogy: It's about time.

This resolution was delivered to President George Washington, who readily agreed with its suggestion and put forth the following proclamation by his signature: A NATIONAL THANKSGIVING Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness": Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the Beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us. And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplication to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our national government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best. 1. Seeking info on Dora Watson...
    2. Edward A. Black, Sr.
    3. I am seeking info on my great-grandmother Dora [Watson] Vowel. I know she died 11 Oct 1949 (family bible), also that she was married first to a John Gilmore [my great-grandfather], then to a Mathew Vowel. She lived in Tennessee, I believe in Weakley County because my grandmother was born in Martin, Weakley Co, TN in Sept 1899. My mom in later years thought Dora's mother's name was Madera Watson, but not sure. A bible stories book was left for me as a child when she died which I still have, but my info on her is breif. She had 2 daughters [my grandmother, Liddie Mae (Gilmore) Park, and my great aunt Flora (Gilmore) Todd who lived in Morenci, AZ in 1973]. Dora had a son LeRoy Vowel with her 2nd husband Mathew J. Vowel. She had a step-son, J. Hugh Vowel, [Mathew's son by his 1st wife Nancy] who married my grandfather's sister, Lura Park. I learned some of the Vowel info from my cousin, Max Vowel who lives in Tulsa and is the youngest son of Lura & J. Hugh Vowel. What I am seeking is info on Dora such as when she was born, who her parents were & siblings were. I believe much of them were in Tennessee since I was told that is where she lived most of her life. Anything would be appreiated. Sincerely Edward A Black, Sr. --

    1. Watson - Armstrong County, PA
    2. Hello List, I am trying to locate parents of Matilda Watson, born about 1800. She married Robert Kilgore and I have their children born about 1825, so I'm thinking she might have been born about 1800. In 1825 they were living in Armstrong County and I can locate them in 1850 living there, however after that they disappear. Does anyone know where they could have moved? I would really like to pin point her parents. Census just states she was from Pennsylvania. There's Watson's in Armstrong County in the Armstrong County book, but I cannot connect her to any of them. Does anyone know? Thanks for your help. Connie

    3. Hi Debbie, As far as I know my Nortons were from somewhere around Little Rock, Arkansas. I was told they had some land there and sometime in the late 1800's they moved to Texas. Family tells me my g-grandmother, Mattie Eula Norton, had a sister (Mary), and at least 2 brothers (John and Charles). I'm not really sure what happened to them, though. Still looking. Mike

According to his death certificate, his father was Wm DAUGHTRY, and mother was Kathrin DAVIS. (I've hit a wall trying to find Paul's parents). Mattie was born Feb 3, 1875, in Arkansas, and died July 31, 1956 in Quanah, TX. She is buried in Chillicothe, TX. According to her death certificate, her father was John NORTON, and her mother's name was not known. 2. Hello Mike, Do you know if your Nortons were ever in Mississippi? My brick wall is my gg-grandfather, Thomas George SANDERS who married Josie WATSON. I have been told that the Sanders were somehow related to the NORTON/NORDANS. I've been unable to find out where Thomas & Josie got married, where he was born or died, etc. She came back to Franklin Co., MS after his death. Thanks, Debbie
