Happy Holidays to everyone. Does anyone out there have a WATSON-COOKSEY connection ? I'm looking for a Phillip (Philip) WATSON, originally from Virginia. There is a possibility the name "Phillip" is a middle name used in place of his first name. This theory based upon his son who was known only by his middle name; with the marriage certficate completed by the minister indicating that middle name as a first. The next generation did somewhat similar, using different middle initials. Philip WATSON - VA m. Sarah Ellen COOKSEY - VA William Henry WATSON b. 1860(1862) January 6 Missouri (discrepancy on death cert.) m. Mary Ann STEVER of Illinois (Jacob STEVER & Maria PALMER) d. 1921 May 6 Portland Multnomah Oregon Children of William Henry WATSON and Mary Ann STEVER : William Stever Watson aka William W. & William W.S. b 1983 May 1 Portland, Or d 1964 October 23 Portland,Or Arthur St Clair Watson b 1891 June 12 Oregon (?) d 1945 September 27 Information on Phillip and Sarah was obtained from the Death Certificate of Wiliam Henry WATSON. Phillip is shown as being born in Horsehead, VA. The mother, Sarah Ellen COOKSEY, is also shown as being born in Horsehead, Virginia. This information was provided by Phillip's grandson, William. "Hello Cousins!" Am engaged in an on-going effort to trace the descendants of "Our CRAIG Family!" for the benefit of future generations of family researchers. Have just recently begun in trying to trace the descendants of Samuel WATSON, b abt 1773, SC, who appears in the 1850 and 1860 Calloway Co., KY, censuses. Samuel was the son of Gilbert and Margaret (CRAIG) WATSON. Samuel appears in the 1810 and 1820 Caldwell Co., KY, censuses. Am hoping to be able to trace all Samuel WATSON's descendants down to about 1920 or so. I do have a start on this, but most definitely have a long way to go! Should you also be researching WATSON families of Caldwell and/ or Calloway Co., KY, or have come across any WATSON families in these areas in your search for family, please do make contact and let's see if we might possibly be researching some of the same families! Thank you for any and all help and assistance you might lend in our family's search for "Immigrant Ancestors and their Descendants. TTYL Craig "Always looking for Cousins!"
Angela, I am also researching Watson-Perry. My Grandmother was Lillie Mae Perry, married to Alonzo Preston Watson. I have the name of her parents but have gotten no farther. If this is in your line of either Perry's or Watsons, would you email me privately at [email protected] Thanks Jennie
Good evening everyone...searching for others who might be working on the same Watson line. Searching for John Watson b around 1750ish and died in 1784 in Va. He was m. to Elizabeth Poole daughter of William Poole Sr. thanks...kim
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER. WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, "SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS." THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL. I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE." ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD > NIGHT." This poem was written by a Marine stationed in Okinawa Japan. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable..... PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women, our Fire fighters, and Police officers for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed. ________________ Chaplain Breyer BBCFD God Bless, Angela My Family Tree Main Tree line Branches WATSON ROBINSON PERRY KIMBRO/UGH BINYON JACKSON MERRIMAN HISER DWYER SMILEY JOHNSON BOYD WEDDLE KINNINGHAM ANDREWS NALL STEPHENS ROBISON
Bette, I am researching Watsons from Deptford, Kent, England, from around 1832 and earlier. I am especially following John Watson and Joseph W atson, who moved to the United States from Deptford in the early 1800s, but I have a fair amount on their ancestors, as well as some on their descendants who remained in England. I don't have a Daniel Watson and I don't know of any connections to Sussex, however, if this is of any assistance. I check this list about once a year to see if anyone has record of a Robert WATSON from Ontario, Canada. He married Dorothy Bennett 24 Dec 1875 in Saginaw, Saginaw Co. Michigan, took his family to Battle Ground, Clark, Washington, where Robert died in 1933. His parents are James WATSON and possibly Elizabeth HUGHES (according to his death record.) I have no idea how to find him in Ontario. Anybody have a connection or suggestions? Anybody have any Watsons from Ontario? Thanks in advance. Charee Peck [email protected]
There is a James R. Watson of Albemarle Co. VA who married Catherine Watson 12/24/1803, bondsman Walter Watson; minister - Athanasius Thomas, 28 Dec. 1803. My James R. Watson is listed as being married to a Catherine on the abstract of his will. I have not received the will yet, but I was hoping someone might be researching this couple and know if it is connected to mine. Looking for any info on him. Born about 1866 in TN or AL moved to AR and married Gabrella Turpin in1909. She was his third wife. He had children by all three wives but was a BOOTLEGGER and so left very little documentation of his existence.
