I was recently wasting some time looking around Ebay. For those who don't know Ebay is an Internet auction site. I found many family Bibles for sale there to the highest bidder. This insults my sense of decency somehow so I am trying to reunite some of these Bibles with their families. The Watson Bible I found is item number 230195864. The auction ends on 1/10/00 @ 3:31 PM PST. The current price is $10.00 with zero bids but the reserve price (asking price) is not yet met. The seller does not indicate the minimum price. The first entry in the Bible is listed as 1882 Chicago but is indicated that the family came from Ohio/Indiana. The last entry in the Bible is made Aug. 11, 1982 by Esther A. Watson, the 8th daughter of Robert and Sarah Watson in Scottsbluff, NE. This Bible includes family pictures. I would be interested to hear from anyone who may end up with this Bible. The baptisms are recorded at St. George's, Hempstead. George shortened his surname around 1742. Nine or ten generations of Watts in Long Ilsand and beyond trace back to George (Watson) Watts. His possible forebears, guessing from land grants of the late 1600s in the same area where George and sons had ranches, Nassau County, were a William Watson . born 1644 Hempstead, John Watson with land grants Hempstead 1671-1678. George (Watson) Watts and Judith Lamberson Watts had ten children: Nicholas, William, John, George jr, Simeon, Jane, Mary, Thomas, Catherine, Margaret, all 1740-1757, Hempstead area.
