    1. Lucy Ann WATSON
    2. Mark T Watson
    3. Fellow WATSON researchers: Seeking death date and location of Lucy Ann WATSON, dau of Coleman WATSON, dau of Evan T. WATSON. Lucy married John WATSON in 1853 in Collin TX. John remarried in 1860, so I assume she died before then. I am seeking to find ANY information possible to help me identify John WATSON's parents. John W. WATSON, born 1828 in KY and likely lived in AL and MS on way to TX where his is found on 1850 Collin TX census, age 21. he died in 1909 in Grayson TX. He and second wife Julia WHITAKER had three known children: Dennis, Julia Ann and E. J. "Kate". I am not aware of any children born to first marriage with Lucy Ann WATSON. Any help appreciated. Mark Watson

    3. Joyce and Angela: I wonder if my John W. WATSON might connect to the WATSON families mentioned in your message (below). My John W. WATSON was born in 1828 KY; he married Lucy Ann WATSON in 1853 Collin Co., TX, she was the dau of Coleman WATSON, son of Evan T. WATSON. I have been unable to find the parents or any siblings for my John. John lived most of his life in Grayson TX and died in 1909, but is buried with his second wife, Julia WHITAKER, in Collin TX. Other WATSON's in the cemetery descend from Joel Brown WATSON of Cumberland KY; however the oldest of this family is one or two generations younger than my John WATSON - and they are not buried near each other in the cemetery. I have often felt that my John may have been a cousin of Lucy Ann WATSON, and therefore connected somewhere up the family line to the Evan Thomas WATSON family. In varying census records, John is listed as born in KY, AL and MS - very confusing! However, in a brief historical sketch which mentions him, he is stated as being from KY. Therefore, I would like to know if anyone knows of a branch from the Albermarle VA WATSON's might have migrated through KY, AL and/or MS on their way to TX. John W. WATSON first appears in the 1850 Collin TX census, age 21, living with 4 other young men - they are all listed as farmers. It appears he may have traveled to TX alone or with someone other than his parents, which makes the search for them very difficult. Does anyone have any info on my John, or when his first wife Lucy Ann WATSON died? 2. Does anyone know anything about Benjamin WATSON, born in Virginia 6-1-1808? The earliest information I can find for him is his marriage in Hopkins Co., KY to Rebecca Ann Moore 4-26-1830. They are my gggrandparents. They lived in McCracken Co. KY before 1844, at which time they moved to Texas, settling in Hunt County, then Collin County. I would like to find the names of his parents, siblings, County of birth in VA., etc. I will share information on his descendents. Charles Watson

    2. Angela, I cannot tell you exactly which Watson family yours hails from but I can eliminate one line for you. I think that with the names that you have from James R. will, the family must be related to my Watson family. My line has a James B. Watson who married Sally Cleveland in 1807 in Alb. Co. His brother was John Watson who married Sarah Martin in 1800. There is also a Fanny, Joab who married Elizabeth Ward in 1810, and William. These 5 were the children of John Watson, known as of "High Top." John and James remained in Albemarle Co. as did Fanny. I do not know what happened to William. I am pretty sure that Joab left the county but cannot say for certain. The father of John Watson of High Top was also known as John and he was married to a Margaret. There was an Evan T. Watson who married Lucy Coleman in Alb. and emigrated to Ky. and ended up in TX. but I do not know how he relates to this family. He named children James, John, Joab, etc. My John, son of John of High Top and married to Sarah Martin, named children Joab, James, Ivin, so while I cannot prove it, I have to feel that the family that you are looking at was probably from a son of the original John Watson that bought land in Rocky Creek area of Alb. in 1779 and was married to Margaret. I think that he is the father of John of High Top, the Joab who went to KY and TX. and your family line. I know this doesn't help you directly with your family, but I think I can give you at least a brother of your family and help you rule out one of the lines that was in Alb. Co. at the time. Your James R. was not the son of John of High Top. He could very well be his brother though. The Joab born in Alb. Co. in 1803 was the son of John Watson who was married to Sarah Martin. Hope I've given you a little help. Joyce

    3. Proven facts: James R. WATSON was b.abt 1770-1780 VA. He married Catherine unknown (source will of James). They had Joab 1805 in VA. Fielding was born 1808 in KY. Mary was born 1810-1815 KY. Elizabeth was b. 1812 KY. Isaac was born 1823 KY. They were next found on the 1830 census of Madison Co. IL. I have found only one James R. Watson who married a Catherine in VA: 12/24/1803 Jams Watson married Catherine Watson Albemarle Co. VA. I have found one James R. Watson born abt 1780 Albemarle Co. I know there is a family of John Watson's from Albemarle Co. who had children James and Joab. There was a Joab born there in 1803. I'm trying to find out if this is the correct family for my Watsons. ===== Okay.... so I don't descend from anyone......Now What ???? 3. I have found some Watsons in Madison Co. IL that came the same route. Do you have James R. WATSON b. 1770-1780? Thanks, Angela JOHN and PERMELIA FISHER WATSON were married around 1790-1795 and their children were born in FAIRFAX CO VA. They then moved to NELSON CO KY about 1805 and then to VIGO CO IN about 1820. I know SCARLET WATSON stayed in VIGO CO as that is the line I am researching. In 1850, DANIEL WATSON and family were in CLARKE CO IL and DELILA WATSON DOWNS stayed in KY. Am not sure about ELIZA WATSON WALKER. In 1850 also, CAIN WATSON and family was still in VIGO CO IN, but I think some of them moved west later. ===== Okay.... so I don't descend from anyone......Now What ???? 1. Watson in England
    2. Hi, I have just started to trace my family tree and would welcome any details. My maiden name is Watson, and my family is from Burnham on Crouch, Essex, England, UK. I am trying to trace any information about Lionel Watson, my great grandfather. He was a professional soldier in the Coldstream Guards and I believe died in France in the first world war. Prior to that he had been stationed in South Africa (Johannesburg, Pretoria heights). We believe that the family orginally comes from the border country between England and Scotland but have no precise information. I do not know whether Lionel had brothers or sisters, or the names of his parents. Thanks in advance for any help. Best regards Elizabeth Price

    3. Full Context of Ritchie County, West Virginia History Arthur Watson and his wife, Mrs. Jane Hawker Watson, with their family came from Monongalia county to the Harrisville vicinity in 1844, and settled near two miles south of town on the farm that is now owned by Colfax Moats. Here Mr. Watson died in the early sixties, (?) and not long after he was laid in the Harrisville cemetery, the family went to Cherry Point, Illinois, where the following named members still survive: CHAPTER XXXIX Prominent Harrisville Families James R., Thomas D., Amos M., Asby L., and Mrs. Mary (Samuel) Clouse. Owen Hawker, also, lives in Illinois, but William has joined the throng on the other side. CHAPTER XXXIX Prominent Harrisville Families Thomas D. Watson married Miss Sarah Shore, sister of Mrs. Mary Ann McDonald, of Hazelgreen, but alter her death, a few years since, he married Miss Sarah Miller of Illinois. CHAPTER XXXIX Prominent Harrisville Families John Watson, another son of Arthur, was the progenitor of the family that remained in this county. CHAPTER XXXIX Prominent Harrisville Families He was born in Monongalia county on February 24, 1824, and with his parents came to this county at the age of twenty years. CHAPTER XXXIX Prominent Harrisville Families On April 11, 1845, he was married to Miss Eveline Smith, who was born in Marion county, on March 7, 1825, and, at the old home south of Harrisville he resided until his death, on December 17, 1853. CHAPTER XXXIX Prominent Harrisville Families Two sons were born of this union, James W., and Joseph A. Watson, but the latter died on October 13, 1857, at the age of seven years, and the former, in his young manhood. CHAPTER XXXIX Prominent Harrisville Families In 1867, Mrs. Watson traded the homestead for the corner m Harrisville which is now marked by the National Bank building, and in April of that year, became the owner and manager of the hotel that was for long years known as the "Watson House." In 1901, she, having retired to private life some years before, transferred this property to the First National Bank. She died at Harrisville during the summer of 1909, rich in the love and esteem of a multitude of friends that she had made during her long public service, and in the Harrisville cemetery by the side of her husband and sons she was laid at rest. CHAPTER XXXIX Prominent Harrisville Families James Willy Watson, her one son, who grew to manhood, was born on April 8, 1848, and was married to Miss Frances Starr, daughter of John and Eleanor Ayres Starr, on November 8, 1868; and they were the parents of two sons, John, the eldest, died in early childhood; and Dr. J. W. Watson is the other. CHAPTER XXXIX Prominent Harrisville Families Mr. Watson met a tragic death by a run-a-way accident on the Ellenboro hill on September 20, 1870, and his widow is now the wife of Frank Foster, of near Harrisville. So Dr. James Willy Watson, of Harrisville, who was born on March 12, 1871, a few months after the death of his father, is the only living descendant of the Watson family in this county. He was graduated from the Dental department of the Maryland University in the class of 1892, and was married to Miss Christine Mather, daughter of the late W. T. Mather, on September 26, 1895, and they have no children

    1. Watson Marriages
    2. Yesterday I discovered an index "19th Century Tennessee Church Records," by Sistler. In vol. 2 I found a marriage for Calley Watson, 1885 in Monroe County Tennessee. It referred to Monroe County, Madisonville Notchey Creek Baptist Church 1853 to 1927. I am need information about that marriage. Hopefully it will have a CATE(S) as the groom. Do any of you have access to that information? I am still looking for documented evidence that my great grandfather U. Riley Jonathan Cates, b. 1865, McMinn County, TN, d. 1931, Grayson County, TX. is a CATE related to Gideon Cate of Tennessee, b. 1800, d. 1878. The Calley Watson I am interested in is the daughter of Andrew Jackson Watson. So far the information I have is that Calley and Riley were married in Tennessee about 1885 and soon after moved to Texas. Take care, David
