Does anyone have parents for Marjory Watson (b ca. 1617 d. 28 Aug 1660 Ipswich, MA) who married William Goodhue? Thanks, Janna
Hi List, I am a descendant of Andrew DALZIELL, born 1748 and his wife, Janet ROGERSON, born 1751. There children are Samuel, William and Colville. They all resided in Wanlockhead, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. I am also a descendant of the WATSON's and WEIR's of Wanlockhead, the LAIRD's of Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, Scotland and the GRAHAM's of Ayrshire, Scotland . Below are directions to my DALZIELL, GRAHAM, LAIRD, WATSON and WEIR Web Pages. If you have any questions or additional information on these families please get in touch with me. Howard Howard E. Hello All: I thought I would update everyone on my attempt to assemble the families of Evan's children. I preface the data below in that the children of Jesse WATSON, namely Jacob and (my) John WATSON are not yet proved, however, cumulative circumstantial evidence currently supports these assumptions. Despite calling County Clerks offices in Miller AR, Lafayette AR, Red River TX and Bowie TX, I cannot find the wills (if they still exist) for William and Jesse WATSON (of old Miller AR), sons of Evan Thomas WATSON. I have been told that 2 Evan WATSON wills exist in Red River TX dated 1836 and 1838 - and I have ordered those. Can anyone help me find these old Miller AR wills for Jesse and William? I only have the abstracts, and I don't even know the origin of these. I continue to try and prove that my ancestor John W. WATSON is the son of Jesse WATSON son of Evan Thomas WATSON. I also have many clues about Jesse's wife (1) Rebecca DENTON, but cannot as yet identify her as the (2) Rebecca DENTON dau of Jacob DENTON of VA>TN>AL. Since Jesse and wife Rebecca appear to be in Warren KY through 1830 I'm having trouble locating (2) Rebecca in KY, as information I have been sent suggests the Jacob DENTON family was in Jefferson TN - though I have no first hand knoweledge of this. Rebecca DENTON # 1, from information attained through the WATSON side: a) Jesse WATSON's wife was Rebecca DENTON. b) Rebecca WATSON is mentioned as heir of Evan Thomas WATSON's estate in Nov 1834; I assume that Jesse had either died by this time, or Rebecca represented him in a state of poor health. I have seen Jesse's death date as 15 Jun 1834, and as year 1835 when his will was probated. c) Jesse and Rebecca's first child was named Jacob WATSON; Rebecca DENTON #2 father was Jacob DENTON. d) An Isaac DENTON appears as witness to a land deed in Warren KY for Evan Thomas WATSON. Rebecca #2 had a brother named Isaac. Rebecca DENTON #2, from information attained through the DENTON side: a) Dau of Jacob DENTON, Rebecca was born in 1798, alledgedly in Jefferson TN. She had an older brother named Isaac, born 1795. b) Though I have not found the source, Internet family tree of Jacob DENTON states that Rebecca married a WATSON. c) Jacob DENTON removed to Perry Co., AL by 1830, and Rebecca is said to have lived in Arkansas (where Jesse WATSON died in 1834), then moved to Mississippi where she died. I found a Jacob DENTON on 1830 census, but not confident this is same. d) I believe I found Rebecca listed as Rebecca WATSON in 1840 Sumter AL census (next to Noxubee, Mississippi border, living next to three of her brothers, including Isaac. The ages for her children are sufficient to suggest the children listed in Jesse WATSON's 1835 will, with the exception of one daughter, who may have died or married by 1840. e) A Jacob D. WATSON is found in Noxubee MS 1850 and 1860 census. He is listed as born abt 1819 in KY. I believe he is likely Jacob, son of Jesse; two of Rebecca's brothers lived in Noxubee MS at the time. Jacob's wife appears in Oauchita LA in 1870 living with her sister, so I assume Jacob died prior to 1870. Perhaps his name was Jacob Denton WATSON? My John W. WATSON: In census records 1850-1870 listed place of birth as AL, KY and MS. In 1850, John is in Collin TX census as 21 yrs old, living 8 households from Collin McKINNEY, who was the administrator of Jesse WATSON's 1835 estate. I'm not sure when John would have come to TX from AL or MS, but assume it is after Rebecca's death which is likely between 1840-50. John married (his cousin, if he is son of Jesse) Lucy Ann WATSON, dau of Coleman WATSON 1853 in Grayson TX. He married second to Julia Ann WHITAKER who's family lived 4 households from John in 1850 Collin TX (near Grayson border). I want thank all of you who have been so helpful to me in this search! My cousin Debbie and I have been at a dead end on John for some time, and though my theory is yet proved, I feel I may finally be on the right track. Please let me know if you may have conflicting or corroborating information of the family tree below. Regards, Mark Watson Carmel, CA Descendants of Evan Thomas WATSON Generation No. 1 1. Hello Susan, I don't know anything about Clovis Watson but was wondering where in MS your Watsons located. We're trying to find info on William Watson married to Janie Crain. Their son, Asa C. Watson was in Copiah Co., MS in 1854. Supposedly, William was born in KY. Thanks for any clues, Debbie
I am looking at a picture right now of a Clovis Watson, a man, from Virginia and have no idea who he was. He was supposed to be a cousin of my grandfather. My great grandfather was from Culpeper Virginia and stayed in MS after the Civil War. I do not know of any sibling who married a Watson in VA. This picture was probably taken 1875-1900. The man has on overalls with a belt and a jacket. He has on a white shirt, but it has no collar. He is standing with a hand resting on a wicker chair. I would just love to hear from someone who knows of a Clovis Watson. Susan Lane

This quiry is going to SCABBEVI and WATSON lists. I recently received all legal papers for Hezekiah Watson who died intestate in 1828 in Abbeville SC. I have been told he is buried at Hodge cemetery. Does anyone know the name of Hezekiah's wife? There is a "Gilla Watson" listed many times in the sale of property. Was Gilla his wife? My g-grandmother was Gillie Lindsey. If Gilla was Hezekiah's wife, Gillie would be Gilla's g-granddaughter. There are also many entries for the name HODGES. Since Hezekiah is buried in Hodges cemetery, what is the Hodges/Watson connection? Does anyone know who the children of Hezekiah were? My 3rd g-grandmother, Susan G.A. Watson Blaine was his daughter. Hello Watson Researchers; As I don't have a given name for my GGGrandmother, only that her maiden name was Watson (married Goodale) I went to the Ancestry free data base for Charlestown, S. Carolina Directory, 1888-1889 and put in Watson and got back 105 hits. http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/4431.htm Good Luck , Marie *Researching Watson, Goodale, Riddle and Lewis*
Seeking info on Jacob WATSON who is listed in 1860 Noxubee MS census, perhaps listed as Jack WATSON in 1850 Noxubee MS census: 1850 Noxubee Co., MS Census #428 [Almost certainly Jacob, as living near same neighbors as 1860] Jack WATSON 32 m planter KY [should be "Jacob"] Elizabeth 28 f SC Josaphine 10 f MS [likely not dau; 1843 marriage?, is this Josiah? age would be 4 yrs too old, wrong sex] Ann 06 f MS [age 4 yrs too old] Martha 04 f MS [age 4 yrs too old] Elizabeth 28 f KY [sister Eliza? Jacob son of Jesse WATSON had a sister named Eliza, born in KY] El?i?? 08 f AL [not sure who this is, maybe Eli? age would be 4 yrs too old, wrong sex] 1860 Noxubee Co., MS Census, District 2 Brooksville #136 Jacob D. WATSON 41 m farmer KY E. 38 f SC [Elizabeth RAWLS m. 2/4/1843 MS] Josiah 16 m farmer AL Eli 14 m MS Ann 12 f AL Martha 10 f MS William J. 08 m MS S. A. 06 m MS Jacob 03 m MS I can't account for the 4 year difference in the children, except that Jacob seems to have traveled to Alabama at least twice based on birth location of children, and perhaps neighbors offered his family information. I believe this Jacob is likely the son of Jesse WATSON, son of Evan Thomas WATSON. Jesse died 1834 in Arkansas Territory, and his wife Rebecca DENTON Watson is said to have removed to MS where she died. Four of Rebecca DENTON's brothers are found in Noxubee MS between 1840 and 1860 (Isaac and Joseph Grove DENTON in 1840, Gideon, John and Joseph Grove DENTON in 1850, and Gideon DENTON in 1860). Rebecca's father's name was Jacob DENTON and he died 1840 in Perry AL. This Jacob D. WATSON is likely Jacob Denton WATSON. Jacob married Elizabeth RAWLS 2/4/1843 in Noxubee MS. Can any WATSON or DENTON researchers shed any light on this? Jacob had siblings Lucinda, Betsy, Eliza, Rebecca, John (whom I believe to my ancestor) and Jesse Jr. I'm looking for these children, they were all alive in 1834 Arkansas Territory according to Jesse's will. Regards to all, Mark Watson Carmel, CA

TO ALL LISTERS. Re Nicknames! Dear All, I would like to clear up the obvious misunderstanding over the English word 'NICKNAME' which is occuring on various lists that are being sent out from America etc., and discussed! To take examples: Betty for Elizabeth is not a 'NICKNAME' it is the 'DIMINUTIVE' a form of the name, ie a shortened version of, or derived from the name or to infer the small one of, as in cases of children, Bobbie or Bertie for Bob or Robert. A 'NICKNAME' is a name given in fun or contemptuously or derived from a persons job or occupation, surname etc. In the majority of cases it has nothing to do at all with a persons Christian or given name. Examples: Chalkie from the surname WHITE , Red, Ginge or Ginger from the colour of their hair, Nuttie or Blackie from the surname Coal, Cole or Coles, Avro from the surname Lancaster, Taff & Taffie from their Country Wales, Corgi also from Wales but from the Welsh dog, similar with Scottie & , Pete from the Army abbreviation of Private, Buster from the occupation of safebreaker, Limey from English sailors who were issued with Lime Juice, and of so on adinfinitum...... 'NICK' is thought to derive from 'NOTCH' to cut in or cut off, and so the misunderstanding and misuse. Yours sincerely, Mikey. [email protected]

The majority of them are from about 1889 to 1935. A few older, some more recent. The Miller County are indexed by both Groom and Bride. The Bowie County are indexed by Groom only. Currently, we are working to index these by Bride as well but it will take a while longer. They can be obtained for the low cost of $2.50, a SASE and a short lineage chart showing your relationship to the individuals. If you had relatives who married in either of these counties in this time frame, I will be happy to check for availability of their certificates. If we have them, you will be notified on where to send your information so that it will reach the proper person. Will also notify you if they are not available. We would love to get all of these Certificates placed in the hands of family members as they would be a great addition to your family records. Please feel free to forward this mail to any list to which you subscribe. Thanks, Doris Lindblad [email protected] --part1_2b.30d60e4.260167e0_boundary--
