Hi Ruth, don't worry, today we are ALL new here! Do you have any information on if they came together to New Orleans? Did you get the ships passenger list for the arrival or did that info come from another source? Have you gotten a death certificate for either James or Mary that tells you (hopefully) what their parents names were? If you are sure that James and Mary were born in Galway (and did not just emigrate from there) you could contact the Galway Heritage Centre for help, or possibly search some records yourself at your local Family History Center.
