Changing Email address for this mailing list ============================================== 1. Dungarvan Museum Reproduction Postcards Selling Well ============================================== The reproduction postcard that the society printed at the start of the summer is selling very well. We will shortly be printing the second card in the series. This card will probably be of Grattan Square circa 1900. ============================================== 2. Recent Donations and Events ============================================== The Tom Tobin exhibition of photos from 1950's and 60's Dungarvan and West Waterford has proved to be one of our most popular exhibitions yet. Willie Fraher the curator did a great job assembling the exhibition (along with the museum staff). This exhibition will run all Summer long at the museum so please feel free to drop in if you are in the area. Letters Of Henry Eeles - Over 50 letters from this gentlemen written in the 18th Century have recently been donated to the museum. An agent for the Duke Of Devonshire Eeles was a noted scientist and conducted experiments with electricity and also invented (and constructed) "The Flying Carriage" . This carriage was wind powered and would have operated like a modern day sand yacht. Letters From Capt. Sheehan - An extensive collection of correspondence from this Dungarvan seafarer were purchased at auction. They describe his voyages all around the world in the 19th century. We have finally installed a new set of spot lights in the temporary exhibition area at a cost of 1000 Euro approx. Thanks to Tony Fitzgerald for organising this and a special thanks to all those who sent donations, supported our book sales etc to help defray the costs. The lights in the main area should be erected before the end of the summer. ============================================== 3. New Web-site Articles ============================================== Both articles below can be found by clicking on exhibitions at www.dungarvanmuseum.org A Brief History of Mountain Castle Mountain Castle, or as it is presently know The Castle Country House, was constructed in the first half of the 16th Century by the McGrath family, one of the two Gaelic families that held lands in this county before the arrival of Cromwell. The Civil War (1641-1653), Contemporary Accounts Extracts from depositions taken during the Civil Wars by the English settlers. They are published in Fitzpatrick, Thomas, Waterford During The Civil War (1641-1653), Downey and Co. Publishers, (Waterford, 1912).
