I am particularly interested in making contact with anybody who might recognise the following family, particularly the RICHARD POWER who was baptised in Ballybricken Church, Waterford, on 6th November 1832. MY GREAT-GREAT-GRANDPARENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN Waterford Heritage Services traced the parents of my great-grandfather, Michael Power, as William Power and Mary Feeley (my great-great-grandparents) (otherwise Fiely, Feely, Fieldy or Fielding). William Power and Mary Feeley were married in Ballybricken Church, Waterford, on 11th August 1822. The witnesses were Edmund Henebry and Johanna Currin and the priest was Rev P Quirk. Mary Power (nee Feeley) is buried in the Power grave in Ballybricken with, among others, her sons Michael and David (full details of that grave are given elsewhere in this document). The children of William and Mary Power were: - (1) Michael Power [my great-grandfather] baptised in Ballybricken on 19th August 1823. The sponsors were John Power and Ellen Fitzgerald. The priest was Rev M Phelan. (2) Patrick Power baptised in Ballybricken on 26th February 1827. The sponsors were Edward Kennedy and Mary Power. The priest was Rev P Morrissey. There was only 1 Patrick Power in the British Census 1881 who had been born in Ireland in 1827. Could this be he? The Patrick Power in 1881 was a Catholic Priest, Rev Patrick Power, 30 West Road, Congelton, Cheshire, England. He was described as the Head of Household, age 54 years, born in Ireland. He lived with his housekeeper, Emily Galighan, single, age 30 years, also born in Ireland. (3) David Power later known as David Feeley Power baptised in Ballybricken on 29th July 1829. The sponsors were William Murry and Ellen Power. The priest was Rev Edmund Power. (4) Richard Power baptised in Ballybricken on 6th November 1832. The sponsors were Michael Daley and Anastatia Butler. The priest was Rev M Burke. There was only 1 Richard Power in the British Census 1881 who had been born in Ireland in 1832. Could this be he? The Richard Power in 1881 lived at 55A Chapman Street, Hulme, Lancashire, England. He was the Head of Household, age 49 years, born in Ireland. By trade, he was a Boot Closer. His wife, Julia Power, age 47 years was also born in Ireland. They had 3 children, all born in Manchester, England - (i) Edward P, age 19 years, a Boot Closer, (ii) Margaret M, age 16 years, scholar, and (iii) Josephine, age 12 years, scholar. They had three lodgers, Arthur Crowther, age 29, English, a Commercial Clerk, with his wife, Alice age 23, and their son George E age 9 months. (5) Johanna Power baptised in Ballybricken on 23rd July 1835. The sponsors were John Broder and Joan Moran and the priest was Rev M Burke. She was not in the British Census 1881. (6) Brigid Power baptised in Ballybricken on 13th September 1836. The sponsors were John Galavan and Mary Keeffe and the priest was Rev Edmund Larkin. (7) Brigid Power baptised in Ballybricken on 26th September 1843 (the Bridget of 13th September 1836 obviously died young and it was not unusual to give another child the same name in those circumstances). The sponsors were William Doyle and Mary Brien and the priest was Rev P Kent. She was not in the British Census 1881. Regards Dr Con Power
